I see what you're saying but yesterday a lack of RAM caused my box to loose its USB swap file, not download EPG, crash everytime I tried to use BH speed up to disable unused plugins and generally be painully slow when changing channels etc etc.

Since using the telnet commands all the problems have not reoccured

well if it works for you then great but also consider this, The Duo is a satellite receiver and not a all singing and dancing media center added to that it's starting to get on a bit, so be carefull what plugins you install. personally i have two Duo's running the Latest ViX image, one thats over two years old and another thats a little younger and neither ever gives me issues with memory, but on these boxes i use very few plugins, such as CCcam 2.2.1, OE-Alliance OnDemand and AutoBouquetsMaker and thats about it.

Thats perfectly normal usage for a linux system.

Linux works differently than windows, in such a way as it considers unused memory as wasted, Linux will ALWAYS use as much as possible only releasing portions when requested by programs etc.

as for using so called memory freeing programs or cache flushing, thats a very temporary measure and frankly of no benefit unless your box is suffering issues such as freezing up.

The European Audiovisual Observatory has just taken stock of on-demand audiovisual services and has published the data in the MAVISE database – which has now been expanded to cover on-demand audiovisual services in Europe.

In May 2013, the database identified 3,087 on-demand audiovisual services: catch-up TV services, newspapers’ video services and various kinds of VoD services (general-interest, films, TV fiction, music, animation and children’s or adult programmes) and various economic models (financed by advertising, pay per view, direct subscription, services included in a subscription to digital packages, services from public broadcasters). 2,733 services established in the European Union were identified, 447 of them film VoD services (or 18 per cent of the total available), 44 were trailer services (not including distributors’ promotional websites) and 10 were film archive services.

According to the Observatory, it appears only natural that the big countries should have a large number of film VoD services: 48 are established in the UK, 34 in France and 33 in Germany. Four countries have a relatively large number of services compared to their size. Three of these, Luxembourg (86), Sweden (36) and the Czech Republic (31) are very clearly countries of establishment of services targeting other countries. Luxembourg hosts the iTunes Stores that are operated by iTunes S.à.r.l. and target not only other European countries (apart from Romania) but also many countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia (with the exception of Japan). Netflix, which provides services for the UK and the Nordic countries and has announced the continuation of its European rollout, is also established in the Grand Duchy. In addition, the following are established in Luxembourg: the Xbox Video platforms operated by Microsoft Luxembourg S.à.r.l., which are available in 15 countries and are not considered VoD services but as catalogue distribution platforms, most being American and each regarded as a separate service. Sweden hosts various services that target the Nordic countries (SF Anytime, Canal+ Digital, CDON, Headweb, Filmnet,…) and even a service targeting Spain. The Czech Republic hosts various language versions of HBO OD, which targets Central Europe. The Netherlands is characterised by a multiplicity of small online VoD services and a few cable or IPTV platform services.

The Observatory also suggests it is important to note the large number of services established or assumed to be established in the US. Services available in various language versions, such as Google Play Movies, YouTube Movies, MUBI or Eurochannel, clearly point to providers established in the United States. Of the 53 subscription VoD services (four of them film services) launched by YouTube in the US in early May, 29 are available in Europe and charged in Euros. However the question of the country of establishment is less clear in the case of the major film studios, the services of which are available in particular on Xbox Video: as no information has been supplied, we have assumed that they are established in the United States. In all, the MAVISE database listed 207 services in May 2013 (including 123 film services) established or probably established in the United States and explicitly targeting one or more European markets. Established in Switzerland, the Acetrax services (which were bought by B***B in 2012) and Viewster (a partially free VoD service that has been successful in the United States and the UK in the last few months) also target various EU countries.

The Observatory also points out that 417, or 45.3 per cent, of the 920 VoD services in the database (all countries and types combined) are operated by American groups, either from the United States or via subsidiaries in Europe.

The Observatory estimates that in the European Union over 52 per cent of the VoD services available in one country are established in another. This development in the cross-border provision of on-demand audiovisual services, which is especially pronounced in the case of film VoD services, might make it difficult to implement measures laid down by the most stringent national regulations for the promotion of European works or for contributing to production funding.

There are an increasing number of multi-platform services (fixed or mobile internet, cable, IPTV, sometimes digital terrestrial). More and more film VoD services are also available in the form of applications for tablets or smart TVs.

Subscription VoD (Sod) services have proliferated in the last few months, and 76 have been identified. This model, which was initially employed for some types of special-interest services (especially children’s services), has been developed with the launch of film subscription services. Many pay film channels also offer catch-up services, which are included in the subscription price and are increasingly accessible on tablets or smartphones.

Depending on the image your using ou can also download them directly from the images own feeds, for example ViX hosts several dozen popular and always upto date bouquet packs on its feeds.

as pointed out thats the image update notification, basically telling you there are updates available for your image.

