hi i have sf8008 supreme but have problem use sd card as multi boot when sd inserted i am able to see but when i go format it by enigma2-plugin-extensions-multiboot-flashonline_7.1_all when i try to format it the Help button on remote no working is faulty remote but i have macbook not able to do it that way like mini partition wizard trird couple sd card card no success any sugestion thanks in advance

    Easy my friend,

Fornat your SD card normally using plugin or enigma2 device manager.

    Then (which is very important)

Unmount the formated SD card using devices manager.

Your problem come from the fact that, enigma2 make automatic mount for your SD card once you formated it.

So your Multiboot plugin can not detect or deal with it.

Try it and let me know if you want further information.

    Regards.

Your fstab is not correct and will not give your the correct order

Please have a look on the post below

Also have a look on the attached fstab for my sf8008

    Dear Captain

    Dear OpenATV Team

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and transparent response! I truly appreciate you taking the time to explain the current challenges and technical considerations behind the update system. It's heartening to see how passionate and committed your team is despite working on this project in your spare time.

I completely understand the resource constraints you're facing - the fact that OpenATV continues to deliver such a robust platform through donations and volunteer efforts is truly impressive. The community is lucky to have such dedicated developers!

The context you shared about opkg's limitations and server costs puts everything into perspective. I am glad to know these suggestions are being considered for future discussion. The three priorities you highlighted (scheduled updates, visual indicators, and update control) would indeed make a huge difference for users.

Please know that your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. The stability and functionality OpenATV provides already far exceeds many commercial alternatives.

Wishing you all the best as you continue to improve this fantastic platform. The community is behind you!

    Warm regards,

    Mahmoud

    ---

To verify what I wrote in my previous post, I installed an old OpenATV file (version 7.2) on the Edision osmio+, and here are the results.

    1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg

I think the point is not related to the skin or image itself, it is related to your methodology.

    I am following another road

    1. Using plugin called Multiboot flashonline 7.2, which format and generate partitions.

    2. Use device manager or direct edit my fstab file to make organized and visible.

    Captain,

Software Update Enhancement Suggestions for OpenATV (Enigma2)

As a dedicated user of OpenATV and Enigma2, I would like to share some thoughtful suggestions to enhance the software update functionality. These ideas aim to improve user experience, efficiency, and customization while reducing disruptions during the update process. I hope these suggestions contribute to the ongoing improvement of this fantastic platform.

    1. Scheduled Updates

Introducing a scheduling feature for updates would greatly enhance convenience for users. Allowing updates to be scheduled based on:

    - **Time intervals** (daily, weekly, or monthly)

    - **Device events** (after reboot, during standby, or when the device is idle)

This would ensure updates occur at optimal times, minimizing disruptions to viewing or other activities.

    2. Background Updates

Implementing a background update option would allow updates to proceed silently without interrupting the user’s experience. Currently, halting all activities during updates can be frustrating, especially when users are unable to continue watching or using their devices. Background updates would make the process seamless and less intrusive.

    3. Selective Update Exclusion

Adding the ability to exclude specific items (e.g., plugins, skins, or unnecessary language packs) from updates would be highly beneficial. This would:

    - Reduce unnecessary downloads for users with limited internet speed or data plans.

    - Allow users to maintain their preferred configurations without being forced to update unused or unwanted components.

    4. Categorized Updates

Categorizing updates into clear classifications would help users prioritize and understand the nature of each update. Suggested categories include:

    - **System Updates** (critical fixes and core improvements)

    - **Recommended Updates** (important but non-critical enhancements)

    - **Optional Updates** (additional features or minor improvements)

    - **Extra Updates** (third-party plugins or non-essential items)

This structure would empower users to make informed decisions about which updates to install.

    5. Visual Update Status Notifications

Introducing a visual indicator system for update statuses would provide users with immediate clarity. For example:

    - **Green** = Up to Date

    - **Orange** = Update Available

    - **Red** = Urgent Update Required

This simple yet effective system would help users quickly assess the status of their software and components.

I deeply appreciate the hard work and dedication of the OpenATV team in delivering such a robust and reliable platform. While I understand that not all suggestions may be feasible, I hope these ideas spark meaningful discussions and contribute to the continuous evolution of OpenATV. Thank you for your outstanding efforts and commitment to the community!

I will send you the setting because I don't remember it in openatv, it almost same,

    SETUP

    SYSTEM

    AUDIO

    BASIC AUDIO SETTINGS

    AUDIO AUTO VOLUME LEVEL (disable)

I am installing 7.6 beta openatv software on my dreambox 920 device

although the country and language (Türkiye-Turkish) are selected, it often starts with English

I have not experienced this problem in previous software versions

    what is the solution

I think there are no relationship in setup procedures between the geographical location and the language of the system,

You assumed because you set turkey you should get Turkish language as primary language?

I belive this is a good idea to add primary language to the screen of set location or at least ask the user to set his primary language based on location or keep default, but what will be the case if you have multiple languages in same country?

Thank you for your detailed information and for sharing your knowledge with us. I already have a built-in Multiboot feature on my Octagon device. Recently, I was wondering why the openATV team hasn't updated their online flash utility to be more modern and flexible regarding user data transfer to a fresh installation.

