hi all new to this so a bit wet behind the ears,im looking to setup a satellite system but unsure where to start.Ive got ****** media at the moment(basic package) but thinking of getting rid of it.What i would like to know is what system would i need to get pretty much the channels i get now ie kids channels fox hd,*** atlantic hd and so on and maybe movies and sports.Any advice would be most helpful i live in west sussex uk.Ive been given a 1m dish by a friend and have got an old original dm500s which i dont know how to use but would rather a reciever that my mrs can use easily ie a decent epg and to be able to record one program while watching another if thats possible any advice will be helpful.
advice needed please

Are you looking to get just UK channels or are you wanting to motorise that 1m dish for foreign sats also?
-
hi thanks for reply was thinking of getting a motor for the dish would like to recieve as many channels as possible.
-
In that case, a little info for you regarding this hobby...
Typically you will need a package of your own to share, weather it is a uk viewing card, a spanish card, italian card etc...... you will need a card of some description which you can setup and exchange with others who in turn will share their packages with you
On top of that, you will need a decent motor to drive the dish, our sponsor sells a quality Technomate motor for around £40 and a decent lnb perhaps inverto black ultra will set you back about £10 - £15
You will of course need a decent receiver and not forgetting brackets for the instalation
-
Your biggest issue is going to be getting a subscription or a share rather than box selection and to put it blunt and honest youll find payservers very easy to find on a well known auction site but , if this is the route you take you wont get help here with that , so to be honest thats the first big hurdle , however there is always someone willing to help someone with a line to view once you are known and have made an attempt to to things the right way , there are also prepaid foreign cards you can get and share to get going , not being funny at all with this post but its not the easiest time to be getting on the bus
-
ok i think i understand where your coming from but want to get on that bus.

Nearly all hd channels on 28.2 cannot be shared at the moment either, only the sd ones. -

im not overly fussed about hd,as long as its possible to get these channels cheers

Possible alright but is going to cost you initially (package to share and a decent receiver/server)
Have a look at our sponsors site regarding the hardware (receivers / dish / motors etc..)

See what takes your fancy.Maybe some of these threads are worth a read also regarding what satellite equipment is being used / recommended:

It's also worth remembering that this is a hobby and what we have access to can change at any time so you need to understand that what you might want to view may not be available to you in the future.
Just so you understand the way it is before you go on a spending spree.

wow looks like i have some serious homework to do -
Looks daunting at the start but it isn't difficult at all.
-
still unsure what reciever to buy dont really want to spend £100s on one in case i dont get on with it so looking at a decent entry level one if that makes sense
-
Normally I only take into account 3 factors when buying a receiver.
1 Budget.
2 How many tuners i require (record one channel/ watch another etc)
3 Support for receivers that fit into the first two categoriesHope this helps.
-
ok im going to do a bit of research

tm2600 motor is the best one i recon you have the dish you just need a t&k bracket to keep it away from the wall so it turns ok £70 for both there abouts get going and when you are.pm me for a line to get you going and look at cards from there dont splash out too much and if you buy a box make sure its something that will retain its value if things go wrong with red cards
-
It's going to cost you money scooby, you want a box that's well supported. I've had a few clones but there not a patch on my Vu solo 2 genuine receiver, there's lots of support on here pal. I only set up my first motorised dish/server a few months ago, couldn't have done it without the help on here but a few months down the line and I'm like a seasoned pro:36_002: I may be exaggerating the seasoned pro bit
