Is there an obvious reason why neither my Satellite or terrestrial EPGs update properly?
Sometimes they are full other times they are virtually empty.

Maybe the device you are storing EPG on is not being mounted properly. What device are you storing EPG on? Are you rebooting your box regularly?
I'm not sure where the EPG is being stored I'll take a look and see.
My box has been rebooting itself a lot recently (my experiments watching IPTV have been causing issues)

As you can see my EPG is being saved to Internal Flash, this explains why it's been missing lately, due to my IPTV induced system crashes.
I've tried to change the EPG location, but when I select it, I don't get an option to change it.
Do you have a storage device connected to the receiver? HDD, USB flash drive? Is it mounted properly?
You should not have changed most of those options from the default. Please change the load, save, refresh options to default.
PS
There is a link to guide to take screenshots in my signature.
I have my Network Drive connected to the Zgemma and I am "Fairly" confident it is mounted correctly.
The Zgemma saves it's recordings to the drive OK and plays them back too.
From the "File List" I can also navigate to other files on the drive and watch them on the Zgemma.
If your network mount is mounted correctly, I don't know why it is not being offered as an EPG storage location. Maybe it was offline at boot time or timing issues. Best to add a local storage device:- USB, SD
Also, I forgot to say, for your Terrestrial channels (received using an aerial), you will have to zap to them regularly to absorb the EPG. You can install EPG refresh plugin to do that for you. Or set a terrestrial channel as a startup service.

I just went to settings again and the option to change the storage location was there this time, not sure why it was offline but it's OK now.

Sorry, but I don't know how to set up a channel as a start up service.
In the channel list (not grid EPG), press menu and you will get options.
Found it thank you.
