  • It's the price that calms you down, a small satellite dish at 100 euros, guys hesitate, especially of this shape, but from what I've read on French sites, it's good quality and works very well, I think you can go for it.....

Price of both is within budget. Quality is never cheap but neither are that expensive

You are right and as I always say, the price is forgotten and the quality remains.....

    Yes exactly.

Some people want to spend 50€ or under and expect the dish to be out of this world and last forever.

The Sky dishes are fine but they are mesh and TBH I'm not a fan. They just have cheap build and just enough quality to do the job.

Sometimes it is better to go for better quality, install it and then not have to mess around with it for a long time. Saves a lot of hassle and money later on.

I could install it myself as fixed dish is not hard so will save on installation anyway.

I already have one. They rust and are not good quality. The mesh is a compromise anyway.

Perfect, please take some signal readings using the same STB from before and after replacement.

A handful of channels will do (preferably with the SNR figure in DB) I would be interested in the results.

My zone 2 sly dish is 15 plus years old, its moved several times over the years with the various houses and hasn't rusted yet. It still works just like the day i put it up.

The 30 year old CM 120 gets a karcher every summer and looks like new again, the cheapo 85cm dish however is probably on its last legs (and that one is only 7 years old)

  • Hi,

At this moment in time I think I will more likely go down the Cahors/Visiosat route.

    Cahors SMC

    55cm Gain @ 12,625 GHz 34,5 dB

    65cm Gain @ 12,625 GHZ 36 dB

    Technisat Digidish

    33cm Gain @11.3 GHz 30dB

    45 cm Gain @ 11.3 GHz 32,2 dB

    Sky Zone 1 Mesh

    Gain @ 11.7 GHz 33.5dB

    Gain @ 12.75 GHz 33.7dB

    Sky Zone 2 Mesh

    Gain @ 10.70GHz: 35.2dBi

    Gain @ 12.75GHz: 36.7dBi

To do a true comparison I guess you would have to use the same LNB and switch it out on each dish and compare on the same Freq. I wouldn't have the time for that I'm afraid !

They all seem to perform close enough. It just comes down to the build quality I guess and in that the Cahors and Technisat look well in front.

  • SMC / Fiber is definitely the way to go, for longevity, now the positions 13, 19.2, 28.2 are definitely likely to stay for a long time... I am happy of mines, installed 30 years ago (1995)... two dishes, one on 28.2 and one 13 and 19... then I did again 15 years ago with a 13+19+23.5+28.2 and 5 years ago another one, 13+19+28.2... all BiSat VisioSat (Cahors now), the 80 cm one...

I have a 1.1m motorised set up as well.

It covers pretty much the full arc from Eutelsat 70B @ 70.5E through to Intelsat 14 @ 45W. I'm very lucky and get brilliant signals from even the low orbitals !

That's been up there for at least 15 years and come rain, wind or shine it's never missed a beat. Had to change to a Unicable LNB once and that was it !

The second dish is fixed, Sky Zone 1 and that's the one I want to change up first.

I might even refresh both and go for a double Cahors set up and go for the 1m SMC. Would prefer the 1.2m but it's twice the weight of the 1m and it requires a jack actuator. The H-H disecq mount and unicable is the way to go so I might stick on the 1m.

  • Have a 1.2 m dish as well on first installation (30 years ago)... no brand... still on my MSS1000 Pace Analogic (with good old Videocrypt dual reader), with motor... I still have it installed, but it's a long time ago I didn't moved the dish that is pointed at 0.9 "Thor"... and stays there. LOL

That is great coverage, i only have the small dish for anything either side of 39e or 14w sadly.

Im just reading up on the Cahors, they look to be very good quality indeed, with impressive gain figures.

Oh they were awesome RX's in their day. 4 core cables etc. I had one of those !

I've had 1.2m CM and 1.5m and host of others. Pretty much been through most so understand and recognise quality.

I had a 1.25m Gibertini. That was an awesome premium dish.

The one I have up there now is an Alsat printed 1.1m on a Dark Motor metal gear H-H mount. Unicable and H-H has made something very technical remarkably simple. Its a gem of a no brand dish.

