Just had a telephone call from Sly, they want to upgrade my multiroom box to a brand new fancy wireless HD box for FREE.
Ive only just taken out multiroom on my old SD box since my HD box got upgraded!
Put the man off by telling him that I really didnt have the time to talk, will be calling me back later he said.
Sadly it looks like Sly are now going after SD multiroom boxes:26_002:

i read more or less the type of posts on most of the places i'm a member,
and i still cant understand why the loss of HD channels from this satellite
has everyone up in arms and in some cases getting upset that everything
has ended, what about all the other satellites? there is lots of good viewing
out there. and not as many repeated programs, how many times does anyone
need to see wheeler dealers buy and sell the same car or nick Knowles in sos
come on there's far more to this hobby than one provider.Its not really just HD channels, its the start of them creating encryption software that can be used to stop cardsharing.
If the HD remains encrypted it wont be long until they use this new system for all channels, sure it would mean free box upgrades for all but considering sly make their own boxes now the cost would be minimum, also they would likely churn some card sharing customers into sly customers.
As for the other sats we have already seen similar success with sly italia, bein sports, ****, and some others. It certainly wont be long untill all major providers are forced into locking up their subscriptions to prevent cardsharing.
Naturally if someone hacks the new HD system then its back to the drawing board for sly and the others.

the good news here is that it appears to be a case that, 1 - people are working on it 2- some are saying its partly hacked.
personally I couldnt give two hoots if a payserver has cracked it or not, im just happy that it may be possible to get my HD back without having to use that crappy spybox!

If you read up on this you will find it is going to cost too much to stop sd channels.It may well happen but not for a while because there are too many s** customers that have still got sd boxes.Unless S** give everyone free HD then it is going to carry on for the imminent future.
*** dont have to give free HD, the only thing they have to do is replace all SD boxes with HD boxes. If you have a HD box and cancel your HD subs you SD channels replace the HD channels. No Free HD needed.
It also looks like *** only care about premium channels, at the moment its only the HD and premium channels that have been paired with the HD box, all other channels such as *** One SD are still unpaired and can be shared.
Unless *** start some new campaign to replace all SD boxes in a short time frame I cant see SD going any time soon.

Can anyone confirm this for me please.
I popped my new paired sly card into the Duo today, and I noticed that all the channels were clearing except HD and premium.
Is this the norm? I Understood all channels were paired, but in my case it appears the basic package is still open.

My card is still able to share all other channels

If we stay on the same cards then I agree that SD may be available for some time. I don't believe for a second though that if the cards get replaced they will be shareable in any way, or in a way that would be easy for the hobbyist.
When the blue cards got replaced it didn't take long for the white cards to be shared but hardly anybody knew what CS was back then and it wasn't the massive problem it is today. They're blocking HD channels now on cards and receivers that are 5 yrs old, just think what they could do with bang up-to-date cards and technology.
Put it this way, if a simple card swap out was all they needed to stop CS why all the bother with changing The current encryption for HD channels?
Then you have the issue as to why they are replacing every Thomson HD box which is far superior to SD boxes!

No, I've read it on lots of forums for a couple of years now.
2014 has always been mooted as the year CS would end on *** as apparently the encryption contract with NDS states that cards must be swapped every 5 years, the last swap was in 2009.
How many times have sly swapped cards?
With SD boxes the software is limited, so even if they card swapped chances are it will be cracked if not already cracked.
HD boxes will be slys ultimate goal, But how do they get SD subscribers to change boxes without giving away free HD and covering all the costs? And even if they do swap every SD box running into millions whose to say that HD wont be cracked in the meantime making all Slys hard work futile ?

Was wondering, I'm using my Sly subscription card and I subscribe to the premium channels. When Sly have disabled all the premium channnels will all the freesat channels still work or do I need to unsubscribe from Sly for freesat channels to continue to work?
They will work regardless of what sly do, you will still get the HD channels too such as BBC1 HD and ITV HD. Simply way to see whats available to you is to pull out your sly card and see what isnt encrypted!

Was wondering why are you guys thinking that the SD will work on SD only boxes but not the SD channels on the Thompson HD boxes? Both boxes can't be upgraded so why would the non-Thompson SD work but the SD on the Thompson wouldn't?
*** kept hassling me to upgrade my thomson HD Box, they said I would start to lose HD channels.
Hey Presto the HD channels lost started to say Wrong Card. Once they have completed switching off all the other HD channels they would simply have told my card to no longer allow Any Premium Channel to decrypt, (Simply refusing my card access to those channels).
With SD boxes they cant do that unless they are prepared to offer Millions of Free HD boxes to the existing customers and do this overnight.
Eventually Sly will try to upgrade all SD customers but this will be a slow roll out because it will cost millions to do so, and if the HD boxes are cracked again it will be millions wasted for Sly.

