As SNR increases, BER decreases (good). As SNR decreases, BER increases (bad). What we have failed to realize is that as the SNR decreases, the number of errors and the rate of errors increases. The greater numbers of errors that result from lower SNR all have to be corrected or covered by the FEC (forward error correction) algorithms – the coding and decoding of the signal.

The greater the amount of errors that need to be corrected in a bit stream, the further from the original quality will be your end result. FEC corrects or ‘diminishes’, or hides errors to the best of its ability. For it to correct errors there needs to be enough good redundant information to replace or correct the corrupted bits. In the absence of all the right stuff, FEC uses its tricks and tools to interpolate (guess) the correct information from what’s left. The more errors you have means the more guessing the FEC has to do. Every guess is one step further from the best quality available.

There are two ways to affect the signal quality or SNR. The first way is to increase signal strength. The signal quality (SNR) will be increased and the BER greatly decreased, by even a small increase in the signal strength. The second way to increase signal quality is to reduce noise. Either of these actions will result in greater signal quality and better performance, but the “biggest bang for the buck” is increased signal strength.

Don't fall for the "as long as you have lock" mentality. First maximize your signal, then pay close attention to proper installation to further preserve the signal received. Every bit of noise injected by lack of grounding, poor connections, or improper materials, robs you of just a little more of the all important signal quality.

SNR: signal noise ratio... in laymans terms the interference of the signal recieved by the lnb..
so unless you have a lot of wireless apparatus including a wireless telephone near the box connected to the lnb cable,,, doubt it..
its always a good idea to check your cable connections,quality ,etc... if it s quite old even change it for better quality..

HOW TO CREATE LCDPICONS WITH PHOTOSHOP CS5

First ,we have to prepare the logo to convert it into a lcdpicon.

Lots of logos come with colour and we have to convert them into black + white.

But then it remains as a "standard" black and grey so we have to correct with brilliance and contrast

We increase the contrast three times to darken the black and lower the brilliance without modifying white.

then we invert the letters to black.

Now we can save our work.

now we open a new file in photoshop cs5 with these measurements :
width : 132 pixels
height : 46 pixels
resolution : 72 pixels/inch
colour mode RGB -8 bits
background : transparent

Now we place the earlier prepared logo on the "canvas" and adjust the size accordingly

After that we have to change the colour mode to indexed

and again invert the image

Now we have the piconlcd ready to save and name it the channel number in png format.

ts panel only hangs??? you mean doesnt fully install for you??? or ¿doesnt connect to server???
Something else has occurred to me while re-reading your first post....
as the tuners in UNO +ULTIMOs are plug and play ¿is the tuner properly seated and fixed in place??
Through DCC, VUCC or whichever prog you use to FTP to the ultimo look in /etc/tuxbox and make sure there is a satellite.xml file there.
if there isn´t then you need one..¿ can you recieve any other sat channels?? these are just some ideas to look into..

then try another channel settings ,,you probably had sgtflipflop if the bouquets were similar to a 5ky settings ¿¿??

ts panel - addons- linuxsat_support _> channel settings _ catseye ( for example) check the dates of each one ,,after installing -restart box
thats it ,then you have all bouquets up to date ;)

it usually states service UNavailable ,,lol it means that that channel isnt transmitting on that particular freq,,you need to use an up to date channel settings like catseye ,,which we have on our ADDONS ;)
