Hi people, could not find where to post this... admins, please move if appropriate.

I am trying to get my dreambox to control my TV. Stuck at the first hurdle. When I press TV, then hold down 'shift', it turns red and stays red (no two flashes). Then when I press any other button it starts flashing continuously.

When I do the same procedure, but pressing the Dream button first, I do indeed get two flashes. But as I am not interested in reprogramming it, I just exit that by pressing shift again.

Various places refer to pressing SHIFT-SETUP, are they just referring to the shift button (upper, left most button)... I have no setup button anywhere.

    Any help would be appreciated..

    Many thanks,
    PJ

hi all. problem is CCcam thats stopped working. i've tried this on a ***box and DM800SE using cccam 2.1.3 and 2.3.0. Neither work. i put it into debug mode and it prints this, but i dunno what it means. appreciate your help.

    thanks pj

But I don't want to watch eastenders... will it work for other programs? (kidding).

i've just been reading a bit more, and you are right.. auto timer has name matching functionality too.. that plugin name could have been a little more self descriptive and on the other hand, i could have read up on it a little more... let's call it one each. I'll give it a try and find something else to rant about.

Out of curiosity, i'm thinking about getting a multi tuner device... Do you know if auto timer will be able to figure out that there are enough tuners to record two things at once in that case -- anyone tried that at all?

I'm at a loss to understand why the talented developers out there aren't providing 'series link' functionality. All the data you could want is there (cross epg works a treat).. so why cant a match be carried out on the program description? What's the fascination with timers... that's so 80s .. Anyone know why this is? Am I gonna have to roll my sleaves up ;)

Many thanks for the info, guys.

So to confirm, my box will come with sim 2.1.0 and SSL 84.

If I understand your comment, the 'later' images come with the bootloader. So flashing those versions will automatically update my bootloader too, right?

My confusion is that when I see images like this one, it's in the sim 2.1.0 section of this forum (so i'm okay there).. but the image mentions 84b (when I have 84). So this does NOT mean that I require 84b before updating to this image, it just means the 84b bootloader is *bundled with* the installer -- is that right?

Sorry if that sounds like a total noob question, but I like to understand things in depth before doing anything. Sometimes maybe too much depth, but I haven't bricked any hardware yet!:)

In case it helps anyone out there, this firmware has a lot more in it than just 'HD reboot' fix. the favorites view is a heck of a lot better, as is the sat list. Finally a half usable interface (and works on SB M3 in case anyone is interested to know!)

Hello all. I am trying to figure out what I will need to know when my DB arrives. Plenty of images to choose from for the clone 800SE, but im confused about sim / BL versions and how they relate to the numerous images I see available here.

I assume that the sim is 'hardware' related and that the sim version is just set in stone (unless you replace the sim, maybe). So any image I choose should match my sim version (i.e 2.1.0).. Is that correct? Is this a purely h/w thing or is the firmware on the sum updatable too?

Then, what about the bootloader? Are they ever interchangeable? For example, I see images here for SSL84B -- what if I have SSL 84? Will this work for me, will it break my box, or should I first update the bootloader version?

Any advice/links would be very much appreciated. At the moment, I'm still trying to find my feet in the world of dreambox!:)

    Thanks.

In case it helps anyone else to know - this installed without any obvious issues on the M3.

So far i've never had network (wired/ethernet) working on my m3.. It says active and has a green circle next to it, but youtube will not work -- I assume because of no network connection. How can I find out if the box has been assigned an IP address? I'm a little lost.

    PJ

okay, so that confuses me :)

There are 'alternative firmwares' available for them, right? (You don't have to look far to find them.. :) ).. so where is the source code for those?

I appreciate that the manufacturer may not 'officially' have released the firmware sources, but surely 'somehow' there are sources out there, right? Otherwise how are these alternative firmwares being released!?

    Am I missing something fundamental?

On that note -- does anyone out there know what language these firmwares are written in, whether or not there are PC emulators for developing them available and for that matter, where the actual source code is? If we want all the best features, perhaps distributing this info would be the fastest way of getting there.

    Hi,

Does anyone know how secure cccam traffic is? I have an SB m3 I am about to flash, which I think has some (as yet unknown) version of cccam on it (at least that's what I think it has -- not much info on that firmware in this forum - just the file). I was wondering how decipherable the traffic between client and server would be to would-be snoop. Any encryption? Is this something that anyone else may be worried about?

As an aside, in case the encryption is not that strong or is none-existent, is ssh tunnelling something people tend to adopt?

I'd be interested to know your experiences/further reading on the subject.

    Cheers,

    Earthings,

I have one of these boxes on the way. If all goes well, I'll soon upgrade to a Deambox or VU+.

I notice that there are firmwares here for this box (If that's what a 'Slybox' is - still getting used to what i can and can't say!). The Firmware posted here is pretty new, but not accompanied by any help or a list of features. Also it does not have a specific 'name' so it's not easy to find other documentation. Anyone able to offer any help / further reading about it and it's features pre chance? I.e does it (and how does it) support CCCAM etc. I've read typing 6666 at certain places, but wanted to understand if that was a feature of this particular firmware, or some other.

    Many thanks.

That seems odd -- is that the only way? my entire house is wired with a single coax line to each room... I guess I don't understand why the signal cannot be split? Can you give me some idea so i can read further? Seems odd to me :(

So, one difference between the solo and some other VU+ boxes is that the solo does not have multiple tuners. So I am trying to figure out if I want a dual tuner system or not. The only thing complicating matters is my desire to know *if* I can have a dual tuner system in the first place

So -- with two tuners, i receive two signals -- which means i can watch one and record one. My question is -- how do i get two wires to the back of the box? Can i just split the coax with some simple 'mechanical' splitter just before it get's into the box itself.. (i don't know the term -- i just mean no booster -- a physical split). Do i need two outputs from the LNB?

    Thanks.
    PJ.
