Either wrong firmware / channel list or a bad flash will cause this error.
To fix it, you'll need an rs232 null modem cable (You may be able to get an rs232 to 3.5 null modem cable as your 52e doesn't have an rs232 port on the rear, only a 3.5 jack as far as I know)
Google will help here.
Looks something like this:

Then download the erom upgrade tool and official firmware which can be got from here:Quote
Lastly, follow this guide -
yes i have all off this but still saying ash after upgrading
-
Does it complete the flashing of the original firmware?

You could try an older original firmware from here:

I have found a few alternative (original) firmware files for you to try.
I'd recommend also trying a different lead (if you have one) and/or a different pc.
Also worth noting is the rs232 port.
If your using a usb to rs232 adapter, some will not function correctly, better with an old pc with native rs232 port or alternatively , a pcmcia to rs232 adapter (they work for me)

Hi diden, did you resolve the issue with the ash on the 52e? Only I have one which even though there was no bin file error once the upgrade was complete came back as ash? Thanks Martin
