Not really, loop out means that the satellite feed is looped through the receiver when the receiver is not in use thus allowing you to use the feed from the loop through output to another receiver or tv with built in stellite tuner (saves you running another feed to the dish)
It is rarely used to be honest as the receiver/tv connected to the loop out on the main/master receiver can only be used if the main/master receiver is off/in standby.
You'll always need a receiver/tv (with satellite tuner) on the other end of the loop out unless the loop out is on a terestrial tuner in which case, your upstairs tv will then tune in the terestrial channels.

All that should be required is original firmware (model specific), right erom upgrade tool (post 4, downloaded from ferguson ) an rs232 null modem cable and a pc that has rs232.
Some usb to rs232 adaptors will not work.
I have no way of testing the firmware in post 4 as i do not have that model.

You'll need to decide on how many tuners you or your mates require as most if not all can record.
Single tuners record what you watch and anything on the same transponder (dvb-s/s2).
Dual/multi dvb-s/s2 tuner receivers can record anything channel on satellite while you watch a different satellite channel (fixed dish, motorised setup is a bit more complicated).
Also worth considering is weather you'd like to receive terestrial/cable with these receivers as that's a different type of tuner (dvb-t/t2/c tuner)

You could also try to put your line in through oscam.

Have you started cccam?
Should be a press of the blue button and select cccam by scrolling across.
Use 2.3.0 to clear 2 channels (If your recording/streaming etc)

I'd look at mips receivers if you want it to run as a server also.
Vu+ have a great range also but are pricey (but worth it in my opinion):

If it were me, I'd steer clear of the amiko range (unless you are a fan of forever sorting out stability/compatibility issues)

You can edit them for only a certain ammount of time after posting.
