I'd like to ask, is there a way in this enigma to redirect picons and or epg to external disk?

Also, which are main locations in enigma installation where one can 'uninstall', that is remove optional components? I know of /usr/local/share/enigma2 from where I removed SKY.NEW skin which I don't use and which didn't show up in the 'delete plugins' panel. I also deleted picons and languages I don't need in that same location.

I thought to remove UK cable & Astra28 autoboquet plugins but those also don't show up in uninstall dialog and I can't find where they reside in enigma... but I suppose they don't take up much space in flash anyway, right?

I know what you saying, but I have been trying many enigmas this past winter and only few ran reasonably fast - mainly speed of selections in menus, and then mainly in the Channel selection menu where the selection can be slow to move to another channel when you press arrow down or up, and this mainly affects dvb-t channels, sometimes it is just dvb-t HD channels (I suspect not much attention is paid to terrestrial reception by enigma developers). Some enigmas ran reasonably fast after install but in couple days of putting them through paces and doing some 'innocent' menu configuration, they would start slowing down to the point when I would just give up and try something else. This HDMU backup of yours with this different skin runs for me as fast as Spark LOL and that is something. If it won't break, I will be happy camper, nevermind some UK specific additions which I can probably uninstall and even if I couldn't. I used Spark side of Alien2 for years because I couldn't find enigma fast enough to be like Spark but with more features.

Though I might try new HDMU install llater on and see how it goes. Last year I remember I tried fresh HDMU, also tried CaptainBlast HDMU backup from here but I think it was slow or something and I didn't keep those installs long. How did you manage to get your backup so small? Mine typically have some 127MB uncompressed. I do backups from that Spark 'plugin-e2upgrade.s' plugin.

Last couple enigmas I tried, OpenDroid v5.5 and OpenESI-3.0 didn't show EPG information in the Channel Selection or in EPG menu at all, just in Infobar, which tells the story how dvb-t side of enigmas is paid attention to (I did mention that on Italien OpenEsi forum but who know if or when that might be paid attention to).

I use dvb-t tuner because receiving those same channels from satelite would mean buying card and paying monthly subscription (Czech Republic).

I tested and this enigma starts into the 'last viewed channel' from standby but not from deep standby or complete shutdown, then it goes to empty view and need to press OK, Blue, OK to get into my favorites and select a channel. It gets into way when I use 'History' button since it cycles back to this 'empty' view and then it won't go further. Perhaps I will try to set one particular channel to show upon enigma start, I think there is that possibility in menus.

BTW there is skin mixup it seems, I wrote I installed skin "'Kerni-HD 1 R2'" but actually it looks like I actually installed skin "mymetrix (2.0.14full)". It seems that there is confusion in 'preview' picture between those two, I looked into it now and can't tell which I do have or how to tell which of them I do have. Anyway I include couple pics here.

I only configured tuners right after restoring your backup. BTW I flashed the second version you uploaded which should 'load better' (BTW how did you make it 'different'? Are they both backups from Spark's plugin_e2upgrade.s or maybe the first one was from within enigma itself?)

I changed terrestrial tuner A to mode T (from C)

Both Sat tuners I set to 'Advanced' and set 'B' to Hotbird 13E with LNB activated (but currently there's no cable/dish connected to this tuner - I suppose it is better to deactivate it (set it to not-configured) so the enigma is not trying to read EPG from it and perhaps have to wait till the request times out?), the other sat tuner 'C' I set to Astra 19.2E and this one is connected to my smaller 60cm parabola and is working.

Seeing your post in the morning, I started the box to check the tuners before posting and the box got stuck longer than couple minutes somewhere in the start sequence, when it doesn't output video yet and says Run and very slowly counts something, maybe minutes? I cycled the switch on the back and then it started OK. However it started to 'empty' Channel Selection but when I shut down last night ('deep standby' and then the switch on the back to off) it was on one of the dvb-t channels (that would not be a big thing even if it always started to empty channel selection...).

Right now I went to set that B tuner to 'not-configured' and when saving the state you get the dialog about 'deleting the satelite' (with options yes, no, yes to all, no to all)... Does that mean deleting the setting for that satelite? But then if you select yes to all, does it delete setting even for other tuners or what?

