Change multiboot from command line

  • I am feeling my way around this new box, Octagon SF8008, and decided to try the multiboot option. There was a second image already installed, a Define one, so I chose it and rebooted. I got nothing, no interface, the display on the box says no channels. The box is running, I can telnet in and there is a web interface. So I want to either change back to my working image, or get an interface going on this Define image, the only access I have right now is through telnet. I see there is a boot directory with several STARTUP files in it. What is the best way to go from here?

    Thanks

  • You can always switch off the box using the back side switch and press and hold the front power switch and turn on the box with the back switch and when you see "update" on the box-display release the front switch and wait until you get in the recovery menu, you can do many things here.

  • Good news and not so good news. Following your instructions, first I saw "update" on the display, still black screen. After a minute or so, it turned to "recovery", still black screen. I waited a couple of minutes, then started pressing buttons on the remote, Menu, Exit, green, yellow, blue, no response from the remote. After another couple of minutes the display changed to "boot" on its own, and the box booted back into OpenATV, just as it was before I changed the multiboot to the Define image. I never did see a recovery menu.

So, all is good now, thanks to your help. As I learn more about this box, I'll look into using Recovery Mode and also how to use multiboot for testing other images. Thanks again!

  • Update --

I found a way to change the slot to boot from using the command line. The files in /boot control which image in which slot boots up. The system uses the STARTUP file, which is a copy of one of the other files. STARTUP_1 is for slot one, STARTUP_2 is for slot two and so on. I was trying to boot Openvix from slot 3 with no luck, so I copied the STARTUP_1 file to STARTUP and the box booted right back up to my working image in slot 1. If you decide you want to try this, I strongly suggest making a backup of all these files first and store them on a USB drive or someplace where you can get to them when you need them.
