Looking for the cheapest linux HD receiver with a proper 7 day EPG. I know I can go down the DM clone route, but would like to know if there are any other options below £160. Primarily it would be used as a client setup but would be good if it could work as a server aswell. Any thoughts?

Do you want a box with a single or dual tuner? If you could push yourself to £200 you would have a lot more options!

Just noticed today on your pics that you had run the coaxial through the arm of the dish to the LNB rather than use black tape to attach it to the arm,i like this trick! hadn't even noticed that option on my own set-up.Think i will borrow this idea from you bud,lol

work away..I can't even take the honours, the guy who installed my dish did it!

Recently my permanent timeshift has stopped working...just wondering if anyone else had experienced this -

" Creating Hardlink to Timeshift file failed!
    [Errno 5] Input/output error:
    '/media/hdd//timeshift.lhPRFA' "

" Creating hardlink to Timeshift file failed!
The Filesystem on your Timeshift-Device does not support hardlinks.
Make sure it is formatted in EXT2 or EXT3!

    [Errno 5] Input/output error "

I briefly had this issue with an earlier version of BH but it just seemed to resolve itself...

I've been having a play around with VIX today and now have my VFD picons working joint10

    Notes -

    1. Put the 'lcd_picon' directory where you want to store your VFD picons i.e HDD, USB or flash
    2. I have made basic amendments to the skin_display_picon.xml file to accommodate my 110x40px picon size
    3. At time of testing, my VIX_HD_Common/lcd directory was empty so I couldn't amend the position of the status icons to suit - you will need to amend the xml to suit my layout when these png's are restored!

Hopefully this is of some use!

    Enjoy!

I'll test mine between Vu+ boxes tomorrow when I upgrade my Duo...

It would come in handy for streaming my motorised satellite downstairs and save me running another cable! I wouldn't use it much but if it works without glitching over my ethernet, it'll do nicely!

TBH I wonder how BH decide what to work on next...I could think of a dozen more useful features! :amazed:

hi. scene i bought my vu+ultimo i have tried all different image . and one problem is there with all image that problem is after running about 20 minutes some time 45 minutes the receiver will just freeze up remote don't work at all . i have to switch it off at the mains and restart it and it will run for 20 / 30 minutes and it freezes again. i have been looking in the net for answer . some suggest it auto crush log sending causing it . so i disable it . i also disabled hdmi-cec but nothing seems to get rid of the problem . is any body else having this problem or is it just me ? any ideas to why it is happening ? Thanks

Have you a hard disk installed in the box? It sounds like its overheating tbh...

If you have a drive installed, what temperature is it running at?

can you start the Ultimo without the lid on it? Try that and see how long it takes to crash...also, check the fan is working!

Thanks for your help mate i appreciate it, I flashed the blackhole image mentioned above and all is fine at the moment, it flashed no problem (makes me think it was sucessful earlier at upgrading the bootloader), so I might try flash the latest images later on if i get bored of this one

Are there many advantages to the new images that require the upgraded bootloader?

There are loads of new features worth upgrading to 1.7.0 for ( 1.7.1 is out later today, keep an eye out for it!)

Flashing the boot loader will only take a few seconds, just ensure you download the one for the Solo as a few people have misloaded them!

Yes that shoud be plenty enough you'd think. Problem with recording over NAS as opposed to recording to a USB or internal HDD is that the latter would often be decicated, where over the network you might be using the network or shared drive for other things while it is recording. You woudn't notice this while you are viewing your full HD iso's because when you are watching something you would be less likely to be doing anything else! I have found that the recording over LAN is more of a gimmick and I only tried it to see if it works, and it sort of does. You could always go back to recording to a drive attached to your receiver, and mabe set this up as a SAMBA share, this works fine for me:scarf:

True but every other connected device on the network has a GigE interface and the LAN is fully GigE so theres plenty of bandwidth going round!!

Others are reporting no issues and realistically I should be able to record 2-3 programs on both Vu+ boxes simultaneously without any problems so I'll keep testing in case I've missed something...

Edit - I've went back to recording on individual hard drives and just share between boxes for viewing....disappointing but not the end of the world lol

    Thanks for fast reply.
But, i've done that step before.. the device still in red light.
I own this device since 3 years, I does many updates secssufully. but this time I dont know what happen.
    please give me another solution..

Did you flash your Solo with a Duo image by mistake? If so -

I'm not sure if this will work but you could try and see ( you will need a null modem cable!) -

Switch the box off at the back
Open putty and choose a serial connection - speed must be set to 115200 and choose the COM port.
Turn the box on, you should see some text scrolling on the putty screen.
Now use the ctrl + c key to stop the booting.
copy the following line in the screen:

    boot -z -elf flash0.kernel: 'rootfstype=jffs2 root=/dev/mtdblock0 rw mem=0x8000000 bcmrac=3`

The box now reboot from the flash, so watch your box.
Then open telnet and put in the following line.

    flash_eraseall /dev/mtd5

and after that, the following line

    reboot -f

If all that goes well you can hopefully flash with your desired Solo image!

It seems that writing to the disk is the problem rather than reading as you said yourself it streams fine over the network from the NAS. Have you tested your write speed to make sure that it is writing fast enough to the NAS to be able to record? You would think so, but I found that when I was recording to NAS (can't do it now 'cause the latest Qbox update seems to have broken CIFS access!) it seemed to be struggling and found that my write speeds to the network drive were low.

yea its very weird...sorry I meant to say I had done some testing and was getting 9.5-10.5MB/s to and from the NAS and Ultimo....which is fair enough!

I see BH 1.7.1 is out tomorrow so I'll maybe see if that makes any odds!

    Hi all,

I'm having issues recording from my Vu+ boxes over my LAN,

I have a Duo downstairs and an Ultimo upstairs, both hard wired into a GigE network,

My NAS upstairs has a shared drive that both machines record to,

My problem is when recording from either box to the NAS, playback of the program jerks, breaks up, freezes etc...

It seems the fault is with the recording itself as rewinding and replaying results in the same issues at the same points...

I'm pretty confident my LAN and NAS are fine as I can stream full HD ISO's over my network from the same NAS without issue!

Does anyone else do this? Any tips?

nice style mate really like them only problem now mate is you are going to have to do a complete package between 45 east and 45 west for me starting with a dovevision one for 37west sandman :-)

lol...em...I'll get right on it!! I do these by hand so they take a bit longer to do....Once I get a 28E set finished I'll move onto 13E! I can't even get 37W so checking they're right would be interesting!!

i'll give that a go and see how that works out could just be me messing things up too but i'm slowly cracking it all.
What's the best channel editor for the vu+ because i'm trying DBE at the moment and there is no sign of the HD channels in it.

I'm on a Mac during the day so I use iDreamX...you could give Vu+ Control Centre a go!