The new skin has size info of recorded movies, not just time duration which is nice, however I used to set recording timer by opening Channel selection menu and then pressing Info button which would open Single channel EPG for the channel that was the selection was on - and I could press Exit to return to Channel selection and move the selection to another channel without switching to it and pressing Info would open SingleEPG for that channel... with this enigma, I have to activate the channel for it to be selected in the SingleEPG. It was very convenient for setting recording timer for days up ahead for number of channels. Took me a lot of figuring to even manage it so it works with this need for the channels being activated (Info button needs to be set to show SingleEPG on short press). In any case, I give the hotkey plugin run to the fullest configuring keys since it looks I will be using this enigma for long time.

Trying it out, interesting features (like specially the Hotkey Setup panel, I missed that a lot in enigmas I tried out lately), works as advertised if rather slow in menus all over. I did activate the swap per instructions if that matters. Had hard time changing region to CET because the menu doesn't show scroll bar.

I changed the A tuner from Cable to Terrestrial and sent in my own setting and works just fine.

Will try different skins, don't like the included one, and see if it will run faster and look better with another one.

OK update - installed skin 'Kerni-HD 1 R2' and let it use the easy wizard it offered after installation (didn't see such involved skin setup before) and it is now fast in menus and in Channel Selection menu even when moving the selection over HD channels (had big problems with this on PKT Hyperion 5.1 image when the selection on HD channels from terrestrial broadcast would stick for like two seconds or even longer before allowing to be moved further and then it jumped one channel...).

Looks like a keeper, thanks a lot pauldb, you made my day. :welldone:

Today my Alien completely stopped outputting video signal from E2 Eurosat image (from all tuners but this time it was worse as the whole box didn't output any signal to TV), when rebooting I could see the box outputting video signal (I have it connected to TV via HDMI switch which has diode showing when the video signal is active) I could see the booting logo until the counter on the display reached 62, when 65 showed the signal to TV stopped (TV reported input signal missing). The box continued booting and on the Alien display I could see it completed start up, I could switch channels, but there was no video signal out to TV... To make it quite clear, this time I am not talking about losing signal from one or two tuners but flat out no video from the box which even a full reboot didn't correct. Booting into Spark brought the video back, booting back to Enigma again no video after the boot reached the count 65 on vfd.

I started access via webif and also could start streaming tv to vlc no problem. I found I could FTP in and recalled your offer of the stmdvb.ko file, I copied that in and after reboot the box started outputting video again.

I recall now I had some video loss problems earlier in the day when the box was waking from sleep but I thought that was just some glitch and it somehow recovered until at last it didn't recover.

I cross my fingers and hope that replacing that stmdvb.ko file is what the enigma needed. Replacing just tht pti.ko file worked for what, couple days? But apparently it is not long term solution (unless the box stops outputting video again).

Good thing I went for it before reading your warning. My box survived reboot after I replaced the pti.ko file and since then survived wake up from deep standby already and when I go to settings, tuner setup, the tuners are still there and configured as they were... Today everything is fine, as far as recording goes anyway, will test streaming and PiP (although this latter is not for serious use, if only because you get sound from both channels, more like for playing with it and be amazed how nifty it looks when it sometimes works without stutter)

I will store away this module just in case some problems crop up, thanks a bunch, you saved my enigma since I do record quite a bit.

I do need to replace B (T1) with A since on B I have motorized dish that went wanky and stubbornly turns out to extreme W position, not sure yet where the problem is (same problem in Spark, it is either cabling or the motor)

In those five steps, when B is A, I don't get any picture in step 5 and don't see anything when I subsequently return to the channel tuned in step 3

Basically after recording on one tuner (after recording is finished), I lose picture on the other (tuner).

    ----------------------

The full path to pti.ko file in the Eurosat image is: /lib/modules/2.6.32.61_stm24_0217//extra/pti/pti.ko

I guess I should change the name to pti.ko.BAK and copy in from your download the '217' version of the file, since that's what I got in the folder name description in lib/modules, right?

