Automatic Scanning on BH 3.0.5

  • I would like to get a simple answer to these three questions as someone must know this.

I have a Ultimo 4k using BH 3.0.5 and I have manually added ALL my transponder for years even on my Duo2 and now for the first time I have used Automatic Scan on the Ultimo 4K.

See for years I always Scanned Manual scanning and only for FTA ONLY and I noticed now when I scan AUTO it scans Encrypted channels too (this no Problem because sometime I need these channels).

Now that ok as I can generate a Favorite for each Satellite and put the FTA in any of my favorites with some Encrypted Channels if needed. Also I have noticed that the Ultimo 4k Hops to 17 Satellite either C and Ku Band Satellites on my system which takes 1.1/2 hours to do.

Now for the three question I would like to be answered

1/ Does the Ultimo 4k box only scan what in my own XML files in the box or whats in my XML file that I can see in my Dreambox Edit or does it scan other frequencies that I don't know about being used in Auto mode (I know it has no blind function). Seems to me on any satellite I cant recoginse the frequencies that were viewed on the TV.

2/ When you do a Auto scan can you do a Single satellite not all of them

3/ I have notice that when Im on a Satellite that I want to Auto scan when I start the scan it start to move on another Satellite and scans in any order. If there a reason why it does this As it might scan "A" Satellite and the next one to scam is 80 degrees away and when its finishes it come back to the Satellite NEXT to the one It scanned before. Yes it goes back and forward from my motorized Dish to Fixed C and ku Band dishes, Its all over the Place.

You would think it would have a process to start from Say as an example start from Asiasat 5 at 100.0 5 Deg and go from there to Asiasat 7 at 105.5 deg E and goes to next satellite next to it as at the moment its everywhere.

What do you think? is there a setting in the box that I have missed or can it be fix this or is it like this all the time when scanning multiple Cband and sats.

Hope someone can answer this for me and others that still read these forums for some info.

    Thanks all

Im no guru on it but will give you my 2 pence

Scanning on e2 boxes is simply shite (there is some exceptions on old hardware)

Blind scan dont work so only channels on valid TP's via your sat.xml will be found

Also what firmware your using will also affect results, the sat.xml is maintained by them, the image teams....

you can of course change it.....But without a real hardware blind scan it is kind of pointless and so i leave it up to the channel list makers which we are lucky to have imho

  • I have updated to the latest XML file from http://satellites-xml.org/ the creator site and this XML file works good on our Ultimo 4k. but at the same time I have used XML file from https://satellites-xml.eu/ and I have nothing but issues in my reception settings and or in the satellite list were all off my CBand sats are Missing so now I'm using XML file from http://satellites-xml.org/ the creator site .

Now the big question is if I replace my Satellite XML file from http://satellites-xml.org/ the creator site once a month does this add the New Transponders and Remove the Dead ones that i had before so if i do a Auto scan it find the New channel on the new transponder with its added NEW Frequency and Symbol rate and remove the dead ones if you select the option (I think its called) CLEAR BEFORE YOU REC-SCAN".

I had a look in Explorer to see whats inside the XML file and at the same time I can see differences between the New and Old XML file in different XML file from 3 months ago.

This is New for me to do everything this way .

Because we cannot do a Blind scan all we can do is change the XML file regular and allow the XML file to update transponders and channels with a Auto scan. Is this true that you can do it this way to keep the box with the latest transponders and channels .

    Many Thanks.

  • Another issue I will have

If you can change the XML file monthly to get new transponder on any Satellite in a second or so, now that easy but you have to update all the setting in reception Setting and since I have about 21 Satellite c and ku band stored I have about 1 hour of work to do to input them back in manually. Surely there must be a easier way to replace all the Reception Setting for each used satellites I have. 21 Satellites is a lot to do manually.

How can get around the above issue? its a pain if I have to manually add them in on 21 Satellites

    Have tried the website ??

Zip up your setting and upload them for conversion to the new .xml

    Enigma2 settings converter

Convert your Enigma2 settings for full compatibility with our satellites.xml. Settings file must be in .zip or .rar format.

I don't use this myself as i have cable and iptv in with my motor's list, so no idea if it works or not.

Automatic scan scans everything you have set your tuners to receive. If you want to scan specific satellites, use manual scan. You should have an option to select the satellites you want to scan.

Satellites.xml is not used for tuning. It is used for validating the available satellites and positions. lamedb file is what holds the tuning parameters.

Scanning does not alter your bouquets. If you select "clear before scan", you will get an "N/A" for the channels that no longer exist in lamedb. This is a good thing because you would have just got a "tune failed" before you scanned.

  • Sorry for the late reply as I was off the Computer for a few days.

I have no trouble on doing a conversion from Enigma 1 to 2 but the trouble is when I update the XML. fine I lose all my setting in reception setting. when I'm talking about reception setting I'm talking about Setting like 1/ LNB 2 PRIORITY 3/ LOF 4/ Voltage Mode 5/ Increase Voltage 6/ Committed Fast Command 7/ Diseqc Diseqc,,,,, so on So on so on,, this is what I lose and I have to add again on 21 satellite. I was told that using Open BH this not a issue. I use BH

  • How can I update my XML File without losing the setting in reception setting. Can it be done with BH 3.0.5 image. Told that using OPEN BH you dont have this issue. Change XML file and the setting in reception setting are still there on existing satellites but not on NEW Satellites as to be expected.

  • If you want to scan specific satellites, use manual scan. You should have an option to select the satellites you want to scan.

As far as I know I cannot scan one single Satellite in auto, If I do a AUTO scan it scan 21 Satellites one after each other. I never seen this option on BH 3.0.5 Image that allows me to AUTO scan on a single Satellite. I can only do a MANUAL Scan on a Single Satellite.

I starting to think that changes between image are causing this. One image has this but does not have that the other image has that but does not have this.

Just update the satellites.xml. Your tuner configuration will not be changed if the positions in the xml files are the same as the existing one you have.

    Bear in mind that:

OpenPLI, OpenVix, OpenBlackhole, OpenATV and other OE-A images use the orbital positions from Lyngsat. As an example they use 0.8w

Blackhole uses the one from Kingofsat. They use 1w.

I think you misread post 10. If you want to scan a single satellite, use manual scan.

  • Yes your first line has puzzled me and as far as I know I have always changed to a new xml file for an example from measat 91.5 east to nss9 at 177w but even then when I update the new xml file with the exact parameters of satellites I always had to add the 21 satellites settings, the lot of them in reception settings and trust me this is a pain.

Regarding openPLI, OpenVix, OpenBlackhole ands others using all the positions from lyngsat yet blackhole uses kingofsat. This is new for me (good, another thing ive learnt) as I have been also recommended to use OpenBlackhole over blackhole but some say you lose features on OpenBlackhole.
