  • What is the benefit of flashing to lastest software?

I have Zgemma H9 Combo receiver which is on enigma2 image and opentv 6.2 how do I flash online without losing my current data?

  • Well it all depends on what you use your box for.
Most modern plugin will need modern software images.

Me personally as a plugin designer and skinner have decided I am no longer supporting older python 2.7 images.
So that means anything older than openatv 7 will probably not be able to update any of my plugins in the near future,

But if the plugins you are using are still working, then you don't have to keep updating to newer images.

It is entirely up to you as the user.

Your box is a little old now and not very powerful compared to modern boxes. (great box in its day though) Maybe time to put some money aside for a new box.

But if you are not clear of the update process I have a setup guide here.

  • Hello

Your box is a little old now and not very powerful compared to modern boxes. (great box in its day though) Maybe time to put some money aside for a new box.

Do you have any tips on what to buy instead of Zgemma H9Combo?

  • look at Linuxsat sponsors. https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/

If buying a new box, look for the quad cores rather than dual cores.
And you will need dual tuner if you want to watch and record at the same time.
IPTV doesn't need a dual tuner, but a multi user account from your provider.

There is limited choice nowadays even on ebay.

Octagon SF8008 is a popular box.
I got a VU zero 4k - which is perfectly fine. Only single tuner though.

Depends on your needs though, regarding tuners.

    Octagon SF8008

    •   – Hisilicon Hi3798MV200 Huawei

      – Quad Core 64Bit (4x 1.6GHz) 15000 DMIPS

      – Flash 8GB eMMC

      – RAM 1GB DDR4

      – Gigabit LAN Ethernet (1000Mbps)

Octagon SF8008 is very similar to Zgemma H9 Combo which is no longer available. However, the differences are too small for me and I will wait for something else. I have older VU+ receivers and it seems to me that they have better picture and sound on my TV but they were much more expensive and VU Ultimo reached high temperatures in the summer and got damaged
  • Maybe I read that original post incorrectly.

Zgemmas are great little boxes. Good prices too.
Historically the H9 was the bad apple of the bunch. For some reason it was more problematic than all other zgemmas. Most people prefered the H7.

Maybe I am thinking of the H9S and not the H9,2S or H9 Combo
