for what it's worth, here is what i concluded.
there is some issue with the MPEG-TS stream from the provider itself. there are some channels on mux, which are not in "NIT", making them show up with empty names. sloppy engineers at works i suppose!

hi all, multiple channels after automatic scan for DVB-C show empty channel names. the channel list shows three dots in brackets. The EPG seems to load fine. What might be the problem here?
what could be the reason behind this?
thank you
If you mean skills of the person hunting the satellite signals then I can imagine that making a difference indeed. Although the mention of "different expectations" and "variation on locations, dish setup etc." made it sound like there more to it.
Apologies if this is a basic knowledge as I'm fairly new to all this.
Most have different expectations and so much variation on locations, dish setup etc...
Thanks a bunch for the detailed reply! At an expense of going slightly off-topic, why does dish setup and location matter? A sensitive tuner should be able to receiver low quality/strength signals irrespective of other components, right? Am I missing something?
What satellites exactly? What exaclty is your satellite dish setup?
A 4 feet offset dish with Inverto Black Ultra and a 6 feet prime focus dish for C-band. Do receiver sensitivities differ too much?
Comes down to budget and what you like the look of.
Which receivers are among the best for tuner sensitivity if budget is not a problem? I plan to hunt the satellites with low signal in my area.
Is the tuner sensitivity of Zgemma H9 Twin 4K comparable to Edision OS mio 4K? I've read that OS mio's tuner is pretty good quality.
I've shortlisted following:
Amiko Viper 4K51: cheap, but no ARM quad core processor and built-in WiFi, manufacturer/community support?
Zgemma H9 Twin 4K: everything fits but, tuner sensitivity?
Edision OS mio 4K: good tuner sensitivity albeit expensive but only dual core ARM, no CI slot, unnecessary T2/C tuner
I'm inclined towards Zgemma H9 Twin 4K if tuner sensitivity is good. Final thoughts? world-of-satellite.co.uk
Look at the Boardsponsor Info there was a very good and cheap Box from Amiko HD51 about 60 Pound that is cheap and good . If you look there for a Image Pur-E2 has one
Thanks for the suggestion, it does not seem to be ARM quad core processor and built-in WiFi. I'll consider it though. How is the tuner sensitivity and image support from the manufacturer?
Most Boxes today, have all these requirements.
It is a question of preference and money, how much does one what to give out.
I have updated the OP: I do wish not spend too much, so cheaper the better!
Hello, can anyone please suggest good box with following requirements:

Does the physical switch need to be set to 'smartmouse' mode?
Why is smartreader protocol better than phoenix?
Yes, protocol 'mouse' works! This is confusing, why does a phoenix reader not work with phoenix protocol (mp35)?
Protocol 'smartreader' doesn't work:
Tried the physical switch to 'smartmouse' to no avail. Is there any thumb rule to determine phoenix/smartmouse, voltage and frequency?
Okay, rebuilt the OScam with phoenix and mp35 enabled. I'm using TBS-3102. Physical switches are set to 5V / Phoenix / 3.579 / Y5(=12MHz).
Hello,
I have added the following reader for Phoenix in the OScam server, but it does not show up in the list of readers. The device is visible at /dev/ttyUSB0. What might be the problem?
Box: Formuler F4 turbo, Image: OpenATV
Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to use a RICOH SmartCard Reader built into a laptop. Internet search tells that RICOH has not released Linux drivers, so that does not seem to be an option. How else can I get a viewing card to work with my PC? I'm trying to move away from Enigma2, hence this question.

Hello,
I'm trying to get a PC/SC card reader to work with a Windows DVB applications (DVB Dream, ProgDVB etc...). Can anyone suggest a good softcam plugin which can connect to the card reader and make use of the card?
Thanks in advance!