Edit: OK I seem to have a success, did just one brief test (1 min recording, then going to the other tuner) and it held, I got the picture. Thank you so much, I do need some prodding as you can see. Will test some more and report tomorrow.

Thanks for reply and hi there, sorry if I posted about you as if you didn't post on this thread...

Right now I did another test, I have bouquet with channels from both DVB-T and DVB-S tuners (the S tuner is pointed to Astra19.2). The T channels are at the top, bottom half has channels from the Astra satelite, so I can just press left right arrow on DO to toggle switch btw terrestrial Sport and satelite Eurosport channels.

Watching Eurosport on Astra I set recording for two minutes and five minutes later, when the recording was finished I pressed left arrow which switched me to terestrial Sport channel and I got black screen, same on all other terrestrial channels. There is no popup notice whatever, the SNR AGC numbers in infobar seem to take a second or two longer to show (from 0 values) but they do show up and change as if everything was normal, just no picture or sound...

I take it it is the same thing regardless S or T tuners. I would like to stick to Eurosat enigma since I always found enigmas slow in channel switching (which makes me to suffer listening to commercial adds extra second or two before the box switches to another channel) and that was why I always returned to Spark. Now with Eurosat enigma I finally found one which is as fast as Spark. Also from testing various enigmas (I admit rather brief sometimes), I got maybe wrong impression that they are all the same (PKT, HDMU, Hyperion, Neutrino, OpenATV, ViX4E2, Graterlia - the last two are rather different from the others), just differently skinned like, this Eurosat enigma seems to be to my unexpert eyes different, has menus redone in interesting fashion than your typical enigma... Eurosat enigma is the first I got 'sold on' and actually started to use it, configured it and that's actually why I ran into this bug, because I started using it LOL (typically my testing of enigmas would mean several hours playing, looking at its menu structures, trying different skins, usually I was not able to connect HDD as enigmas typically are a bit too geeky for me, also I disliked having to use ext3 format, fortunately I found that ext2fsd was updated to run on latest windows as last time I looked it wasn't for win7 and up... also Eurosat enigma takes FAT format just fine, also you just plug your device in and it mounts... need ext3 to place epg on external though.

if you replace it with one from GOS or PKT, it seems to fix... BUT, because of dependencies on other modules, sometimes you cannot just replace pti.ko, stmdvb.ko also needs to be replaced, and even replacing both does not always work. I never tried the eurosat image, so I am not sure if it will work...

Take your time, I will have a stab at it, just a question, to extract, copy out the file(s), how does one go about it? Do I actually need to flash the PKT enigma on my box and ftp in (just tried but can't open .img enigma file in UltraISO)? Not sure what GOS is, is that GraterliaOS or what. In case of PKT image, I suppose I should copy out from v5.1, not sure where to look for the files though (I mean inside linux files), sometimes in past I wasn't able to find files in linux, maybe some pointer as to the location? Also recall some talk about hex editor to change the files, I could get some shareware 'notepad' that allows hex views and editing if needed.

BTW if anybody wan't to have a look, new fresh Eurosat v2.0 is here

I still don't get it how can enigmas come out and not have these correct files in. Is there no testing or everybody has single tuner boxes or what. But anyway, that's between the sky and the earth, as they say. This is a pretty major bug and years longstanding, I think since Alien2 came out.

while reading that old thread on hdmedia-universe forum I am confused, user franjo there has the same tuner put offline that he recorded from, in my case it is the other tuner, maybe even tuner's' (but currently I don't use the second S tuner). Likely it is the same bug underneath.

My triplex with all tuners used shows the same behaviour .
After a recording that tuner is unusable. restart fixes the problem .
It is problematic when you want to record 2 programs after each other on dvbc on different channels.

BTW I can't download file fixes from that forum as I am not registered there.

Further reading up on the problem @hdmedia-universe forum thread, besides finding the info where the pti.ko file resides (/lib/modules/pti.ko)

I also read about PiP there and tried it out and found the following: PiP works (although it has tendency to stutter both main and small picture, box has difficulty to manage both but that may be because I switch around too much to test things out) and in relation to the problem at hand, I found it 'counts' as recording or streaming... that is it also locks (greys out) channels from other transponders on the same satelite/tuner.

