  • Good evening all.

If any of the members could help me out with the following questions I would very much appreciate it.

For your information I have just flashed this image onto my DM800 HD SE (V1) reciever and I have the following questions which I would like to ask you for some help with.

    Firstly, in the plugins menu there are only Four plugins listed, they are as follows;

    1. Cross EPG Downloader.

    2. Media scanner.

    3. OpenWebif.

    4. Picture player.

    If I attempt to download plugins I get a message on screen which says the following;

"The Linux kernel has changed, an update is not permitted".

"Install latest image using USB stick or Image manager".

The same message is displayed on screen if I go to set up and attempt to do a software update.

My immediate problem is that I would like to be able to install something like an addons manager that would give me the option of installing various softcams etc.

Secondly, when I go to set up / Autobouquetsmaker and enter PROVIDER / Virgin UK, my area is not listed.

(I have previously configured and scanned the tuner using the NET ID and PROVIDER scan option for my area and have FTA channels listed and viewable).

Your help and advice / guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you and regards, The Soulman.

  • Hi Master G.

I have attempted to install Linuxsat Panel but it does not appear to have installed correctly.

I think it may be due to shortage of memory space because whilst the Linuxsat Panel was installing there were a few mentions of "Lack of memory space".

The Linuxsat Panel is listed in Plugins but when you try to use it, the different options are shown in text but there are no icons shown.

You can select each of the options like softcams / CCcam for example and again it will show the different softcams listed but you cannot then scroll up / down through the list to select any of them for installation.

If as I suspect this is a memory problem, I have a 16GB USB memory stick that I can use to expand the receivers memory and hopefully overcome this particular problem.

I have previously used this USB memory stick and "Flash Expander" Plugin on another image but as I am not yet familiar with this image and its settings I thougth it would be wise to ask your advice beforehand.

If you would be so kind as to instruct me how to set this USB memory stick up as extra memory for the reciever to use I would be very grateful.

Thank you and regards, The Soulman.

  • Hi again Master G.

I have been looking for a solution to my problem mentioned above and have discovered the the PluginSkinMover on Linux-sat-support, do you think that this would be the easiest way to solve my problem ?.

As there is now no memory space left on the receiver I was thinking that I would re-flash the image from the beginning, reconfigure and scan the tuner and then install PluginSkinMover before anything else like Linuxsat Panel or Lraizers Autobouquets so I could then move any Plugins onto the USB memory stick.

Please advise if this would be a suitable course of action.

Thank you and regards, The Soulman.

I was thinking that I would re-flash the image from the beginning

    Probably a good idea.

    Then install pluginskinmover first.

Install a plugin you want then move it to usb.

Keep moving new plugins, skins to usb as you install them.

Also setting up a swapfile will improve performance. It will give you extra virtual ram.

  • Good morning Master G.

I have now re-flashed the image, re-scanned the tuner and installed PluginSkinMover.

As the Linuxsat Panel is quite a large file (9,109 KB) and the DM800 HD SE does not come with a large amount of on board memory, as a next step would it be advisable to move all of the various plugins like Auto Timer / EPGImport / MediaScanner / OpenWebif, etc that are shown on PluginSkinMover onto the 16GB micro USB memory stick before I attempt to install Linuxsat Panel and Lraizers Autobouquets ?.

In other words, are there any of the plugins that came with the image and are listed on PluginSkinMover that are better left within the recievers memory ?.

I only ask as I wouldn't want to move something that might slow the box down or have some detrimental effect.

Your help and advice is, and has been very much appreciated.

Thank you and regards, the Soulman.

  • Well wouldn't you know it, it's me again Master G.

I've moved everything that came pre-installed / was listed in the PluginSkinMover onto the 16GB Mini USB memory stick and restarted the receiver which has now gone into a boot loop.

Please would you be able to advise as to my next step.

In all honesty, in the short time that I've been using / trying to use / trying to set this image up, it's beginning to wear me down as it just seems to be one problem after another.

Thank you and regards, The Soulman.

At this point its probably best to just reflash the image.

You can remove some pre-installed packages in telnet which will free up more space.

Put opkg remove before each package below. Do one line at a time. (if you use any of these packages don`t remove)

    Example:

    opkg remove sambaserver

  • Thank you Master G for your continued help and assistance.

I have re-flashed the image and re-scanned the tuner and have viewable channels.