Of course there is still the issue of those Thomson boxes selling for huge sums in Italy, someone knows something otherwise why would they be spending huge sums for a obsolete box!

Because the current SD boxes number in the millions and these boxes cant be upgraded.
If Sly want to rid of SD cardsharing they will have to replace every SD box, That is both costly and time consuming, nobody is saying it cant be done but the logistics would appear to outweigh the advantages.
But you never know, Sly may replace every SD box by the end of the year, it would be some advantagious task and in themeantime someone could crack the new HD encyrption making sly`s efforts worthless.
Its Ironic that ***`s actions are hampering those who Cardshare for non profit or just want to use a unoffical reciver but dosent really do much to deter paysevers who will just offer SD services for as long as they can.

mpeg 4 is just a codec, this should be easy to add to all open enigma 2 boxes but not closed source.
But I doubt its just a Codec problem!

I have played with satellite for over 20 years, I watch with bemusement, ***'s efforts to kill off the illegial card servers at a cost of millions, I'm legal, pay for my cards just have difficulty with slotting a *** box into a wall mounted flatscreen, all my thomson boxes are mine, many new, and I prefer the picture on my other TV's from the component output anyway. I dont want a new box with strings, I'm very happy with my Thomsons, do everthing I want. CS'ers cannot operate without access to the Internet, does not matter how clever you try to be with VPN's, at a ISP somewhere the trail will emerge, an EU 'Cease and Desist' to an ISP giving the IP and Port of the CS exit will result in the Criminals being quickly shut down , no low-life is bigger than a company. ISP's Europe wide rely on Goverment Licences to remain in business, any evidence of criminality = no licence, conectivity is not somthing you buy at the corner shop, the transit internet is in the hands of very few. All this money spent chasing shadows instead of creating a C+ option. Where am I in all this, I own my ISP business with its own duct and fibre in the ground, connecting all my datacentres and interconnecting to other peering points in 5 countries. My people get a 'Cease and Desist', we investigate where the IP went on that date and time, 'speed is essentual as the records are normally only kept for a few days but the big CS crooks dont operate from an ADSL, easy peasey. A push off a key and that crook is gone, Ahh, you say, they will only move to a country with less 'easier' control, will not do much good as we transit suppliers keep an active 'black list' that blocks access to that exit point. Biggest 'Lie' of the 21st century is that the internet is some sort of 'wild west', it is only a web of inter connected routers with equipment hung of spurs, be any IP device like a camera or an illegal card server. It is the most highly controlled and monitord 'uncontrolled' place in the world. Its size is its only protection, but identification by a unique ip address make it a very exposed place to be. I'm still annoyed that I have lost 5 HD channes on my Thomson boxes with paid for cards. *** want to persist with the two stage 'box key' fine, jus give us a box that has component outlets or even better, a C+ option with an Lan connection to allow location to be controlled. Old technology relying on dial up modems and CLI are easily, with effort and money, are circumventable, IPs are not, they can be 'cloaked' but can be traced none-the -less. Didnt say, I used to install, test and program public main telephone exchanges, System X, SPC Xbar etc have all been superseaded but legacy things like CLI have become much cheaper to alter. Exactly the same principal, trace to the exit/entry point and with co-op from the 'telco' or ISP or Network Transit Provider find the thief.

They get you in another contract this is why ,if they have been offering you the box you dont have much reason to say no , why would someone refuse a new box and 50% off , I would take it and get an sd multiroom to tide you over on cs for the time being its happening and will happen at some point so may aswell swap now , just my opinion , but its a choice you need to make

So is it worth hanging on to a SLY UK thomson box or would it be best to swap it ? Sly are offering me the 2TB Box for free if I swap my thomson and 12 months Subs with 50% discount! , felt like this was a good offer and was very strange of them, wondering if there is a reason for this? lol

With the end of CS for Sly UK looking ever more likely I have read a few posts on various sites that mention plenty of FTA English speaking channels on other Sats.
I have looked to see whats available and apart from BBC News or Sly News International I havent had much luck.
Thought it may be useful and helpful for myself and others to share what we find if such FTA English speaking channels exist, So if anyone has any informatrion please share!
