How to format Micro SD card, USB flash drive, pen drive, hard drive or SSD for use with Z and S Formuler Boxes.

If you format your recording device (in most cases SD Card or USB Stick) with your OS and experience strange behaviour on your Box, recordings are not finished or not saved on the recording device, then could unsuccessful or wrong formatting be the reason for this issue.

Formuler Boxes support following format:

• FAT32
• NTFS
• exFAT

For now it is not possible to format directly the recording devices with the Formuler Box and if you install some format App, they does n`t work well.

In most cases we recommend NTFS format for use with Formuler Boxes (best experience) and format tool "Rufus". Rufus is one of the best format tools on the web.

1. Download Rufus tool from this site (recommend portable version), install (setup file) or copy (portable) to your pc.
2. Connect your USB device or SD Card with pc.
3. Start Rufus.
4. Choose your device and set Rufus like on this picture (type volume label like you want) and click on start.

After finished formatting you can use now your USB device or SD card on Formuler box.

*Format description

FAT32: compatible with Mac and Windows. A FAT32 partition can reach 2TB when formatted on a Mac. The individual file size is limited to 4GB. FAT32 can affect your hard drive’s performance.

NTFS: is the native file system for Windows, volumes created in NTFS are read and write with computers running Windows. Earlier versions of Mac OS X 10.5 or higher may read and write to the NTFS partitions with the help of third-party drivers. There are two formats for NTFS, MBR and GPT. The maximum volume size for MBR is 2TB while the more recent GPT format does not assign limits to file or partition sizes.

exFAT: compatible with Mac and Windows. exFAT is used as an alternative to FAT32 since it does not share the same limitations. It is therefore an excellent cross-platform file system.