Moreover I found that after recording from one tuner, I can watch channel from the other tuner, but when the recording finishes (on auto anyway) and I switch to next channel on the same tuner/satelite, the signal is gone and switching back to previous channel that worked now doesn't work either. Now, if I switch on PiP on the tuner which I originally recorded from, the channel I didn't see the picture of on the other tuner all of a sudden works, that is I can watch it while having PiP of the channel from that tuner I originally recorded from... Since PiP works in principle like recording or streaming, that means when I did record on one tuner and when the recording is finished I lost access to channels on other tuners, if I started to record from the same tuner again, I should again gain view access to that other tuner but only while the recording went on - I have yet to test this.

One difficulty is I couldn't find out how to cancel the PiP function, only shift it to another channel (after five minutes of fiddling with buttons, I think the red power button when shortly pressed doesn't put the box into standby but cancels the PiP). Also I get sound from both the main picture and PiP but that's all as it may be, main thing is that not only recording and streaming but also PiP cuts off access to use of other tuner(s). In short, any function which limits switching to other transponders (from the same satelite source of course), cuts off access to other tuners (when the original 'recording' function finishes, be it recording or streaming to pc or displayed as PiP).

I think all this might be useful for somebody who might try to work out some definite fix for all enigmas.

I can't recall seeing any message, when I switch to a channel on the other tuner, I get black screen, no message pops up that I would notice. I can replicate the problem now that I understand it from that thread I read - I read just one page of it so far and still am not clear what this 'pti module' is, whether we talk here about some file that people copy out from other enigma image and use it to replace the existing one in their enigma... or what. I can replicate the problem at will simply by letting recording finish on one tuner (T or S) and then trying to switch to any program on the other tuner, exactly as the problem is described on that thread I posted the link to. And streaming to PC via Webif/VLC triggers the same fault since the receiver treats the streaming exactly as it would recording (you can see on channel list greyed out channels from other transponders, same as when you are recording...), exactly as was pointed out on that thread, where joeuser took part...

Anyway I have this Alien2 receiver number of years now and always used the Spark side of it, when I did try out enigma, I always ended up back in Spark before this problem came up (before I got to configure recording). Thing is I used and still use for support another forum based in Czech Rep. and I now recall people there posted about this problem years ago (empty recordings in enigma2) and I have realized only now that they must have been suffering from the same glitch, which means this is quite longstanding issue affecting all or most enigmas. At the time I thought it was some isolated problem that few people had, as always happens with anything, some folks may have issues.

I'd appreciate if somebody could post some practical advice, not just 'google it'. It is quite a reading and fairly technically involved and while I can (for example) ftp or telnet into my box and have some knowledge about replacing files in linux etc, I am by no means expert or geek (like I can execute command from CLI but need to be told what to write out on line...) just to make clear the extent of my abilities.

I found this here where joeuser posts on the problem. http://www.hdmedia-universe.co…ive/index.php/t-8296.html

From what I read up on it so far there, it seems to be related to when you record and the recording finishes... also in my case it happens with dvb-t and dvb-s tuners, on that thread they seem to think its only between the two S tuners. I still have to read to see if some solution is found, didn't find any related posts by joeuser on this forum (so far), thanks for the pointer anyway. I'd say it is enigma2 since I used spark since I got this box several years ago and it never ever had this problem. Perhaps time to chuck this box onto some relatives who would be fine with Spark (or who do not record) and get something new.

BTW I am fairly 'simple' user, I don't run any oscam and whatever of that kind, no card, all sat FTA channels only, really just image with manually tuned setting, also import setting via DCC program, plug in usb ext3 key or hdd for recording and that's just about it. Only used webif few times now with this eurosat E2 image.

Hi, I started using Euro-sat image for Alien2 and it is the first E2 I actually used more than just trying it out. Up to now I didn't find E2 that would run fast enough and always returned to the Spark side of Alien box. I think I ran into a bug on Eurosat image and the only support forum seems to be only Italian one @

    Code
    http://www.euro-sat-image.com/forum/index.php

(didn't make acct there to find out if they have English support section there).

