“SkyQ” could be just weeks away from your living room, according to The Telegraph, and will reportedly allow viewers to watch or record at least four programmes at once. We’re not quite sure how you go about watching four programmes at once, but it would be nice to have the option, especially given the 4K quality.
Because of the viewing shift to smaller screens, Sky will also offer broadcasts on mobile and tablets, much like the EE TV box.
Reports say Sky’s new Ultra-HD set-top box was initially scheduled for release next year, but with their rivals BT already making ground on Sky with football coverage, they appear to have made a decision to speed it up.
They may already have one advantage over BT even before the launch though, with BT executives acknowledging the YouView technology they use for their pay-TV service is out of date. Sky are hoping they’ll have the technological advantage of a more user-friendly interface, which is reported to look like Netflix or Apple TV.
We suspect we’ll see a bit more from Sky regarding SkyQ as the Premier League season gets a bit closer. They’re definitely not ones to miss a marketing opportunity. what happens next