There used to be a satellite installer nearby who used to contract work for a major aerospace firm and do all their satellites on the roof at their site nearby.

I was very lucky as I asked him kindly and he came around with 3 of his guys and stuck the whole rig up on the wall in about an hour. The precision was unreal and they were proper pro's. It hasn't budged a mm since then !

    Quality is king.

As long as you are getting what you mainly watch then that is fine. The rest is overkill or hobbyist stuff.

On the East side there is the Turkish stuff and at 68 E you can get the African channels and at 70E depending on time and weather I can pick up some stray Middle East stuff.

West side 30W is good for the Spanish and you get some interesting streams sometime on the ones out to 45W

Sadly, I've been out of the sat scene for quite some years and just getting back into it !

The small dish is just to have a fixed feed for Freesat 28.2 and all the TV's in the house.

  • Even more intriguingly I came across the Technisat 45cm with the 4 way multisat LNB block on their website.

If it can pick up all 4 birds off that dish face it must be capable of quite a performance punch from that dish face !

    Top features

    • 1 or 2 participants
    • 4 orbital positions (Eutelsat 13° East, Astra 19,2° East, Astra 23,5° East and Astra 28,2° East)
    • perfect for ground- or wall mounting
    • Reception of BBC-channels on Astra 28.2° East

    MULTYTENNE QUATTROSAT, one participant(Schräg, Rechts)

  • I prefer defenitely the 80cm version BiSat, which for sure will give you enough gain for a good reception, no risk when you have clouds... eg, 45 cm is really small...

    Visiosat dish

    Description of visiosat dish:

The reflector of the BISAT antennas has been specially designed to allow to receive on a single antenna several satellites for individual applications. Depending on your position and your need you will be able to receive 2, 3 or 4 satellites with a single antenna.

Thanks to the BISAT G4B antenna access the best of the digital offer of Hot Bird 13°E, Astra 19.2°E, Astra 23.5°E and Astra 28.2°E.

  • The Bisat is a great dish but not so many stockists in the UK. I would have to import it from EU which can be headache.

    • Official Post

i found this one, has an option for 3 sats:

Cahors BISAT G2 75cm Fibreglass SMC Dual Feed Satellite Dish Grey
CAHORS BISAT G2 75CM DUAL FIBREGLASS SATELLITE DISH ANTENNA GREY FOR ASTRA 19.2E & HOTBIRD 13E Cahors BISAT G2 75cm static multi-satellite antenna with…
    www.pulsat.com

Would make sense to add a few more sats if getting a quality dish :thumbs up:

  • You can easily change the front part (the BiSat itself doesn't change at all for all models), just select a different sat configuration, like 13+19.2+28.2.

The reason why the Technisat Multytenne came back into the frame was that has a Quatro block LNB and Diseqc switch all built in and one output.

I am only looking for a Sky dish replacement and that one output can then be distributed out.

It's a very neat, small and tidy set up.

Partly it's down to the intrigue because even though it is such a small dish they must have managed to eek out one hell of a performance to be able to offer it as that combo !

I could do the same with the Bisat but then it would involve an external switch and a bit more fiddling about.

It's a shame we don't get too many dish reviews nowadays. Seems a lot is just down to chance and whatever is on offer at that time etc.

  • If one LNB fails, you have to change all ? You cannot set for every lnb, the number of output you want (selection, 1 or 4, or 8 outputs LNBs), etc... for me too risky when all is built together and you cannot replace just a part if it fails.

Yeah that's a good point. It's a single monoblock so if it dies then the whole lot would need a swap out.

Looking at the pics though that housing looks like it is made to last so probably not much to go wrong !

They also do a 65cm version and that would be more comparable to the Bisat

  • Yes, check the monoblock, how it's built, and how much it costs... it's only 1 output ? Probably ? I use all my BiSat with 4 outputs LNBs, so it's for 4 home TVs.

Definitely I would go more on the 65 cm, as the 45 in case of bad weather (which is typical for UK, LOL), could go blank due to weak signal... and you into reading a book instead of watching TV.

It's difficult as there are very few places that sell either dish in the UK and they are not nearby to visit for me either.
