  • Hi guys,

first of all apologies if I am posting this in the wrong section . Mods, please move this thread to the relevant section if I have done it wrong.

Can one of you wonderful people help me with this ->

I bought a VU+ solo last week and almost finished configuring it to be able to watch Freesat HD (thanks especially to MusoGeek, TenBelow and Cazuela for this).

I would like to watch EPL matches (broadcasted FTA around Europe) and was wondering what is the best set up with regards to what sort of a dish I need (motorised or fixed with multiple LNBs), how big, what satellites should I be looking for, etc?

I have been ringing up a few satellite dish installers in my area and everyone is asking - "what (or how many) satellites are you trying to pick up?" - before they would give out a quote.

I have also read about a set-up with "a viaacess emu with a al-jazeera card"?? I didn't quite understand how it works. If someone can shed any light on it, that would be great.

    Thank you :scarf2:

  • Hi wabbitsquash,

The best setup to be able to pick up different sats is a motorised system, which your vu solo is more than capable of working with.To be able to get a good selection the best option is to go for a dish of at least 1m,bigger if you can and if your budget allows.

At the minute on my own setup i can receive 28/26/23.5/19/16/13/4.8 E & 1/5/30 W this is using a motor with a 1.1m dish.

Our forum sponser has some really good deals for a motorised setup at the min, take a look here:Sat-Shop.co.uk - Sat-Shop.co.uk Online Satellite and Electronics Store from Lavatronics

Ideally you want to position your setup on a south facing wall, which then gives you hopefully a lot of options for east & west sats.

Just to give you a idea of what some of the different sats will provide you with are 28e sly sports uk,23.5e sly sports Italy,19e sly sports Germany,16e Tring sports,13e Al jazeera sports, 1w Barclays premier league.

Unfortunately these are not FTA,i think you will find it very difficult to find games being shown that do not require a sub to watch. But maybe you should do a bit of reading here;Forum Gateway - Powered by DnP Firewall to see what option are open to you regarding how to be able to view these channels.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Mckee25,

many thanks for providing this helpful info.

As you suggested, I will go through the cardsharing section to see what I can up.

Can I ask you what according to you is the cheapest way to subscribe to any of those channels you mentioned above?

    Thnaks again.

  • I would think out of all the one's i listed bud that the Al jazeera sports would be the cheapest (local/sub) card for a years viewing.

  • Thanks Mckee25.

I looked through the list of football leagues that are broadcast on Al jazeera and discovered that EPL is not covered :-( . So, Al jazeera is not an option.

I have been looking around for other options and read in another forum that a Tring card might be a viable option.

can you please tell me if tuning to 16E and just inserting a Tring card in Vu+ solo is all that will be requried? Or wiil I need to buy a Conax CAM to be able to read the card?

    Thank you.

You need to do a couple of other things too buddy, your Vu solo already has a card reader built in so why not use it,no need to go to more expense with a Conax cam.

Here is a link for you; http://linuxsat-support.com/os…-1-3-tring-conax-ipk.html

Have a look at this,if you were to install this ipk file then your would have CCCam installed & also Oscam,Oscam will read the card for you and the CCcam will allow you to view the Tring channels for which your card is for.

One thing to be weary of with Tring though, occasionally you might be looking at a black screen for 3pm games,it has happened before.

  • tring is not showing 3pm games it shows most games before and after. a cyfra card (polish) on 13e shows prem league and sat bg on 23e (bulgarian) are good options .also if u got your self a card your vu solo is capable of doing so much more and you would prob get most games through the power of sharing like mackee says have a good read through an dont be afraid or feel silly to ask we all started somewhere

  • Hi Mckee25/Gav99,

thank you for your kind advice :-)

I checked out sat-shop.co.uk and found a motorised dish pack that I quite liked. I called around a few sat dish installers in my area, but none of them were willing to install a motorised dish :-( !! I am quite impressed by the motorised setup, but since I can't seem to find anyone to install it, I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do.

With regards to a sat card, I think I will most probably go down the route of getting a Tring card. Once I set it up, how do I go about finding someone who is willing to share their card in return for mine? Is there is a separate section on here where people looking to cardshare convene?

    Thanks again guys.

  • hi, if you have card for sharing , and motorised dishs you can have somes games 3 pm but maybe not comentary en glish ..

  • there is a vip section on here with great benefits once u have your card up and running . u can check out what cards other members have .as for installers i live in manchester and there are a few installers and shops that will do it .or maybe ask in your local if they show 3pm football im sure they will be able to help

  • Hello bud,

Would you be able to give installing a motorised setup a go yourself?? there are some great tutorials on here for doing it,takes a lot of patience but well worth it!

Cant believe that no installers will take this on for you, thought they would jump at the chance!

  • Hi Guys,

I just have just signed up to become a VIP member :-)

I live in Ipswich and seems like the local dish installers are a bit reluctant to install a motorised dish. I called 6 tradesmen and each one said "no"!! I was finally able to talk to two companies (who seems to operate nationwide) who were willing to install a motorised dish and they quoted me £395 and £425 respectively (with a dish and motor included. Or, about £250 just for installation)!!!! Given that sat-shop are selling a motorised dish package for no more than £135, the price quoted by the installer sounds a bit too much. What do you guys think?

A couple of tradesmen I spoke to asked me if would consider a fixed dish with muti LNBs? That sounds ok, but not as impressive as the motorised setup i think.

I wish I could install it myself, but I live in a block on flats and I have a kind of a phobia for DIY :-)

Thank again for all your kind advise. Much appreciated.

  • Any friends or Family that know or work with anyone in the dreaded SLY lol

We all like a bit of Cash in Hand an i'm sure they are no different lol!

If you see one parked up perhaps ask the question!

Many members have installed themselves and there are quick guides on here....but appreciate your reluctance!

I would of thought the goods + £100/£150 should/would be ample....i'm sure he wouldn't be up there longer than an hour!

    Shame your that far away!

  • most installers will want about £150 minimum i'd say ¬ after all a good one will leave the you up and running with years of pleasure to come - its not really expensive when you consider how much time they may have spent perfecting the art of a "motorised install" - As you have found out yourself,Many so called PROFESIONAL installers run a mile when Motors are mentioned !
Listen to mckee ¬ Its not that difficult if you can follow instructions although some specialist equipment is required starting with a decent hammer drill !
PM me and i will give you a link to an installer in your area who i know of if you like !

Buy your own equipment and get someone to install will be the most sensible option financially - shame your so far from me here in Devon or i'd offer myself !

The box you have is capable of everything you could possibly want to do with it ! Just get yourself a decent signal/dish set up and the rest will fall into place !
