Media playback on ALL E2 boxes is controlled by the drivers and hardware, there are no codec's you can add, try re-encoding the file, thats the only way forward.

I have reflashed my box and removed most plugins but it still crashes, the latest was when i press green to download plugins, somethings not right at the moment.

you can also send logs to us directly from the receiver using the inbuilt logs manager. rather than faffing about uploading them to the forum.

    Please note.

The Image feeds have temporarily been set to unstable while we investigate a issue with the Vu+ Ultimo which has resulted in at lease one case of a bootloop, although this has not been observed or reported on any other receiver, so please make a backup first.

    EDIT.
If you have a Ultimo to hand or any other receiver that suffers a bootloop as a result of build 019, we would very much appreciate a bootlog.

Channel 4 chairman Lord Burns has said the BBC should encrypt the iPlayer for licence fee payers only as a first step towards subscription, with the licence fee unsustainable in the long term.

Burns criticised the BBC for being too wedded to the £145.50 licence fee and said it had ignored alternative forms of funding such as subscription – or “conditional access” – because it could “get away with it”.

Burns was speaking after BBC director general Tony Hall outlined his vision for the future of the BBC, saying he had “real confidence in the licence fee. Whatever reform people come up with, they need to answer that question, is there a better way [of funding it] than that 40p a day? I don’t think there is.”

But Burns said political downward pressure on the level of the licence fee meant it was unsustainable in the long term. He said the BBC should begin to look at alternative methods of funding, beginning with the iPlayer.

“You can either say you can only watch the iPlayer if you have a licence fee, or you can watch the iPlayer without a licence fee if you pay some money,” said Burns, speaking at the Future of the Licence Fee event in London.

“This is the first big opportunity to move towards conditional access – no pay, no play – but they won’t even think about it because they think it is the first step towards subscription. They will not even think about it because they are so wedded to the licence fee.

“All the young people who are watching on their computers [without a licence fee] and don’t realise they are breaking the law, these are the first people who are showing us what is going to happen. The BBC have said they want the iPlayer to be at the centre of the future. Down the road, later in life, everything will be Internet based.”

The BBC has resisted any moves towards subscription, saying it would cost £500 million to implement and would lead to “first and second class” licence fee payers.

But Burns, who oversaw a review of the BBC’s governance a decade ago as an adviser to the then culture secretary Tessa Jowell, said: “The licence fee is effectively a tax … and I am very pessimistic about the ability of the BBC to fund itself long term through a tax. I think the political process is just too difficult.”

As has been said multiple times, the amount of RAM in use will always be at around 95 percent or higher, this is because Linux considers free memory as wasted and will always use as much as possible, freeing portions up as and when needed, it's the flash storage you need to keep a eye on especially on receivers like the solo and duo as even a relatively low amount of plugins can eat up this very quickly.

just checking on my vu duo that the ram in use is at 95% is this right or can i do something to get this down, thanks

Thats perfectly normal and nothing to be worried about, Linux uses memory very differently to windows in that it considers unused memory as wasted and will always use as much as possible, freeing up portions as and when required by other processes.

That said the Duo is a relatively old receiver now so best not to clog it up with unneeded and unused plugins.

    Please note.

Due to an OE-Alliance issue we're very sorry to have to advise that Apollo Build 015 once again require's a flash and settings backup restore. We fully understand and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but this is a matter not of our making and out of our hands.

Also be aware that Images for, Venton, Miraclebox or GI XPEED, Have undergone a Linux kernel and driver update.

Apollo Build 015, all user please read. Re-Flash required
    All ViX users,

Due to an OE-Alliance issue we're very sorry to have to advise that Apollo Build 015 once again require's a flash and settings backup restore. Build 015 will be released shortly apart from Venton, Miraclebox and GI XPEED images.

If you have a Venton, Miraclebox or GI XPEED please be paitient and allow us sometime to test as there's been driver and Linux Kernel updates, we need to do some basic testing before releasing build 015+ for these brands. Hopefully will not be too long.

    Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Two main possibilities.

    1. The image is performing a check disk on the HDD at bootup although there would be no reason why it would do this every single time it boots up, creating a bootlog will tell you for sure.
    2. The capacitor you replaced caused more damage to the receiver before you had a chance to replace it, This is the most likely of the two possibilities in my opinion, if this is the case power cycling the receiver will cause more severe and possibly permanent damage.

The box is a vu duo clone, and a friend bought it from a site where he got his. He set everything up for me originally , but he's out of the country at the moment , hence being on here trying to resolve my update issue

well thats why its not working then as we dont write images for clones, nor does this forum offer support for Vu+ clones.

If your TV is a sony bravia you may have to bite the bullet and disable HDMI CEC from the TV end all together as this particular model for some reason is a bloody nightmare with all images, constantly pulling up menus even when no one has touched the remote control. There are several threads about this and several of the beta testers have had issues with these TV's.

Please note that build 013 and 014 require a reflash and can not be updated online, we understand and appreciate this may inconvenience some of our users but it is necessary to maintain image stability.

You can reflash with either a USB stick or use the inbuilt image manager and you can still use a settings backup from a previous Apollo series OpenViX image
