Hey guys, im still waiting for the penny to drop for me but unfortunately not there yet. Not sure if I am explaining myself correctly but here goes. I want to cardshare my personal sly subscription with my friends and family so picked up a dual core computer with 3gb ram for the server. Ive installed ubuntu server 12.4 on this but done nothing else with the server. I have my personal computer that im using now currently running on windows 7, Ten below advised me to use cs studio instead of putty and winscp, not too sure what any of these programs do just to make you aware, originally I thought cs studio had to be installed on the server but ten below advised it needs to be installed on a separate computer. Ive gone into my router and setup a static ip for the server but not opened a port as of yet, not completely sure how to do it via my router settings. Feel like I have only completed number 1 of this tutorial but not sure on where I go from here now. Would it be possible for admin to teamviewer my system or give me some advice. mckee25 sent me a tread regarding cs studio but still at my wits end :( (thanks though mckee25). Bought an Omnikey CardMan 3121 so should be delivered on monday, just wanted to try get everything in place before then. Please guys any help would be really appreciated. If someone can give me 1 to 1 help id send ya the best bottle of jim beam Asda have to offer, lol

Ok so up to now I have installed Ubuntu server on a desktop but not done anything else with it, ive installed cs studio on a separate computer running windows 7 but both on the same network, ie plugged into router. Ive gone into the router manually and setup a static IP address for the ubuntu server but really not sure what I have to do from here. Do I do something with the server, ie terminal lines etc or do I do something with cs studio via my windows 7 computer? Please guys any help would be appreciated.

Brilliant, how would I install programs? TenBelow advised me to use CS Studio instead of putty and winscp. Should I install this now? Also should I setup a static ip on another computer ive got on the network or do it through ubuntu server? If the server how do I get a browser interface up? Sorry for the lack of knowledge ive got :(

Ok guys please be gentle with me, my first time working with ubuntu. So I downloaded ubuntu server iso, put on to disc. Followed the above instructions to install it but after installing ubunto my system reboots into what looks like a dos screen asking for username and password. So I put that information in, it logs me in but just takes me to another command line. Is there a front end more graphical side of ubuntu server? ie were I can use the mouse and find directories as opposed to manually typing root files etc... Hope im making sense! Also how would I install any of the above names programs by only having access to the terminal screen?? Really confused, think im missing something, any help would be appreciated. Only half hour in and ive hit a brick wall :(

Ive got 2 sly cards running on 2 official sly HD+ boxes. Got my main subscription plus a multiroom card? Will I still be able to share?

Oh ya, too early I guess, lol. Is there a step by step tutorial or do I just follow this one and leave out installing the winscp file and cccam-ascam file?. Just put ubunto on a disc to install and wanted to make sure ive got everything in place before jumping in :)

Hey, not far in and got a question, what version of putty do I download, is it 'putty-0.63.tar.gz' from the link provided above?

Thanks guys, all these bits of advice are really helping me out. Just dont want to spend alot of time setting it up and making promises to family then failing miserably, lol. Do you think im over stepping the mark sharing my sly subscription with family or even having the ability to setup my own server to work correctly? Granted it is illegal and probably morally wrong but got to be truthful, if I could get it to work and share it with family then my conscience would be clear. Hope I dont offend anyone.
Jsc sports is out the window though, dont think the wife or any of my sisters would agree to a big dish on the house, lol. Can anyone recommend an exact model card reader, preferably ebay?

Thanks for that mate, so if I got a jsc subscription card and a dish big enough to pick the channels up, would I then be creating a payserver if I share that card over my server? Also would the people wanting to share that card have to also have a dish that big? Please dont take me the wrong way, my intentions are not to sell the service but to allow my family to watch the games aswell as sly.
Are there any other subscription providers in the UK you would recommend or is sly the main one?

How would I check if my sly card is paired? Guessing if it is paired them I wont be able to share my subscription with family?

Hey guys, could really do with someones guidance. It all started when my brother had a friend of a friend of a friend etc who said he has a box that can view all football matches, sly tv etc... He was asking my brother for £15 per month plus £150 for the viewing box and setup fee so my brother came to me and asked my opinion. Not really something ive had much dealings with so started trying to find out what the process is to achieve this. So far, correct me if I am wrong but in order to do this I would need to run my own server (Ubuntu server with static ip), have a card reader to put a legitimate subscription card in, ie sly card, have cccam and other software running to provide access codes, ie clines for people with dreamboxes, openboxes etc, that would allow them to view the subscribed channels that I would be paying for? If thats right, what subscription card views the English premier league matches on? I could really do with someones knowledge on the subject and any advice possible to achieve this. Just to paint a picture I have 3 brothers and 4 sisters, my wife has 2 brothers and a sister plus both our parents, all of them minus 1 currently have sly tv so I could potentially be saving my family alot of money plus any friends.

Got pc all plugged in, just getting all the software together then jumping in to install ubuntu server. Apart from sly card, does anyone know of other cards out there that I can subscribe to and share? Also would I have to buy individual card readers for each card that I intend to share or is there a card reader that accepts a few cards? Still very much a novice on the subject so if anyone would be willing to talk me through the process id really appreciate it or any information that will get me to the goal of hosting my own server running a few different cards and sharing my subscriptions with friends and family or anyone willing to buy a ***box, dreambox etc

Hi guys, new to linuxsat so still trying to find my way around. Im wanting to setup a server for card sharing and wondering the best way possible. Ive got a computer ready for O/S install ubuntu etc, Ive got a *** subscription card, just need a card reader I think and ive got a ***box F5s box to test that the clines from the server work ok? Any advice would be really appreciated? Hoping to share to around 20 users. Again thanks for any advice you can give.
