I have tried a few images already and this is the best so far! LOL I think.
Reflashing is straightforward. Set up is V time consuming for a newbie like me.
The main reason I got the Alien 2 is because I need a triple tuner for Saorview in Ireland and the alternatives were a lot more expensive.
IMO Spark is ok if they just fixed the epg and added a graphical, cool-style interface.

try another ftp prog like filezilla..
If you have already gone down these avenues..

You can have both my girlfriend and visa card (cue twilight zone music) but you'll have to get rid of your Alien and sign up to ***, and visa may be in touch in the not-too-distant future...

I wish I knew what I was doing wrong with FTP. I've tried every conceivable setting in filezilla. I'm sure it's something simple and obvious to someone in the know, but I'm at a loss. Box is connected to internet and I can get the IP address.

I have moved back to spark for the moment, and one thing I notice is channel change is much faster. Is that normal? It is not a remote problem with E2 as I get the same lag when I change the channels via the buttons on the front of the box. I read somewhere it could be something to do with how the tuners are set up, but I've tried just about every setting with no better results.

How do you set up usb wifi in either Satstation or HDMU images? Do they even support it?

I will give that a go tomorrow when my wifi dongle arrives. Though I haven't got the HDMU image working yet, it looks way better than the last one I was using. Thanks again bobby.

Thanks. I downloaded the HDMU image you recommended but haven't managed to get the tuners working. I also reinstalled SPark but it seems to be up to its old tricks :(

I have crossepg working on both Spark and E2, but when I turn on the box I have to click on every channel for the epg info to come in, otherwise they remain blank. This happens in both Spark and E2. Once the epg is in, it is fine - until I restart. Is that normal for these boxes? I only use it for FTA and it's not currently hooked up to the internet.

Is a Mac formatted external HDD compatible with the Alien 2? I know to flash it you need a Fat32 drive, but just for day to day recording/play back.

Go for the Gigablue, it has a proper MIPS CPU unlike the SH4 one the Alien works. Why have a Reliant Robin when you can have a Ferrari. Enigma 2 is native to a MIPS CPU, It has to be messed with to port it over to work on a SH4 box.

My Alien 2 packed up after 10 hours use and my SHD 8900 lasted 3 months. What does that tell you. I've had clones last longer.

These boxes are cheap for a reason, you get what you pay for these days. I would avoid the Alien boxes and go for a receiver with a MIPS cpu, so at least you know you won't be waiting years for a good stable workable image, which will probably be the case of the Alien2.

If you like seeing green screens or waiting for hours for the remote to respond then go for the Alien 2. Its the worst box i have ever had the displeasure of owning.

I'm planning on getting an Alien 2 or a Giga Blue UE in the next week or so. I would much prefer the Alien 2 because of the specs (and price) but am worried the other half will have an epileptic fit when it freezes or some function doesn't work properly.

I hear the latest Satstation E2 image is good, but is it up to scratch? How often does it freeze?

And finally (because I don't know anything about these boxes), is it possible to set the epg in spark to download every night. And if so, do you still only get a now and next view?
