Hey master G hopefully I've managed to sort this now.

Bh was still playing up and green screening so I started from scratch and installed vix

Managed to mount it and then create swap file. Previously I was mounting the HDD as media HDD and not media USB as I didn't know the difference. So set it up as USB and it allowed me to create the swap file. I then changed the recording settings to the correct paths as well.

I set the swap file to 96m as well.

    Thanks for your help

Didn't get a chance to initialize the HDD yesterday.

When I had the vix image working I had initialized the HDD. With this new bh image do I need to initialize again as this will delete all my recordings. If so is it ok to just copy the recordings onto my laptop and copy them back once the HDD is initialized.

But it brings the option up to hard reset..Switching the box off will be OK as well, what we are trying to do here is clear the memory so you can setup the mountpoint without getting a green screen..

    sorry last question on this

as i attempted to do this yesterday do i need to do anything before i try & set this up again?
do i need to clear the memory or anything?

    thanks

    for this part
Remove the HDD and do a Hard Reset ( hold power button for a few seconds, a new menu will pop up, choose Hard Reset ), when the image has loaded add the HDD, restart GUI and setup mountpoints to /media/usb..

when ive held the power button down it hasnt reset
i have then tried to go into hard reset from the menu is that ok?
what about just turning the box off??

ok so this could be the cause of my issues

i have a HDD connected which i use for recording, epg etc.

therefore should the above read /media/hdd??

i saw in the other post that if i format the hdd in the box it will create the swap file - is that correct?

issue i had last night when trying to solve this was that i couldnt get the hdd to mount
each time i went into the device manager it crashed with a green screen.

although i tried to create the file manually did it not let me activate it because the hdd may not have been mounted?

I am having some very weird issues with my solo & am wondering whether this is anything to do with swap files.
I recently installed tenbelows vix 3.0 back up image & had it working fine but the timezone was wrong. I was advised that I should install a clean copy of the latest vix 3.0 image instead. I did find that sometimes the box just completely froze up & I would have to switch it off & back on again.
I then installed the latest vix 3.0 image from scratch. This seemed to install fine.
However the box would intermittently just keep hanging. Sometimes on a restart I would get a picture, no sound & I couldn’t change the channel either so I would have to switch off & on again. This happened a number of times so I thought is the vix image just not suited to my box?
Yesterday I then installed BH 1.7.8 from scratch. Got the image working correctly.
However when going into device manager the box would crash with a green screen. Another user suggested that the swap file was too small.
I looked at the swap file manager in BH & it was 0.
So then using the below guide I proceeded to try & create the swap file.
    http://linuxsat-support.com/vu…activate-swapfile-bp.html
When I then went into the swap file manager I would see
Enable of start up – ticked
Swap file on USB – size 100m
However in the middle of the screen it would say swap file – Inactive.
When I would press the Red button to activate it did nothing.
When using the vix image I didn’t do anything with swap files, are they automatically created or did I need to create one which would’ve stopped the issues that I had?
    What should I do?
Should I stick with the BH image or go back to Vix, I think both images that I used were not the light versions. I don’t have a motorised dish either.
    Your help is appreciated
    Bart

i recently flashed the vix3.0 back up created by ten below whcih is great

I am using dreamedit 3.0.1.5 to back up my channel list & save it back to teh box

    any ideas

sorry to bump this but im so concious of doing this correctly & not screewing my image up so can someone please check

I'm now using vix 3 amd have the HDD working correctly. However I have the HDD plugged into the front port and it is mounted. If I want to disconnect the HDD and plug it into the back USB port should I do the following.

    Unmount the HDD

    Turn off the box

Plug in HDD to back USB

    Switch box back on

    Mount HDD

Is there a need to mount a HDD if it's only being used to watch movies from it. If not is it safe to just plug in while the box is on and watch away

Ok what I was doing was this.

While on I would plug in the HDD, then I would go to initialize I didn't try and mount it.

Unfortunately I wasn't even trying to install any plugin I just wanted to connect my HDD for recording and for the epg.

I think if it's possible I might have corrupted the device manager by the way I was connecting the HDD.

I don't think I turned the box off completely each time I connected and then disconnected the HDD. I def didn't mount and UNmount. If there is a sticky or guide for this pls let me know as I've looked and didn't see anything.
