Can you tell us if there was a working image on the box before this and if so what was it???
With the new images that you are trying to install on it did you update the bootloader first?
Try putting BH 1.7.3 on it and see if you get a picture with it installed, if this works then i'm afraid you might have a clone on your hands...

You will need to place the ipk file by FTP in the "tmp" folder in your box.
Once you have done this press the green button then the yellow button on your remote, then select Manually install ipk packages.
In here you will see the ipk file and press ok to install it.
I would go for the TM 2600 if you are going to use a Triax 1.1 dish on it, I also us a a Triax 1.1 and tried a SUPREME DARK MOTOR LED METAL GEAR with it, nothing but problems with it, there is a weight issue with this combination, especially if you leave the dish for a while on 28.2e then try to move it, what I found is that it needed a helping hand to get going again, i.e had to go outside and use the buttons on the motor to get it moving again, I only put up with it for while due to my dish being on the side of the garage.
I thought this problem was unique to me but it seems this is a common problem with this combination of the triax 1.1 & Dark Motor.
Go for the the TM 2600, bullet proof motor that will give you no problems at all.

I think you should try them both on your solo2, these images are both equally as good as each other.
In the end it's only really your opinion that counts because it's your box, so choose the one that you like best.

You will need to use a FTP program to install this buddy,
Extract the files from the attachment, you will find a folder called usr.
Then follow the path every time you click on the folder, ie
usr/lib/enigma2/python/components/renderer (the file in here is the one you need to ftp over to your box)
usr/lib/enigma2/python/plugins/extensions/display control (this folder display control is the one you need to ftp over to your box)
once you have done this make sure you do a full restart on the solo2.
I have attached the latest version here for you buddy:
After you install that ipk in the tmp folder open a telnet session and put in the following command:
opkg install -force-overwrite /tmp/enigma2-plugin-extensions-tspanel_6.9_mips32el.ipk
note after the 6.9 it says mips32el, that's the version you need for the latest images.

It might be worth your while plugging the duo in and seeing if there is a image already installed on it, there could well be although it might just be the original Vu image.
In answer to your questions,
Yes you can flash the duo straight out of the box no probs, but I would update the bootloader first just to be on the safe side before you flash on any of the latest images.
No real need to backup the original firmware that comes with the duo as this can be flashed back on at any stage if you prefer it.

Once you have flashed that on then you can set your own preferences. Also have a look at the Vix backup's on the forum, well worth a look.

ok no problem, i would use the image menu to mount the usb rather than ts panel this time round, see what happens.
Ok buddy, remove the usb pen drive from your box and format it to fat32 on a lappy or pc, then insert it back in.
What image are you using??? if it is Vix then it will auto mount, if it's Blackhole you will be to mount it.Press the blue button twice on your remote and go to device manager.
To change your epg to not open the bouquets list first,
Press the epg button, the bouquet list will show up, select one of these so that you have the listings showing.
Ok once you have the channels showing with the start times etc press the "menu" button on your remote. A new list will show on the screen, you will then see a option to "show bouquet on launch" set this to no.

Have you tried re-flashing your box with the latest version from usb?? not a software update.
Should do the trick.

When you flash a image onto the solo2 from a usb stick you have to push the power button on the front of the box when prompted for it to start the flashing process.
