play large video files from usb

hi,
i have a 16gb usb stick and i've tried to watch some videos from it on the receiver but i couldnt figure out how to set it up .
when i initialise the usb by the receiver ,then the pc doesnt recognise it ,for this reason i had to format it (default ntfs) to allows for over 4gb file transfer . but this doesnt work with the receiver and the receiver doesnt see it .i think fat or exfat format worked ,but then i cant put anything bigger than 4gb in the usb !
is there a way to make this work ,watch over 4gb videos from the usb in the receiver ?

i'll try to format using one of the extensions you mentioned, i was thinking it is much quicker to transfer files from pc usb3 to usb stick than ftp to the receiver but i'll test that again .
