You have all the reason!

The original picon does not have "HD" and the previous one had the number "1". Since there are HD and SD channels if you add the "HD" it becomes more easy to distinguish.

You don't have to ask,

any background and size you use for your other packages.

In my opinion it should be 400X240 transparent. If a bigger resolution is offered, E2 can resize the picons down with a better result than the opposite.
