tell you what.. after reading an incredible amount of posts regarding this box ,,,,,
try this:
stick spaze 2.2 on usb (use AZup 2.1.6 to install this FW).( not sure if this applies tothe latest firms but the end of the image name should have patch.bin otherwise it might not be recognised.
Then unplug the box from mains , stick in the usb ,plug in hte box , If it shows OPTIONS ,then FORMAT AREA 3 or 4 times ,then UPGRADE to install the image.
I hope this somehow helps,, some users write that you need to INSIST on FORMAT AREA 3 or 4 times...
If this does not get you any further ,then here is a minimanual on HOW TO:

These are the Howto steps for official FW on USB. Works in RC7, RC8, RC9,RC10..

1) Format USB-stick FAT32, and place in Azbox running E2
2) Use Azup 2.0.1 (no other)
FIRMWARE ( 0.9.5308 )
3) In azup, check 'USB', uncheck 'copy kernel'
4) Press 'Install Official FW'
5) Box comes in rescue mode after reboot, Press 'Install Official FW' again
6) Select file 'vmlinux'
7) Select file 'patch.alt' (this is 0.9.5308 fw)
8) Azup continues and several log messages appear, wait till it shows 'FW installed succesfully'
9) Wait for reboot, VFD will show this:
* USB CHECK
* RESCUE MODE?
* CHECKING
* SLEEP 15 S
* CHECKING
* USB S
* LOADING
And the official FW has started, if all goes well the settings screen will appear and azbox can be configured.
This is working 100% in my box (premium HD). Try another USB-stick when it fails.
