Iame,
It probably easier bud to explain what problems you may be experiencing?
I don't think there is a Hands On Manual that will explain the ins and outs e.t.c bearing in mind its not corporate or money backed so to speak!
If you hover over the headings (idle, Ok e.t.c) you should see a caption of what they mean to answer that specific question!
But i haven't touched mine for months apart from restarting and updating certain files like whitelist for example (normally issues are flagged in forum when they need to be changed lol), i find if its doing what you wish then leave it and enjoy some TV or perhaps setup a few other experiments!
If you are experiencing problems post what they are and we will get you sorted!
Are you only getting the problem when you reboot server?
I have a smargo and had a similar problem when i restart server (not Oscam)
It seemed to be that the server would re-allocate the USB ports hence on restart the ID changed?
Have you got a powered Hub...i have found that with the USB hub anytime i restart server it seems to keep Smargo connected?
If you restart Oscam in the Webif it should keep your reader connected! I don't really find the need to restart my server and only do it when i can't remember the last time it was done lol
Are you sure they are installing?
You should get a Dos like screen with something like
'downloading files'
'writing them to ......'
'installation complete' Restart GUI e.t.c
Anything like that happening?
What plugins are you trying to install?
When you install does it confirm installation?
If your using/trying different versions you need to delete the prior stuff....both through box and double check folders and files are deleted from /plugins folder just in case...then try another file?
You may find some plugins or versions are not compatible with the Newer images? They will install and show up in plugins folder on box but won't be available to use within image?
Hi Appsfinder,
Please pass by introductions and make a quick Intro Post please!
Then in answer to your question i havent seen it done personally but i dont think it would be a problem?
You would need to put a Linux OS on the mac....i located some info below
h**p://www.sowerbutts.com/linux-mac-mini/
Then i would assume its just a case of following the steps as per usual (say an autoscript) an install Oscam or Oscam/Cccam combined onto the Linux OS of your choice!
All you would need to do then is configure your card reader for the mac which im sure could be done!
Unless anyone else comments this could be your first Tutorial for the Forum lol, Would be an interesting read!
If you go down this route make sure you document it and post back if any problems....after of course you make an Introduction!
Cheers!
:mrgmx:
You will need to do some reading mate.....everything you need to know and ask is within the forum.....just do some digging!
A good Thread is here
http://linuxsat-support.com/ca…6-newbie-cardsharing.html
That will tell you all you need to know about Box or Pc Server and OS and Software to use!
You will not get a definitive answer as many factors may effect the answer!
Put it this way you should be fine sharing with Friends and/or Family (unless your the queen lol)
Display MoreHi There,
Thanks for this wonderful response, I am new to this as well but ve got some time on my hand so looking to explorer this hobby a little bit more.
I have a SLy card and also happen to have a VUDUO box, i ve previously had a play with the DM500 and 800 both cable and Sat.
Just looking to share some love to friends and family (to people on here as well) I love tinkering with computers and software generally just for the fun of it so I am really excited about this.
I have an HP Microserver which i currently use for media sharing etc, if i want to go down the PC route would this be okay to use considering I ve got windows on it? Or would it be easier to share using my VUDUO?
Ideally mate if you go down the PC Server route its best to use a Linux OS (Debian or Ubuntu are the Favs), you can use Windows but i won't comment as i haven't used it....i think i have seen a Tutorial on the forum but its best to use Linux!
You could look at running linux OS alongside Windows in your Microserver if you still need the functionality for media sharing e.t.c but be wary of conflicts e.t.c or alternatively if you have a old pc/laptop with a cracked screen lying around you could use that and access/setup remotely?
There are various Auto Installs Tuts that will install all the required stuff for you, then its just a case of adding you configs for your card, reader and users e.t.c
Your Vu will be able to read your card and share from there (again there are images that have all the relevent bits installed to do this) the issues are really perhaps stability and bare in mind if you do anything or anything happens to your box (Image change for example) your box/server will be out of use and unable to share so the PC Server offers more stability and is dedicated to sharing as opposed to using a VU to share and View
IF I was to go down the PC route would I be required to get a Turner card installed or not? (What are the pros and cons as you suggested above if I may ask?)
