How to USB flash recovery multiboot menu on AX HD61

The Multiboot recovery menu on the AX HD61 rarely needs reflashing — only if you have a problem or there's an update. Recovery zip files are released with every image build, but you do not need to reflash the recovery menu with every release.

At the time of writing, reflashing the recovery menu does not remove or affect your installed images (this could change in a future update). AX Technology HD61 units bought from World-of-Satellite.co.uk ship with the latest recovery menu pre-flashed; the current revision is bootmenu r311.

Flashing the recovery menu

1. Download the latest recovery menu from OpenViX, OpenATV, or wherever you prefer — for example from OpenViX downloads here. (At the time of writing the latest release is openvix-5.3.023.release-ax61_recovery_emmc.zip.)
2. Unzip the file to your desktop. You'll have: the hd61 directory, recovery_ax61_lies.mich, recovery_ax61_READ.me, bootargs.bin and fastboot.bin.
3. Format a USB stick (max 8 GB) as FAT32.
4. Copy all the files and the hd61 folder to the root of the USB stick.
5. Power off the AX HD61.
6. Connect the USB stick to the rear USB 2.0 port, behind the front flap.
7. Hold down the rear RESET button (next to the tuner inputs).
8. Power on while holding the RESET button — keep holding until FLSH appears on the front display.
9. Be patient. Once successful, the AX HD61 reboots into the recovery menu.
10. You'll see various options — to keep things simple, select Boot 1. LINUX_1 to boot into the image in slot 1.

⚠️ Don't interrupt the flash. While the receiver is flashing, do not power it down for any reason — doing so can cause serious or permanent damage.
