  • Afternoon chaps
ok bought a dyns account thinking I didn't have to log every time my IP changed but I just checked now and its now changed again so I had to put receiver IP in again
anyone know why and what to change to stop it from happening

    PS
I bought a VIP account if that changes any thing
    Cheers

  • Taking the VIP option as far as i'm aware just means that you don't have to log in to your account online...

What you do need to do (if your router doesn't do it for you) is install dyndns updater on your lappy or pc and this will update when your isp changes your ip addy.

  • Most routers will have the option of setting up your dns host account so it updates automatically..
    here´s an example:

    Code
    DHCP ENABLED : yes
Start of IP address range: 192.168.1.1
End of IP address range: 192.168.1.60
List of reserved IP addresses :192.168.1.30

you can also set up your dns host account on your stb depeding on stb and image..
otherwise download the dyn updater tray to your desktop and set it up there

  • The updater should only show your ip which is provided by your isp... If the ip of the box your running your server from is changing then this is something different all together. You would need to set the ip addy allocated to your box in your internal network so that it becomes static, you should be able to do this through the router.

  • @McKee
ok bud I have IP of box that's the same doesn't change
    updater does show my ISP
now if I goto the dyns home page and log in
and I goto services the page says something like this

    Hostname:
    xxxxxxxxxxxxx.dyndns.xxxx.com
    Wildcard:
    create "*.xxxxxxxxxxxx.dyndns-xxx.com" alias
(for example to use same settings for www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.dyndns-xxx.com)
    Service Type:

Host with IP address ....My BOX IP

    WebHop Redirect (URL forwarding service)
    Offline Hostname

    IP Address:

Your current location's IP address is xx.xx.xxx.xxx

    IPv6 Address (optional):
TTL value is 60 seconds. Edit TTL..
    Mail Routing:
I have mail server with another name and would like to add MX hostname...

sorry if it doesn't make sense bud

  • Yep that's what it should look like, but in the options for service type if I select "Host with ip address" that's all I can do.... it doesn't show the ip of my box...

Below that where you have "IP address" if this is different to the "your current location's ip is xx xxx xxx xx" click on the current location ip and this will change the box above to make it the same. Then click on save changes at the bottom....
