I also had the same crash in Openvix but reflashed an old version before I saw this thread. Have now updated again. Is there any current way to disable toppicks? Thanks

toppicks is no more and is now kiddac essentials. Look at the first post to see how to remove top picks.
-
If you install the skin from the plugin server, the essentials are also installed automatically because they are a dependency.
Is there a difference between the ones in the upload and the ones used for build it on GitHub?

That allows me to customise the toppicks, but not to turn them off.

are you not thinking of enigma2-plugin-skincomponents-kiddac-shared-skin which is dependency in skin control file.
Also basic toppicks folder is still included in skin by default example:
usr\share\enigma2\slyk-1080-r19\toppicks\

I can see the deleted comments, so will respond to it.
As I have said before, control files that are hosted are not used by images when they build plugins. The bitbake files generate them when building the plugins/images. They work on the environment being used to build on.
The control file is only used by people not using bitbake files. If KiddaC wanted, he could add the dependencies that PLI want. Problem is the names vary depending on the PLI version for his other plugins. This will deal with the wrong posts people make about PLI missing dependencies. The list of dependencies is in the plugin.

If you are referring to deleated comments in post that I deleated that is because i had made mistake and also quoted another post when trying to reply so I just deleted my post. And made new post :)

Point is still the same, the control file is irrelevant to images that host the skins