No you do not need a Tuner card but you will need a card reader (Omnikey or Smargo) to connect/read you SLY card to your server. There are configs that you use to enable it to connect to Oscam
I ve read the newbie's guide and its enlightening as well.
Your post is the most detailed yet short post I ve come across that filled in a lot of blanks for me!
Looking forward to a nice stay on here.
Thanks to all in advance.
Comments in red above
The preferred option by most is a Linux OS server setup with Oscam and/or Oscam and CCcam combined where Oscam is used to read/share or Oscam(read) & Cccam(share)
Hope it helps Bud
Come on Lads,
Although i appreciate it may be easier to converse in your native tongue....The Forum serves as a reference point for many, these steps could be useful for others so keep it all ENGLISH please
Merci lol
Right lets start from the beginning and check a few things!
Is this a Clone or Original? New out of box or old used?
Did it come with the 9pin cable and rs232 board with 9 pin connectors either end?
Did it have an image on it already if so what?
If a clone do you have a sticker on it saying 'download software from here only' something like that?
When you say you update the duo_cfe file....did it say 'reading usb' on Duo? it updates in seconds so may flash up quick?
If its a clone have you tried putting an image pre-driver update
Have a look here for info on which image is ok for clones
If its a version of Oscam it will buddy you just need to setup your config files for Oscam which is from Part 3
Just follow the steps from there for the smargo and the rest of the config files and you should be sorted!
Config files are also here but its all in the Tutorial so go through step by step and post back and let us know Forum Gateway - Powered by DnP Firewall
Everything you need to know about the Hobby is here mate....But you won't find any C lines!
If you plan to join our Hobby of sharing you will need something to share and Build Friendships with people within the Community.
A lot of us are enthusiasts that like playing with things Satellite and Linux Related! We welcome
new people to the Hobby but ask that you get in it for the right reasons!
One would be that you already have a paid subscription via a viewing card and would like to find out more about
obtaining other Sats and Channels through various ways that are all detailed in this forum!
Go through the Forum....Obtain a greater understanding of what is going on and plan your route from there!

What do you need to know mate?
Have you got a C-Line?
You can either upload it by USB or Manually add?
This should do the trick mate
http://linuxsat-support.com/li…-oscam-smargo-reader.html
Follow steps and if you have any problems post back
Cheers Bud,
What problems are you having exactly? Your unable to setup Cam? or you have problems when connected/viewing e.t.c?
Have you put the latest/different firmware on it from the Forum(look for Alibabas links/files)
If you have i would probably say given my experiences with Wifi and X3/F3 there not the best using it this way!
Someone else may offer some further advice but if i was you try the latest Firmware and if you still have problems i'd stick with Ethernet Cable!
Much better that way......works a treat? If your issues are Router > Box distance perhaps look at the Network Homeplugs! They work a treat!
Please pass by Introductions 1st Mate!
Whack an Intro Post there and im sure the Genie will Grant you that Wish!
Like Rik said this is one of those wish lists requests lol
There is a browser installed when using an Original VU Image....but it doesn't work with Iplayer :( and to date i have been unable to get a Browser on images like BH and Vix for example!
I did read a way of perhaps doing it using XMBC but haven't followed it up yet!
Have you got the 1channel plugin? You won't get EastEnders lol but a few bits on there!
Have you not got a 9pin com port on your pc/Lappy?
The serial converter is very hit and miss?
So it didn't boot up with an image on it? It should of they normally come preloaded with a image!
Nothing comes up on tv? Nothing on led screen on vu?
You may need to get 9pin com port to get it to read/write to box!
Was only pulling your leg...interesting!
Any more info? Build problems? Image problems? Dodgy Sellers?
It will be interesting to see what happens when new Duo comes out! Will Original Duos come down in price with a new model e.t.c!
lol Rami,
Kick a brother when he's down!
