when a computer dies, the whole computer doesn't usually die - could be the bios, os, or just one part of the hardware - maybe worth getting the lid off and doing a bit of fiddling first maybe?

What do you mean you have updated your CCcam to Oscam? They are 2 different things - Oscam can use a CCcam protocol and run as a (sort of) CCcam server, and it also can do much more - but you need to know what you are doing - Clearly you are not knowing the basics yet, so have a look at the oscam wiki - that is a good place to start.
oscam wiki
To view the webinterface you need to ensure the following -
you should have a file called 'oscam.conf' - on my server it is in /usr/local/etcin this file you should have the following;
then you should be able to access the webinterface on port 8888, it refreshes every 5 seconds, and can use localhost and most standard lan ip addresses

A have got a Geniatech ATV1000 - which is a google tv device - a rebranded version of this was selling in cr*plin for just over 50 quid at one point, but other versions can be bought online- has an 'air remote' which is good because it has a full querty keyboard on it. It has an ARM Cortex A9 CPU, whic does the job. It works fairly well using apps such as dreamstreamoid for watching sat tv in another room, and works for HD channels on this with a bit of messing. Web browsing is ok, but still not as good as on a PC. Most of these devices have the usual communities on forums so getting info on rooting, firmware and tweaks isn't a problem. Flash works on this (to a point) but only because there is a hack on an old 10.x version of flash so it works with the hardware. The same goes for HD video, needs to be decoded in the Hardware to work, but this can be done with a couple of video players.
It is a gimick, and a novelty, it can and has been useful, but like most of my gadgets, is just on the pile of gadgets that I bought, used a couple of times and then decided to hoard!

Best way to find out which way to put a card in a slot is check where the metal bits are that touch the chip on the card - shine a torch in the slot and you will see. Always chip end first, and on the omnikey the chip faces you as you put it in, so where you see the front side of the omnikey, so long as you see the chip as you are putting it in then it is the right way!

Thanks mate, I found the password reset option in tspanel, i did it then restarted the box and tried again to ftp to it using username ' root ' and password either ' password ', ' dreambox ' or leave it blank..... none of these work.....
password is 'linuxsat-support'
well, if you are using the backup image that 2bagstew suggested it is, anyway!

And mine runs fine on a board the size of a credit card with 224mb ram (the rest of the 256 is for graphics) and a 4GB sd card:party:

Not sure if i replied to a prev thread (think i might have) but in your your newcamd setup for oscam.conf - the ident for your viasat has a space in the middle that shouldn't be there, and probably you should hash out his whitelist to see if more channels clear.

I am running it off an old smartphone charger - anything that outputs 1A 5 volts DC will do the job.

I am finding that some cards work better in Oscam. I am revisiting it using a JSC Sports card, and rather than controlling what I take from others (even though that is something I am starting to work on) - I have created an entry in Oscam.services that I set on each user account that blocks requests for Jsc Sports +9 and +10, which ensures that none of my peers who have this are getting requests for these channels. This works fine because those services are available on different cards, so can still clear, but doesn't generate any more traffic than CCcam would in this respect. Also to start with, it certainly helps in blocking out receiving services from peers on hop 2 where you have ample of the same on hop 1. If you have a card with a Caid and Ident that covers hundreds of services, and you only subscribe to a card that has a few of them services, then Oscam is a nightmare.
Also have a look at loadbalancing and the oscam wiki for more advice on that. you can actually rotate the requests on your server evenly so rather than hitting your fastest peer for requests on a particular service, you can arrange it so that it is evened out, either rotating the requests, or sending them to the one with the lowest usage, and oscam remembers and learns as well, but these stats get reset at intervals that you can define. Oscam is much work, but can work if you use it right, but as ten said you definitely need to deal with the services that are not on your card, but you still will get the problem that even if a peer does give you a reshare of a service that can be subscribed on your card, but isn't, no matter what you do, it will generate more traffic for your peers than CCcam, and will also appear to your peer as hop one - where it should be hop 2.

