Was just logged on for a quick look passing through...

I hate the potential for people to overpay based on greedy retailers so thought id reply....

There are 4 different types of HDMI cable

    1. low speed (pre hdmi 1.4 if I remember correctly when 3d capability was added to the specification

    2. low speed with Ethernet support.

    3. High speed (hdmi 1.4 and above)

    4. High speed with ethernet support.

In my opinion go for the Z'Gemma Star, my reasons are -

    1. It has come highly recommended from someone who's opinion I value, as he is a sat installer by trade so has come across most boxes at some point and says that the tuners on them are really good, better than other brands that cost a lot more even.
    2. Its Enigma 2 and its a MIPS based processor add-ons are more stable and better supported than on the SH4's.
    3. For the money you can't go wrong, there are backups available and also can be downloaded directly from OpenATV and Euro-Sat, there are also VIX images although seems they are not 100% official, which only becomes a slight issue when there are stability issues with the image and any additional extra's (skin's, cams and plugins etc).

Kingston Data Traveler they are metal cased - cheap, durable, reliable... Happy Days.

The only issue is they are very small in size, so easy msiplaced lol :) Which is why I have had several and then found them again.

My first PC had a Cyrix 686+ (they were actually the equivalent of the Intel 80586 aka Pentium, due to the fact Intel could not copyright a number)...

I Understand that the workmanship is one issue, but there are that many receivers that are similar to the Big sellers on the market, its increasingly difficult for newer participants in the hobby to distinguish between. But it must be said that some clones are a lot higher quality than others.

I understand that the forum sponsor protecting his own interest/investment,

I don't post as much as I used to but i've noticed that those with a higher level of understanding of the hobby (not just on this site), are increasingly off hand/hostile towards novice's. In my opinion there are two types of people that break the rules, those that didn't read the rules which there is no excuse for. and those that made a genuine mistake.

Thanks to all those that replied so far, and for replying without turning the thread into a flame war :) its interesting to see other peoples perspective on what is seemingly an increasingly sensitive issue.

I was reading this thread, but this is a seperate question really - Idiots guide required for cloud ibox

May I respectfully ask for others views on this merely as a matter of curiosity, at which point does a receiver become a clone, admitted some are blatant direct replica's/clones, some are less blatant than others.

Couldn't it be argued to more or less an extent, that the VU+'s are a Dream-box Clones?
    ------------

I understand that they offer an inferior version to the originals, and so forth, but where is the line drawn? The intention of this post is merely to see what others think? - If you can't reply in a mature/civil maner then don't bother...

other teams may try to imitate us but they are always forced to play catchup and always will be.

Has another team really tried to imitate you?

This isn't a very community minded remark given this forum, ViX and many others are intended to be community'sfor hobbyist to discuss and share ideas. A principle which I thought ViX clearly endeavored to work towards being one of the members of the OE Alliance.

Short version - Your post would carry the same weight, explanation and meaning with the quoted bit deleted and also make you appear more professional, as being a staff member of ViX any post you make also reflects on them.

Anyway, constructive criticism over... Time for a nice warm cuppa!

*A community is a social unit of any size that shares common values and/or goals.
    ----------------------------------------------------------

For the avoidance of any doubt, I wanted to clarify that I am massively grateful for the contribution the ViX team make to the hobby and community, as I am all the coders, skinners, testers of the other images and plugins, as its those that make it possible for rest of us.

I downloaded the updated ones, so thought I would update them here too -

Must of made some silly error or missed something... but Technodvl2, sent me a link and all is good... for now :)

Depends on your setup... Try just adding it, if that fails, you may need to do some reading on CCCam.

and rather than delete its probably best you put a # at the start of line so its interpreted as a comment and the line is ignored, easier to undo any wrong changes.

but I suspect a blank CCCam.cfg with your c: ... in will suffice.

Your post would be best placed in the CCCam section, best thing to do is, go to TSPannel in plugins, browse to the LinuxSat-Support section, if my memory serves me correctly there should be a section for cams, in there will be a CCCam for Blackhole (install that and restart), then its a case of editing CCCam.cfg (or ftping one) to var/etc (again double check this), and adding the details.

Then you should be able to set CCCam to run via the softcam menu (blue button?).

I am doing this from memory, so might not be exactly correct.

I appreciate the assistance, but like I said in my previous post I have tried that, it also seems that others who have posted on the page you have linked have experiencing the same.

its not there ive even tried to download the latest zip file version but it says dependencies missing.

I know there is the addon pack but its too much to install all at once, id rather do it myself one by one so I can decide what to use or not use as the case maybe.

Im trying to get a basic starting point on Kodi with Navi-X, Sports Devil - possibly a couple of other 3rd party addons for film, tv and sport setup.

I can see that there is guides for using the IPTV streams with XBMC using a certain add on so can probably work through that.

I added the fusion source, but the zip files show as 0 bytes and im not sure how to download them so I can install Navi-X and start to work to get a working Kodi setup.

im pretty sure the next step is obvious, if someone tell me what plugins or dependencies I need to install so Navi-X (and other simular plugin/addons), will work?

You already have an amigo Alien 2, any e2 receiver is going to take some setting (plugins and all), unless you find someone who has released a backup that meets your requirements perfectly.

Id suggest spending sometime getting used to Alien 2, then if you decide its still not you want, the knowledge of the plugins and images you have gained will help you with any alternative receiver.
