How to change your password using DCC
click on telnet then you get a black screen
type on the screen login
root
dreambox if default
then type passwd
then it will give you the option to type a new password be careful because you do not see any letters come on the screen type the password then hit return and retype it again, then you will see password changed.
if you see the bad password: too weak. ignore it and retype the same as you did first.
remember to restart the box with the remote control ,as a simple reboot in telnet wont save the change..then when you open DCC ,remember to put the new pass if its not there already..
I'm trying to change the password on my dm800 but can't seem to do it!
When I login through telnet, I put 'root' for user and dont get asked for a password.
After typing 'passwd' I get:
passwd: no record of root in /etc/shadow, using /etc/passwd
I enter a password and get the 'too weak' comment. I enter password again and get this:
passwd: cannot update password file /etc/shadow
Any ideas?
Sorted it. I had to create a blank file called 'shadow' in /etc folder
when I open telnet this is already there, root@800# , thought it was meant to be a total black screen ? and when I enter passwd dcc freezes up on me.
totally black no,,it is showing you the box the root is connected to:
for example ,mine is root@dm500plus:?> then you type: passwd (then press enter)
then a message will come up changing password for root ( enter the new password minimum of 5, max of 8 characters)
then ENTER new password:
??perhaps you have telnet port closed ??
look in your .cfg for :
#ALLOW TELNETINFO: no
#TELNETINFO USERNAME : <username>
#TELNETINFO PASSWORD : <password>
remember that :
# default port for telnet is 16000
check yours out...
caz, isn't that just the cccam telnet.
To telnet the box you use port 23.
reddevil, if you dont get a logon prompt, i'm guessing you have no password set on your box.
just type passwd to set a new one.
When it's not working maybe you can find a plugin on your image and download and install this so you can set a passwd direct from your image ?
If you look at my posts, I had problems setting password as there was no password file. I had to create one myself.
Is it set up the same as a 500 ?
I'm not sure. Have you tried setting the password with the passwd command?
Try using putty instead of dcc, if you use cs studio this programme is included with it.

but thats not right,,,,,, it should be " passwd" in every tutorial it says so,,,,,,
