Hi to everyone. I am interested in finding a STB with a reliable SAT>IP client to link to a SELFSAT SATELLITE IP38 Flat Antenna. atm the Octagon SX988 looks favourite but not sure of which boot/software would be best suited. HUMAX H1 and SELFSAT dongle have both proved problematical (failing after a few minutes), whereas SAT>IP DVB Viewer Lite Edition works fine on a PC over a long period.
SAT>IP Client

Octagon have replied re SX988:
"both operating system works for sat ip client.
i prefer e2 openatv for sat ip client.
is pre installed, no need download."

Went ahead and ordered the Octagon SX988 and yes, SAT>IP works well out of the box! A complex STB and still trying to create a favourite list as yet to find an online manual.

Can SAT-IP be used to view TV while away from the receiver in another location?
-
Yes within reason. The SAT>IP server, in my case this is integral with the SELFSAT antenna, can be located anywhere on the property provided you have a network connection to the STB and viewing screen. This can be achieved by Powerline adapters or physical network cable. If you have a static IP then presumably you could access the SAT>IP server remotely. The Octagon SX988 also includes an app to view internet TV channels, YouTube, etc separate to a SAT>IP connection.

Thanks Silkie, in my case I'm looking to view from my sf8008 receiver while away from home in another lcoation. I've read I can do this by setting a VPN on my router but I want to avoid the added expense as my current router cannot allow a VPN.

Hi Pabloisred, if I remember correctly the VPN suggestion looks good as this should put your remote device in effect on the local network.
