With homeplugs I think you're best sticking with the same make and speed to ensure compatibility. I had a couple of the black 85MBPS PE85's and checked compatibility with the newer white PE85 MK2.

not really. as long as the speeds are the same so you cant use a 200 mbps plug and a 85 mbps it would have to be 2 x 85 mbps or 2 x 200 mbps

u need same model/brand unless your lucky otherwise they won't sync correctly.

Extract from HERE
The HomePlug Powerline Alliance is a group of electronics manufacturers, service providers, and retailers that establishes standards for, and tests members' devices for compliance to, the various power line communication technologies known as HomePlug.
The alliance has developed several different standards that support broadband applications such as in-home distribution of TV, gaming, broadband Internet and other content. It also developed a high-reliability, low-power and extended temperature specification to support smart power meters and in-home communications between electric systems and appliances. The alliance tests for interoperability and certifies products based on the HomePlug specification and the IEEE 1901 powerline standard. The organization has 69 members and has certified over 200 products.Suggests that same spec plugs are compatable with each other.
