Cardsharing Server Setup...

  • I am just beginning my setup of a free Cardsharing server for my friends & family. I have a few questions that i would appreciate some help with because I cannot clear up these if's & but's after 2 days of going through every card sharing forum on the net I have to just face it…. I’m Stuck

    My setup now:
TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2 Quad Tuner TV Card
DVB Software with Hadu & Acamd, working like a dream using test c-lines

    My planned Setup:
    Dedicated Linux PC Server
TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2 Quad Tuner TV Card
    USB Smargo Smartcard Reader Plus
Full Paid Subscription to a certain provider

Questions (Sorry if they seem too basic, but I am very confused from reading from 20-30 different sources over the last week)

1.. For starters, can i set up a card sharing server without a Dreambox? I have seen a few guides but they almost all mention the use of a Dreambox at some stage. I know my family will need a Dreambox or similar c-line capable box to share with my card, but do I need a Dreambox to set it up?

2.. Could someone please point me in the right direction for hiding my IP Address of my local Server.

3.. Do I need to purchase a Full Subscription to set up card sharing for the full service or can I do anything with the card? I have a basic white card at the moment, can I do anything to unlock channels through that or do I need the host card to have all the channels subscribed to? I have read about updating entitlements etc, (Is this just like activating the card or is it a bit darker)?

4.. If I get my family to spend money on these cccam box’s will I get at least a few years out of them or are the big providers clamping down? I don’t expect it to last for ever but from what I can see the only solution would be for the big providers to replace all the box’s out there at the moment and surely that’s a no go.

Thanks in advance to anybody who can shed a bit of light on this for me.

yes....You don't need a Dreambox at all....I guess the people writing the guides you've read just have this as their receiver!

Hiding it from what? If you mean so nobody can find out the 192.168.xxx.xxx address then you need to setup NAT from your router...ie. request comes in to your DNS and your router points the request to your local server....having a secure listening port for your cam will ensure a more secure setup!

No...you can't 'unlock' the channels...you can of course receive entitlements from other peers but there is no hack to unlock per se! Entitlement updates are Sly checking your subscription and then refreshing your entitlements...its automatic these days if you use the likes of OScam

Its all caveat emptor I'm afraid...it could all end tomorrow!

Well Id be worried about Sly getting hold of one of my c-lines, then surely, the game would be up...

How do I receive entitlements from other peers? Is that done through cccam or is this saved to the card? Would that mean that I could have a Sly package with Movies, You could have a Sly package with Sports & we could share the Sports & Movies?

In a nutshell...your box pretends to be your peers and channels decrypt as they would on their setup!

And yes...your package example would work! Make sure your family know if there are box or internet problems they won't be able to receive the channels you share with them!

  • Yup will do, Thanks Sandman... Jeez I cant wait to set stuck into some of the tutorials here, What a site! After all my searching, Im finally home... Keep up the good work..

lol..yea theres quite a lot to read and it can be daunting but you can't break anything so trial and error is the best way to go....if you get stuck, you know where to come!

  • Just one more thing in relation to CS Server specification. Does the Server have to have a decent spec or am I ok with very basic PC. I’m looking to get a cheap workstation PC with 8GB Ram, something like a Dell Precision 390 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz for about €100-€120. Will this be fast enough to process the shares for 4-5 houses and about 2-3 box's in each house? What is the limit of c-lines per card without slowing down signal or experiencing freezing? I have seen a few test c-lines that were very poor for freezing, presumably because there were too many shares for the host to handle. What is the MAX possible c-lines with the best possible Card sharing server setup.. thanks..

There is no need for anything fancy mate, pretty much any old tower you have lying around or even an old netbook/lappy with a cracked screen will do the job, just have a look at the specs of a dm500 lol.

  • Ha, good point about the dm500, Thanks M8. I didnt know i could use a laptop, I just assumed I needed a DVBcard in the Server? I have a very high spec PC, would it be a bit too much to set up a Virtual Server within windows? I could easily Set it up with 4-8GB Ram & any size HD? I just want to get cracking on this asap and it could take a few days to get my hands on an old PC.. I wish I found this site last week and I'd have had it all done by now, lol

  • No Problem, I have a PC for viewing now, set up & working with DVB Viewer, but I also want a Dedicated card sharing server with nothing else on it. Do I not need a satellite feed going into a card sharing server? Probably not if it is only sharing the Sly card rights..

  • you are probably best to have your cardsharing server on a separate PC as you said you was looking in to anyway! - an old lappy etc - as your main PC which you are using as your HTPC with the quad tuner etc would have to be on all the time, and the server would be disrupted every time you are tweaking stuff on the PC. You need to get a card reader for your server PC and no you don't need your server to have any kind of viewing equipment or feeds - just the server software, card reader and sub card, connected to the net. You might want to consider using a dedicated linux receiver rather than a HTPC setup as well - I once used HTPCs and never looked back after getting my first E2 receiver, but each to their own!

If I take a while to respond, you can see why.....

  • You can run the x64 setup on pritty much any PC i believe the only thing i noticed about the x64 setup is that if you decide you want to go down the oscam only route, you will not be able to run oscam dvapi as iam yet to find an x64 oscam version that supports it.

  • I will follow the tutorial ubuntu but I have a question: If I use a PC server, one OMNIKEY and a card full peciso I do not really connect the cable operator in the server? Because my card will have to exchange keys with the operator and update dates and tiers etc, how will I do this? I have to remove the card and put the device from time to time?

    full peciso?
CCcam can allow EMM updates. You can pass these updates to your card through client receivers by putting the right bits in your fline to allow them
    have a read of this

As to whether this is safe or not depends on your card. Some providers use updates to turn off cards if they suspect they are being used for sharing. Other cards might be able to get updates outside their standard equipment but you may need to use another softcam such as Oscam or scam etc.

  • Really appreciate the detailed :smile:tutorial, they help me setup a family connection at different locations from east to west. I took more than 2months for a newbies like me. Thanks.

  • My planned Setup:
    Dedicated Linux PC Server
TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2 Quad Tuner TV Card
    USB Smargo Smartcard Reader Plus
Full Paid Subscription to a certain provider

I'm thinking about setting up a HTPC as a Linux c/s server with a very similar specification to the one that you planned.
Did you build the linux server after? Did you have any problems or any advice that you can share?