I don't understand why when I update the image, and this happens both with ATV 7.5.1.and 7.6, after installing the updates it resets the GUI in a loop several times. Before it used to reset just once. This happens with three devices, they are all octagon SF8008.

Are you doing software update of flashonline with restore settings if using flashonline with restore settings what setting do you have set in software manager settings.

mode for autorestore. turbo , fast, or slow .

It's not a fresh install, it' normal updates. I am actually configuring ATV on a brand new decoder I just received today so it's the original image, I didn't flash it. I must say I have restored my settings from the other decoder, same model, and I do not use preset setting, I prefer to organize my own channels.
I wonder if it could be a plugin that I'm passing over from one STB to the other that causes those resets, but which one if so?

If you want my opinion, try using the command: opkg update && opkg upgrade. It's much better. Recently, I faced complications with the system update, which were resolved this way.

    Mount System with Fstab

What does "mount" mean in the Enigma2 system?

It’s a word that means connecting or linking your memory storage, referring to the process of attaching storage media used to install various systems. In other words, if you have an operating system like Enigma2 and want to add a hard disk (HDD) or USB drive to it, you must define the HDD or USB to the system so that it recognizes it, displays it among its contents, and can interact with it.

90% of the problems with Multiboot plugins like Barry Allen, Neutrino, and MultiBoot are caused by issues in the mounting process with storage media (such as HDDs or USBs) and the primary system through which the mount is performed.

One of the most annoying issues I’ve encountered is why the current system doesn’t recognize other systems when using a multiboot setup. For example, if you have 12 images (system installations) on your device, why don’t the files stored on the storage media appear in the currently running image?

    1.png

    2.png

Well, why would you want to see the files from other images? The truth is, the reason is simple: laziness. For instance, when an update is released for a plugin like AJPanel, instead of reinstalling it on each image separately, I just copy the updated file and paste it into the corresponding path in the other images. Then, when I switch to another image, the plugin is already updated, and the issue is resolved.

The idea isn’t just limited to plugin updates—you can transfer plugins, boot logos, skins, settings, and anything else, as long as you know what you’re doing.

    Note

Any Enigma2 image requires two partitions—one with a size of 16 MB and another with 2024 MB. The main image files are installed on the larger partition.

Once you finish adjusting all your mount points, restart the device. After the boot process completes, go to a file called fstab, located in the following path:

    /etc/fstab

But what if the current image doesn’t see the other images? There are two ways to fix this:

    1. Using a tool like Mount Manager or Device Manager: Through these tools, you set up the mount points and assign a specific name to each available storage device on your system. This helps the image recognize them.

    3.png

Press the OK) key on any partition with 2.15 GB to mount it and ignore the 16.78 MB Partitions

    4.png

    Congratulation

Now all your partitions are saved successfully in fstab file located in /etc/

This file is the registry where all mount points are recorded. If the entries in this file are correctly written, you can easily take a copy of it and paste it into the same path in all the images you want.

    2. Direct Edit for your Fstab file.

Using any text editor like notpad++ open your fstab file located in (/etc/), just add same sequence and note sda = SDcard, sdb = HDD, sdc= Flash disk)

    5.png

Sorry for the long post, and I hope you find it useful!

    Best regards.

Your set-up looks more professional and require some background about electricity basics. I will google it.

My first target to have simple and cheapest solution to cool the box and for this reason I direct the Air flow to the box not pulling it out,

I know this will accumulate dust in the box but this is better to seal the whole ventilator holes. May be I will blow it with Air gun from time to time.

    Appreciate your input

Sorry for the long post, and I hope you find it useful!

    Best regards.

I think you made it, although I was asking for cheaper fan but yours looks good,

I think you connect the wiring directly to the power of your box, correct? If Yes please share with us a picture for your connection.

Also it will be good if you try a fresh image to judge the trick.

Hello, thanks for the idea, I set it up and my receptor immediately went down in temperature....however the fan runs all the time, even when the device is off, I need to find a solution to that.....

Red is the + wire, black is the - wire, and the yellow wire is for the rotation speed...

It went from 75 degrees to 55......

You can connect it to your tv USB, when you turned your TV off, it will turn off or just keep it work like what i doing

I do am using LAN but perhaps I should totally desable wifi from the settings or it might still run in the background.
It only freezes when I'm whatching IPTV, it never does when I'm on DTT channels. I suppose IPTV is more affressive and generates more heat or overflows memories and that causes the crashes.
I looked at the fan I have and it has 4 wires, I will ave to look for a scheme to find the + and - then I just sold them on a USB plug.

    Great,

Please share your feedback about the test when you finish it.

You know what, my octagon gold has the problem that sometimes it suddendly freezes when I'm whatching streams, so suddendly that it doesn't even have time to generate an error log so it's hard to find the cause. I have an unused case fan sitting somewhere and I should give it a try. :thinking face:

I think Italy has weather close to Egypt, just to know after 80 C the box almost dead, try to use lan instead of WIFI ( which gereate a lot of heat) try to Install the fan with the second option (external power supply) make the air out to the box (air flow to box) interior , sure you will have better performance
