go to Menu---> Tool---> Information---> Press "8888" on the remote conroller. or press Red-Green--Yellow--Blue--8--8 key on the remote controller, and you will see the CHiP iD.
If your CHiP iD is one from the following list (the list is updated continuously), then you have so called original box. All is fine for you.
the chip_id_list is the following, it will update everyday: (updated date: 12/26/2011)

Found this regarding the chips

Did not work on my s9 only could scroll accross top of menu but not down.reflashed back s9 software...

was wondering if this update on s9 changes channel listings to horizontal ones same as s10 instead of vertical? so can scroll left to right instead of up and down, cheers.

Hi cheers for reply, trying orf , do you have to do something extra on box to open it?

Loaded latest software 11-08-08 ,latest softcam also, softcam on usb,, menu, dump by usb,misc file option 6 ,looks like loading ,info says softcam ok , but it dont work, any ideas plz

Is t he above best uk firmware at moment? and does softcam open hd on bulsat, is it unofficial software?

I think its yellow button ,yellow button dowmloads and move to cccam which you want and select and confirm,
use dcc and ftp over to say a usb stick the you can edit your cfg in this and save it then ftp back to 500s {i think its in var,,,etc,,the cfg}

Certain channels on s+y cause box to reboot and go to s+y news,this seems to be certain frequencys,and box seems inoperative, hold menu when booting, sometimes cant access menu, to alter things,after reboots, then put on a channel list already edited, with certain channels missing,when you rescan the sat it brings the problems back,so just use edited list and if you want a certain channel just scan that transponder,and if trouble with it then delete what you just scanned, hope this makes sence,

Reading all the above post regarding the clones ive had one for just over two years purchased from a guy in the huddersfield area, it has no fan built in i think it may have been one of the first with boot 69 sim, I have it sitting on a couple of small blocks to get airflow under and i have had no problems really with it, only time it gets warm to hot is on hd chanells , however when not in use put on fta non hd and into standby, Also noted in a previous post it does still work in standby as server,anyway this might have been of interest, so have fun and enjoy your new toys,

Ive had trouble in past trying different images etc, i now resolve to nabilo v11 boot 70 which i find no problem with, quick flash with web broser may sort it or otherwise serial cable,only prob i get green screen crash on media player sometimes.

On nabilo i hilight channel on list and press button 2 sometimes says no epg available but loads after watching for short while.

Running nabilo v11 with bootloader 70 on clone and been happy,flashed from pc,only took few minutes.

Possibly best to go for new, dont seem a bad price,possibly best box.
A new learning curve i think.
