Should be able to alright.
Need to initialize and/or format it after you insert it in the duo2 which will erase everything on it.

Will need to set up pc again, operating system etc.
I think there is software out there that will clone a hdd.
It will be quicker to try and clone your 1tb drive onto your 500gb (if that can be done) so as to avoid setting your pc all over again, before you wipe it in your duo2.
Google may help with it.