I have DCC installed on my computer and can comunicate with the receiver.

Would following the directions you have given me be the next step before I do anything else ?.

As I am not very familiar with Telent commands / usage, would you be able to give me a little more detailed description of the paths and input of the commands that you have recommended.

Also, would it still be advisable to install PluginSkinMover and use it just to move any plugins that I might want to install onto the USB memory stick ?.

Thank you and regards, The Soulman.

    • Official Post

In DCC click the telnet tab

paste in each line and press enter

    for example

    paste in

    opkg remove sambaserver

    press enter

    paste in

    opkg remove enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-fastscan

    press enter

continue through the list above with the same method

this will free up some space allowing you to install linuxsat or satvenus panel

move everything you now install with pluginskinmover

  • Good evening Master G.

Following a re-flash of the image and re-scanning the tuner, I have followed your suggestions with regard to DCC / telnet.

When inputting some of the commands like "opkg remove sambaserver" telnet screen reports "No packages removed" on others like "opkg remove mediascanner" it reports "packages removed".

After having done this, I then installed PluginSkinMover and moved the largest single plugin shown which was OpenWebif.

After having moved only this One plugin, I restarted the receiver and it again went into a boot loop.

The only difference from when it did this the first time (When I removed all of the listed plugins) was that whilst in the boot loop, the screen did not show the "We're sorry your receiver has encountered a software problem and needs to be restarted" message.

I am now once again back at the point were I have re-flashed the image, re-scanned the tuner and have some FTA viewable channels which is basically at the same point as were I was a week ago !!!.

Having said that, having had your help with this and having invested some considerable hours running up and down the stairs (Computer is in dining room / Box is in bedroom !!) trying different settings, etc in an attempt to get this image to the point were I can use it, I do not want to give up now.

I am by no means an expert on Linux and these types of issues and other than saying with some confidence that the receivers lack of built in / on board memory is the root cause of the problem, from my point of view I can only really offer guesswork as to how to overcome it and why PluginSkinMover seems to initiate a boot loop whenever it's used, in an attempt to offer ideas / suggestions and better understand the workings of these things i'd like to ask the following:

    1. What type formatting should be used on the (Kingston) 16GB USB memory stick that I am using ?

    2. Is it worth trying another / different USB memory stick ?

    3. Are there any other plugins / addons besides PluginSkinmover, for example, like FlashExpander that would run on my DM800 HD SE with this image installed ?.

    4. Is it worth installing PluginSkinMover and selecting the Internal HDD that is installed when choosing the destination location for the plugins to be moved to ?.

    5. Is there any way of setting the USB memory stick up so that any plugins / addons would automatically be installed onto the USB and therefore not need to be moved to it after installation ?.

Apologies for so many questions, your help and advice is much appreciated.

Thank you and regards, The Soulman.

  • your doing far too much messing around here soul man.. just download what you need and ftp it to your box (temp folder) or to usb and install it. sack the panel off as its taking too much room up and is not needed

    MGCamd Download

Lraizer Autobouquets E2 UK for Cable DVB C/T

Thanks Dikkidave and all who have attempted to help.

Apologies it's taken me a while to reply but I took your advice and sacked the idea of installing the panel in favour of simply installing only what I needed.

    (CCcam and MGcamd)

I have an update and continue to require the expertise of those on here that understand the Linux O/S in depth.

After deciding to forget installing the panel and just install the Two softcams that I would need, my attempts to get this image to run on my DM800 HD SE (V1) receiver have continued in the same disasterous manner.

To avoid turning this post into something containing 5000 words by going through everything I've done in the time it's taken me to reply, I'll tell you exactly where I am at this moment in time.

I reflashed the image and rescanned the tuner and had viewable FTA channels.

I manually installed MGcamd 1.35a onto the receiver and restarted the receiver which restarted without any problems.

I have used the receiver to view FTA channels for a couple of days without any problems.

Yesterday evening I restarted the receiver only for it to go into a boot loop where it shows the message, "We are really sorry. Your receiver has encountered a software problem and needs to be restarted".

After Five minutes of watching the receiver going around in this loop I removed the power supply.

I have this morning switched the receiver back on so that I could read the message again and get the path to where the crash logs are located.

I have saved the most recent crash log into a folder on my computer and have included it at the bottom of this post as an attachment in the hope that someone with the necessary knowledge can read it and perhaps suggest what is causing the receiver to behave as it is.
