DynDNS Plugin Problem

  • Hi Guys,

I don't have a static IP so I've downloaded the DynDNS plugin for my VU+ Duo and created a Dyn alias address. I've entered my details into the plugin (at least I think I have) but it doesn't appear to be doing anything as far as I can see.

I purposely entered wrong IP address for my alias address on the Dyn website with the hope that the plugin would update it for me, but it has hasn't.

Please help, any ideas where I'm going wrong? I'm really at my wits end with this one! :( lol

  • Can i ask why you don't just use a static ip on the duo itself and portforward that ip and port via your router

  • Sorry to sound a little dumb mate but I didn't realise the box had a static IP address. That great news if it does. How do I find out what it is?

I take it the box has a built in DNS or something then?

  • ON vix not sure about bh as i dont use it anyway you go to setup, network, device setup, adapter settings, use dhcp set to NO then input the ip address you want ie 192.168.1.40 for example then press and press ok.Put that ip in your the portforwarding section on your router along with the port and your done your dydns ip will be your external ip that the world can see.

  • Thanks for the advice mate, I've set that all up. I take that my external IP will no longer change?

I've got a Slingbox and want to be able to use the Open Webif interface to control the box remotely while at work or staying away. It all works fine, it's just really annoying when my IP changes.

Also, would the current external IP now remain the same if the box lost power for a while or was restarted?

  • whichever internal IP you have left in the stb that will remain no matter how many times you restart,,
as long as you have DHCP inactive..
this will only change if you change image or the likes..
External IPs are usually dynamic so of course it will change but then thats the reason for having a dyndns or no-ip host for eample..

  • Right ok, well I'm trying to set up the DynDNS plugin for my VU Duo so when my IP changes the box can tell dyndns.com to avoid a disruption to my service. That's what I'm struggling with.

Any ideas where I could find a tutorial on this?