okay m8 so 55 quid is the going rate for an update on these cards
That is the cheapest you would probably get from the UK - the only way you would probably get it cheaper is if you can convince JSC sports that you live in one of the areas (Dubai etc) where this channel is offcially available, which would require you to read arabic or rely on google translate and guesswork, to have a VPN set to an arabic country and more than likely be able to provide an address in the said area too!
If I were you I would settle for the £55 quid, but if you do use the link I provided, ensure you read the invoice when you commit to buy, as there is no direct link to paypal after the purchase.
-
pgtips - read what you are buying before you commit to buy. That isn't a full sub, it is an upgrade to ESPN packages. You would pay a base for +1 to +8, more for +9 and +10 and extra still for the ESPN - this is only to upgrade from at least an existing +1 to +8 package.
-
have a read about various cams - all down to personal choice, setup, and how paranoid you are with regards to backdoor rumours!
anyway if you forget the password, ftp in to your receiver - then go to /etc/enigma2 - there is a file called settings, if you look there it has the password configs, including the correct password.
Codeconfig.ParentalControl.servicepinactive=true config.ParentalControl.setuppin=xxxx config.ParentalControl.servicepin.0=xxxxIf you want to change this, before editing, from a telnet session while logged in, type
then after saving the amended settings file, type
to restart your receiver, and your password should then be amended.
To keep things tidy in future, if you have a new unrelated question, could you open up a new thread - this benefits users and saves us a job having to move them!
-
If the reader times out, but oscam is still running, you need to be looking at your oscam configs rather than external scripts. External scripts would be to see if Oscam is still running.

rami - the link is on my post, just follow that- they have different options for different packages - but you are talking about $85 if you are talking US dollars - for the full package it is about $158 from that link, so you might be better off sticking with where you are at, if anything, you might be able to provide us with a link to a cheaper price! Also best to purchase in euros as the the exchange rate on that site must be wrong and in dollars it is more expensive. The prices I quoted in dollars are from the euro price converted in to dollars based on current rates! Problem with getting it direct with th provider's site is that it is geolocked and won't allow anyone outside the countries JSC Sports is supposed to be available to, to purchace a sub, but the one I used doesn't have that issue.
-
I recently used
to update my JSC card - if it is viaccess (and has a serial starting with 322) then should be fine - It costs about 55 quid for a year sub (+1 to +8)
the ones on ebay that are about ten or 15 quid more than this are probably using the above site to renew, and I can verify that I had a good experience with the above site.
Updating your card in your receiver without a cam is no problem. Just download a softcam called 'scam' - I used scam 3.60 - which on a lot of images can be downloaded from tspanel.

could be a few things, could be the tuner configuration, and there could also be a problem with the satellites.xml file. To same messing around you might as well try to install a settings file from the addons panel, restart, and if there is still a problem, it may well be your tuner config.

2 problems with streaming TV from most of the catchup and network providers - most of it uses formats that the receivers are not or never will be compatible with, and it is also geo locked, so you need a VPN. There are solutions where you can stream the TV from your PC to your receiver, but imo you would be better off looking at PC HTPC options or smart TV boxes that can view this content, where you can set up a VPN.
-
You need a very big dish to pick up anything on 28.2e, and I mean big!
Cyprus is home as you know to a big UK army base, and they point their satellite dishes towards 10e, which with a sub card that is issued by their bosses, they can get quite a few UK channels on the BFBS network. It is very difficult, but not impossibe to get this through sharing, or maybe if you knew anyone there in the forces this could be easier.
You are looking for streaming general freesat channels on your receiver, which isn't really an option. You could go down the route of signing up with UK VPN, and with this you could connect your PC to your tv and get your UK telly from
A VPN would fool the above site in to thinking you are in the UK - just do a search VPN on the net and you will see quite a few out there - I used ane called strongvpn, for a small monthly fee. Most out there charge, but every now and again you might be able to find a free one.

I did pr2 - I deleted everything and started from scratch and your edits worked fine, as you rightly said libusb is already there - the only thing that needs to be done is moving the list_smargo out of the source folder, then delete the sources.
-
thanks but just to make it clear - do you suggest that when compiling oscam instead of
Quotecmake -DWEBIF=1 ..
we should instead do
Quotecmake -DHAVE_LIBUSB=1 -DHAVE_PCSC=1 -DWEBIF=1 -DHAVE_LIBCRYPTO=1 -DWITH_SSL=1 ..
and rather than
QuoteDisplay Morecd /usr/src/
mkdir libusb
chmod 755 libusb
cd libusb
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.n….0.6/libusb-1.0.6.tar.bz2
tar xjf libusb-1.0.6.tar.bz2
chmod 755 libusb-1.0.6
cd libusb-1.0.6
chmod libusb
./configure
make
make installwe can just do
Quotesudo ln -s /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libusb-1.0.a /usr/local/lib/libusb-1.0.a
i was looking for list_smargo because I am having problems getting it to read a conax card in mouse or smargo mode so looking to try it in smartreader mode
will try this after the footy!
