Is it in recovery / flash mode ?
Does it have an ip address ? If so, enter the ip address of the DM900 into a browser and see if you get access to the web interface.
Have you tried recovery in telnet ?

No communication from lan port, no comm by serial cable. Box came from Portugal.
Solid front red light, lan lights both on solid.

Is that true the chinese already have clones out of the dm900? Well this one right out of the box is bad, also I noticed the box label on front looks different, also the sticker on both shipping and dm900 says dm900 triple tuner, but in fact its a dvb-s2. The seller is so far trying to assure me the box is ok, and to try to enter rescue mode.
I will probably have to get paypal involved.

would you please upload some photos of the red light on the front panel. It may help others in the same position identify the problem.

I didnt have putty settings correct, got a boot log that shows the box has a hardware failure, luck me.

Copy and paste each line into telnet / putty, pressing enter button after each.

Do you see a red exclamation mark ! on the front panel ? If so its now in flash mode. Go to the web interface and flash an image.
Or try flashing the rescue image in telnet/putty:
open telnet/ssh session and type:

go to Dreambox.de there is a section to tell you if you have a genuine box from them.
type in the code on the box they tell you if its genuine.
Ask them for any advise on your box. Its a German site but they do speak English.

Does the receiver boot into the image ? You can start recovery mode from the menu.

This means the receiver is already in rescue / flash mode.
Look in the router to find out what the dm900`s ip address is the flash an image via a browser.
Clear browsing cache or try different browsers if you don`t see any flashing options.