Anyway, the bug is that sometimes when I have been watching tv on DVB-T tuner channels and then I want to switch to a channel on DVB-S tuner, I get blank picture (black screen and no sound) on all channels on the S tuner. I tried switching various things in enigma menus but the only way to get the picture on that tuner back is to fully restart enigma (restart GUI is not enough).

Same thing can happen when I've been watching channels on DVB-S tuner and decide to switch to a channel on DVB-T (in that case none of the T tuner channels show picture). I think the bug is more generally to do with switching tuners, not because it is T or S tuner. It didn't happen to me when switching between the two S tuners because currently I don't use T1 (B) tuner on my Alien2 tripple tuner box (it is connected to motorized dish and I have problem with motor defaulting to extreme W position turnout... but that's different problem, I have to check my connectors I think).

BTW few days ago new Eurosat image version 2.0 came out (previous was v1.5 since last summer I think) and I flashed this new version clean (not update v1.5) but in one evening testing I already lost the picture this way once.

I also use Spark exclusively, tried out various Enigmas but always return to Spark, mainly because enigmas all run slow in channel menu, slow to show infobar, in one enigma I was able to make it run up to par with Spark (had to do something with refreshing autobouquet pluggin) but that lasted only till next reboot and I couldn't be bothered and returned to Spark). Still eying enigmas, just yesterday I flashed Eurosat E2 image and it is now a serious contender to Spark, only time will tell. It is not that Spark doesn't have its minuses (mainly lack of features) but it is a very reliable workhorse on Alien2 tripple tuner box, it has to be handed to it.

I did try out TV Wall when it came out but stopped using it after a few times trying it out. I will look at it again now you called my attention to it.

Any of the channel lists from here will work => Enigma2 Channel List Download

Do you need a motorised dish list or just static dish for one satellite ?

Instead of making my own thread - is that the main difference among all those various settings? I have motor, Location Central EU @14 degrees East longitude and I noticed Likra setting is popular around where I live, for motorized dish that is. Does it take up much memory space inside box and or slow it down, if you upload into it full range of satelites and is that reason why people choose limited sets for sats that they mainly watch something on?

Second question, I started using E-Channelizer settings editor and would like to know how to merge my own custom DVB-T setting - I did manual sat scan and sorted into bouquet - with Likra setting for 4 sat which I just downloaded from here. I suppose the process is the same as with other editors (also have DreamboxEdit and DCCenter) it doesn't matter if you explain with any other one in mind, I just need the kick in right direction.
    Thanks.

Update after few days of trying this image out - the backup image loaded fine, no problem whatever, but there is one deadly fault, every maybe two and a half seconds the spinner wheel shows up for some quarter second and that is related to slow response to every change I want to make with remote control - showing infobar only after a second delay and spinning wheel showup, same for dismissing infobar by pressing Exit on remote, calling up any menu same delay with spinner showing, changing menu choices (scrolling through epg or system menus) also has delays, basically that kills this enigma for me.

As I wrote in support section here on forum, I can make this enigma work fast by launching Autobouquets plugin and letting it do its lookup/download thing from 28.2 sat, but next restart of enigma the debilitating delays return... I deleted the plugin but that doesn't help and it removes the only way to remove the slowdowns. I could reinstall it but I can't run this plugin by hand every time enigma boots (I shut down the box most nights).

Which program people use these days for editing channel settings in enigma? It has been some years since I did that last. I downloaded DCC v1.50 from here but it seems for exporting/editing settings another program is needed?

And if I wanted to clean enigma of all settings and subsequently to put in my own, where would I look for them in enigma (directory) and which file(s) to delete? Concretely I talk about HDMU but I think it is the same in all Enigma images.

OK thanks all for responses, I came to this thread to retract slowness accusation for the 'CaptainBlastXD backup image' which I gave second look this afternoon, hoping that disabling some features will cure the debilitating spinner showing and those almost two seconds lag on pretty well all operations...

