  • BBC confirms iPlayer app for Android/Apple devices

    The BBC will launch an iPlayer application for mobile phones and iPads tomorrow.


    The free download will allow users to watch BBC TV and radio channels live on their gadgets as well as catch up on programmes aired during the last week.


    The long-awaited app will initially only be available on the iPad and on mobile devices running Google's Android operating system. A wi-fi connection is also necessary.



    Going mobile: An iPlayer application for mobile phones and iPads will be launched by the BBC tomorrow
    iPhone and iPod Touch owners will have to wait for a compatible app - expected soon - to be made available for their devices.


    Currently consumers must visit the BBC website on their device, but the new app is expected to make access far easier.


    Future versions may also allow programmes to be downloaded for viewers to enjoy when they are not online, potentially handy for people on the London Underground.


    BBC spokesman Daniel Banker confirmed tomorrow's launch.


    He said: 'Apps are a big part of our plans to make BBC Online more easily accessible on mobile devices.


    'The BBC News app has been a success for us since launching last year and BBC iPlayer will be next off the production line.


    These apps are coming at a time when we're really beginning to see massive growth of people using BBC iPlayer on mobile devices.


    'Over Christmas, growth in mobile use of BBC iPlayer outpaced PC growth by more than two-to-one, and BBC iPlayer growth on tablets outpaced PCs by more than twenty-to-one.'


    The BBC launched its latest version of iPlayer last September - it included an element of social networking by integrating Facebook and Twitter accounts so that viewers know what programmes their friends have 'liked'.


    The launch was beset by hundreds of viewer complaints that the updated version was full of bugs that made it extremely difficult to use.

    Informations:


    To watch TNT Sat, vplug needs a much more packed size so it works on TNT Sat by increasing packed size from host program (if its adjustable) :


    DVB Viewer Pro : Do nothing, SoftCSA needed and Free Pack will be set this program automatically and all OK
    DVB Dream : Preferences > Plug-in Interface > set packed size to 368
    AltDVB : Plugins > set packed size to 368
    Other apps: There are two plugins which use vplug modules named "EREN" and "mdplug" so if your host program does not present to adjust plugin packed size, you can try these plugins but i think both are unstable/unsafe..(If you think to use them with vplug at same time, delete mdl files smartly..For example delete viaccess.mdl from vplug files and delete all mdl files outside viaccess.mdl from other plugin files..In this sample vPlug will be inactive on tntsat channels and other plugins will only be active on tntsat channels (not tested i just think..))

  • DVB-3DTV specifications

    The DVB Technical Module has given its approval to the DVB-3DTV specification.


    The Phase 1, frame compatible, system will allow viewers to keep and use their current set-top box, in line with plans put forward by broadcasters including BSkyB and Canal+, though requiring them to purchase a new 3D compatible television display.


    Work in the technical module has been led by BSkyB?s David Daniels, and follows the establishment of the first set of commercial requirements that were prepared and agreed last July.


    DVB commercial experts are currently discussing a Phase 2 system that may be needed to meet other broadcast requirements, such as having a 2D version of the same programme available as part of the 3D channel. There may also be a need for viewers to be able to adjust picture depth for maximum ?eye comfort?.


    The majority of interest in the Phase 1 system has come from pay-TV broadcasters, in Europe and the United States. Phase 2 is also attracting interest from the free-to-air broadcasters in the US market and some pay-TV operators. Tests of a DVB Phase 2 system are currently taking place in Korea.


    ?There are circumstances where each of the formats gives viewers the best quality and that?s why we need all of them,? explained David Wood, chair of the DVB?s commercial module.


    Speaking at last week?s DTG 3D event, Wood said there were also plans for a Service Compatible option within Phase 1. This involved signaling information on frame cropping and aspect ratio that would instruct the receiver to ?de-anamorphize? one of the stereo images and output it as a normal 2D image.


    Formal Steering Board approval and publication of the standard is expected towards the end of February