Green means the updates are classified as stable and safe to use.
Red means that the updates are classified as unstable, This does not necessarily mean that there is any thing to worry about, just that the updates available may not have been tested as thoroughly as we would like. It's also worth pointing out that by default we set every update to unstable first until we are happy that it can be set to stable.

You can set the update notification to only show when stable updates are available or even turn it off all together if you want to.

Video enhancement takes a lot of different names with different manufacturers, most of the time these enhancements are only there to pull in customers by pumping out big bright colours in the shop, in the home environment they tend to cause more issues than they solve.

you could try a different image to see if that makes a difference, although images with the same drivers will have virtually no noticeable difference as it's the drivers them selves that control PQ in the image.

To be honest it's about time some one came along with the balls to square upto murdocks monopoly in pay tv for the UK. This is a win win for all UK Pay tv viewers and hopefully will result in lower prices if they want to keep our custom.

A flawless lift-off and a 9 hour launch process onboard a Proton-Breeze M rocket saw the successful launch of a new Eutelsat satellite to the 3 degrees East position.

The satellite is built by Thales Alenia Space and lift-off from the Baikonur launch site took place on May 14th at 16.02 GMT. Some 12 hours after launch a partial deployment of the satellite’s solar panels took place while the craft was in its transfer orbit.

The Proton rocket system is managed by International Launch Services (ILS) and ILS confirmed that Eutelsat had signed a new launch contract for use in the 2014-2016, and would be the eighth satellite contracted for launch with ILS over the past 13 years.

Eutelsat 3D will come into use during June but will only be at 3 degrees East until 2014 when the launch of Eutelsat 3B will take over duties at the location. Eutelsat 3D will then be moved to the 7 degrees East location. For the time being Eutelsat 3D will serve customers in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia through a configuration of Ku and Ka transponders connected to three footprints. A fourth service area in the Ku-band is targeting markets in sub-Saharan Africa.

B***B now faces a more aggressive challenge from BT Sport than at least one analyst had anticipated. BT Sport will be made available free to BT’s broadband and ADSL customers, and thus has “laid down the gauntlet to B***B, which has been steadily growing market share, primarily in ADSL,” according to Sara Simon, media analyst at Berenberg Bank.

A report to clients from the bank says that while “B***B argues that BT’s pricing is not sufficiently attractive to persuade its triple-play customers to switch, its analysis ignores the fact that 20-25 per cent of B***B’s sports customers take ESPN and may thus want the BT channels. For these people, the price equation is attractive. Meanwhile, large audiences for free to air football suggest that there may be demand among B***B’s basic tier customers, and those who just take broadband. Overall, we consider 15 per cent of B***B’s customer base to be vulnerable to this new offer.”

Simon says that the free BT Sport offering will also cut the amount of churn from BT’s broadband customers to B***B. “With virtually no growth in the subscription TV business, B***B’s growth depends largely on expansion in telecoms. With a strong BT counter-offer from August 1st, we think B***B will see slower growth in this key area, and more difficulty in offsetting cost inflation.”

One benefit from all these changes is that it is unlikely that B***B will raise prices this coming September. “As well as putting pressure on B***B’s volume growth, we think BT’s strategy will make it difficult for B***B to increase prices in September, although this appears to be assumed by consensus. BT has introduced a new low price point for fibre, and is giving away premium content for free. In this scenario, how can B***B justify increasing prices when it has less in the way of rights than it had before?”

Meanwhile, the Financial Times has reported that B***B is cutting prices by up to 30 per cent for its pub and club “super premium” subscribers.

B***B is undoubtedly fighting back, and the UK press is awash with reminders to the public of the strength of ***’s offering, and quality of service. B***B is also arguing that BT’s various offers are not that appealing. Simon has analysed the B***B arguments, and comes to the conclusion that around 15 per cent of *** subscribers could find BT’s offer appealing, and moreover will create churn and impact ***’s potential to raise prices. She warns that the market could see a slew of special offers from *** between now and August 1st (when BT Sport goes live) in an attempt to keep subscribers loyal to B***B.

The bank’s final summary is not helpful to ***. “B***B deservedly trades on a high rating today, because the market regards it as being able to consistently deliver better-than-expected results. If that trend is broken, as we believe is likely in 2014, when the company faces pricing, volume and cost pressures, we believe that multiple contraction is possible, coupled with downgrades to estimates. We retain our Sell rating, and lift our price target to 685p.”

I know this wont help you but HD Glass is another "Dirty plugin" by this i mean it's akin to TSpanel in that it overwrites system files as part of it's install which causes problems and makes it impossible to remove without a image flash. This is why i stopped using it well over a year ago.

The following Tutorial aims to show you how to setup CrossEPG for sly uk with ViX 3.0 ( ALL Supported receivers ) in a easy to follow and understand tutorial, to read this tutorial you must have a .pdf reader installed. I recommend the following Free .PDF reader as it is what i use my self.
