  • Hi KiddaC

    I have been using your vskin 1080 for a long time.

    Plum-black mixture is perfect for this skin.

    Is it possible to make some modifications?

    For i.e.;

    Progress bar on infobar ?

    Bigger picon size (Maybe 220x132 ,except for 150x90)

    More info instead of vskin-gfx ?

    I tried some changes to express myself

    this way.That attached

    the skin replicates the original which is why there is no progress bar and picons are at that size.

    Feel free to experiment yourself. It's your box, you can customise skins however you want.

    You can create a new file called skin_user_vskin-1080.xml in /etc/enigma2/

    the structure of that file will be

    Code
    <skin>
        <screen ..........>
         </screen>

         <screen ..........>
         </screen>
    </skin>

    Any screens you add in here will override the original skin screen. So your amends will work even if you update the skin after a new release.

    My KiddaC Skin E2sentials plugin has a Screennames option. Which will show what that screen name is called.
    So you can easily indentifiy what that screen is called.

    Then its just a case of borrowing elements from other skins and adding in the appropriate code and adjusting layouts and using hte correct colours.
    (my skins all use custom components - so best to look at my other skins elements rather than 3rd party skins)

    Note: colours need to be either hex values or named colours from the skin.xml file

    If you use notepad++ you can do a file search for screen names easily. So you know what file a particular elements lives in. (ctril shift f)
    Then just copy it over to your user file and amend.

  • And like most skinners - I had no idea what I was doing at first.
    You just look what other skins are doing - copy code over - tweak what you dont like. Add your own personal touch
    Next minute - (or should I say for the rest of my life) - a new skin is born :smiling face: :spit:

  • You can create a new file called skin_user_vskin-1080.xml in /etc/enigma2

    Thanks for this very useful info, it answers nicely to my question at the end of this post.

    That is so true, I hope skin authors don't mind the modifications made by amateurs like me.

    Or, who knows, maybe they say "How couldn't I think of this?" for some of them. :winking face:

  • People have been modding skins since for ever.
    Nobody minds you personal modding a skin for your own use. It is actively encouraged. You may well become the next generation skin designer.

    But wars can be started if you copy and publically release someone elses skin that is just a mod of the orginal to the public.

    By all means you can use it as a base and a reference, but make it your own if releasing it as a new skin.
    The originally skinner would have spent many months on layouts, creating the graphics and tweaking to get the final result. To just tweak it and call it your own is not the done thing.
    Permission off the original author and acknowledgements required in that scenario.

    amazing work!, wondering what image you use for your skins, i`m running openspa, works fine for the most part, except for the home menu and channel selection screens, if you can have a look, it`d be a huge favor, otherwise thx so much for everything you do.

    #Kamaxx

    can you share you mod, i`d love to try.

    Dear Friend;

    I will be apply your instructions asap

    You exactly right about fake skins nowadays.

    *****

    I added user file into path /usr/share/enigma2 instead of /etc/enigma2

    But I will try to create a new file soon.

    Meanwhile ; Progressbar on video stayed older. (pict4)

    Could you please update ?

    I changed some parameters with notepad++

    Okey if KiddaC says yes.

    what image you currently use?, i`m almost positive that kiddac doesn`t mind as long as the mod is kept for personnal use, so i`m hoping and looking forward to it as long as you don`t mind as well.

    thank you so much.