I found how to get this HDMU backup image to full 'sparklike' speed - after trying to disable 'use multiple bouquets' and 'do not show infobar when changing channels' without any speed improvements, I finally drilled it down to the following -> if I go to plugins menu and launch the fist plugin there, the "AutoBouquetsE2-28.2e stream bouquet downloader" and when its panel opens I press OK on remote (which is probably the same as pressing the green button to Start it) I get asked something about 'if I want to scan NIT' (I select NO, don't know what it is anyway) and then it turns my parabola to 28.2e if its not there and scans for few minutes and when its done and I back out of menus I find the enigma works as fast as it should. However if I reboot enigma the slowdown return and I have to launch this plugging and let it do its lookup thing as per above to get enigma back to speed. What gives?

I don't view channels form this sat 28.2e to begin with, I suppose the EPG setting is somehow waiting for this plugin to work in the background and it doesn't work as it should and that is causing the slowdown? I did have enigma running for like half hour at least, I suppose when started there may be some minutes before epg and such like actualize but that doesn't seem to the case here.

I am thinking to uninstall this plugin (didn't delete it as yet because now it enables me to get the enigma up to speed, what if I delete it and enigma will be slow again and I won't have this plugin to run LOL and it won't show up in downloadable plugins to install again...) and or deleting or pruning the whole channel setting - not sure if this latter can be done from within enigma or I need to export setting out to some program like DCC or what people use nowadays, it has been some time since I did that. This enigma from CaptainBlastXD backup image seems to be configured for UK region (Ireland specifically perhaps?) and I am in central EU. BTW speaking about location, I set the time region but the time is two hours off, like when it is 18.00, the enigma shows 16.00, two hours less. It can't be summer time shift since that would be just one hour. Should I simply choose time region couple hours shifted East, like someplace in Russia or what, that couple hours time offset is confusing as hell in infobar/egp

As for Spark, I have this box perhaps four years and I tried enigma here and there but never was able to use it for any length of time in practice, always just testing for an afternoon maximum and then it was back to spark. If it wasn't unacceptable slowness, then it was difficulties connecting USB HDD, that is another bummer with all enigmas. BTW can HDMU image connect FAT32 or do I have to use that linuxEXT3/4 format? I'd rather not to and if yes, then is it a rocket science to mount it.

    - - - Updated - - -

you can try telneting to the box and running "top" to see if anything is using a lot of cpu.

Well, that is sort of useless, the values jump crazy and after rebooting enigma and it slowed down again, I telneted in and noticed jffs something at some 17% CPU used, I think that is some partition thing. But because its so quickly changing what I managed to copy out is different, plus not formated as it is in notepad. Could the slowdown culprit be my USB HD which has Fat32 format? I left it connected as I was using it in Spark...

I am also deciding on enigma2 to run on my Alien2 as an alternative to Spark but I find all enigmas have one huge issue, at least for me - they are too slow to respond to switching channel, showing info panel, hiding info panel (1 to 2 seconds if not longer), in short, too slow for just about everything. Spark, in contrast to various Enigmas2, doesn't even seem to have a cursor, spinning wheel or anything to indicate that something is about to happen, simply because in Spark you don't wait for anything, that is you don't wait long enough for any operation to warrant showing that the box is waiting for something to show up... perhaps Spark also has some spinning wheel or 'progress dots' but it is so fast you never get to see it.

It is hard for me to understand how people can put up with this slowness in enigma (I tried openATV5.1, Hyperion3&4&4.5, Neutrino3, HDMU CaptainBlastXD backup image...)

I still have to try out this 'Graterlia' project, hope it won't be too geeky for my limited linux know-how. That one might be, hopefully, lean and mean enigma but that remains to be seen.

I am about set on trying this customized image out but I am sort of confused by all the links, updates galore, repeated posting of the orig post for no reason I can see, garish font size and colors, I did study it all last night but coming here today I can't make head or tail of all the downloads again, which are current (latest), which old, deprecated as they say, thanks for pointers.

I think if I use the very first link from the first page of this thread

    [- Download Backup4 HERE!!!Update 4 - 27/06/15]

I will get the image with all the tweaks by pauldb integrated in?
