  • THE EXPLANATION HOW TO FLASH PURE2 INTO YOUR EDISION IS BELOW, IN POST NO. 12!

We have 2 different files: RECOVERY with its own procedure and USB file, with its own procedure(s).

    ==============================THIS IS OLDER INFO===================================

To install into first of four partitions, which Edision OS mio 4K has natively, one should:

    -download PurE2 image

-unzip it on a USB memory stick formatted in FAT32

-edit the noforce file name into force and

-plug it into Edision OS mio 4K, which is unplugged from the electricity

-hold POWER button and plug the Edision back into electricity

-you will see ascending numbers on LCD... - let go of the POWER button

-"restore image" will be shown on TV screen: image will be flashed and then automatically the box will reboot

-take the USB stick out of the USB port quickly at that point (when all is black)

-upon booting the current PurE2 v. 6.2 has a minor flaw:

    180886eba2d35394f3410.jpg

-to remedy this FFmpeg little problem (easily) one should start PuTTY on one's PC, connect with your Edision using "root" for username (don't use the "" signs) and "pure2" for password and issue the following 2 Telnet commands:

    Code
    opkg update

    opkg install ffmpeg

After each command hit the ENTER button on your keyboard and wait a bit...

Then, when it's all done, all should be well and FFMpeg will show, currently at 4.1.3.

Now, proceed as per usual, please... :)

Much more info in PurE2 section... ;)

  • I've been told that FFmpeg package is not put into PurE2 by default, as it is functioning really well without it.

However, if one needs it, the easiest way to install it is by going to:

MENU > pManager > Most popular plugins to install > FFmpeg...

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-incurred immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's own understanding without the guidance of another. ===============TO INSTALL INTO PARTITIONS 2 - 4, when one already has an image in partition 1==============

In OpenATV I did not see a possibility to install PurE2 into another partition, which is poor...

    In PurE2 it's like this:

    MENU >Setup > Software Management > Flash online/local >

yellow button to choose which partition to use for flashing >

blue button to choose whee from to flash (online or loacal/USB media which contains an image) >

    flash...

    ======================================WHEN YOU ARE DONE=======================================

MENU > pManager > Plugins > Download most used plugins > install FFMpeg, NTFS support and exFAT, too - and restart.

Go to MENU > Plugins > green button > SystemPlugins > ServiceApp > Restart.

Go to MENU > Setup > System > ServiceApp > Enigma 2 playback system = serviceapp

    Also: Player = exteplayer3

    Restart E2.

If you use IPTV channels then "difficult" ones should work. If not, put it back to "Original in ServiceApp.

I recommend installing OpenVPN plugin from Network, too!

    MENU > pManager > Cam Manager > Install CamD > ...

    Good luck!

  • One more little coup for PurE2 Team - well done Delfi!!!

A simple SW update in PurE2 v. 6.3 is OK, a new build for 6.4 is running at the moment....

(Not to interpret it, I shall simply C & P the maestro's explanation...)

    Says Delfi/tromo:

    "Added CPU control for OSmio4k/plus.

    MENU→System→CPU Control

    Why:

These boxes are by default setup to run at MAX speed all the time, which is fine and ok, especially for benchmarks. It is somewhat similar to running your car at max revs or a PC/laptop in souped up/game mode. It is not necessarily a bad thing, especially on low power ARM boxes, but linux kernel is pretty clever about demands set upon SoC/CPU, so why not use it.

Benefits are not earth shattering, but can make one feel a bit better; lower temp, voltage, longer life, decent thing to do, etc... Electricity bill might be reduced by an Euro or two per annum, but I hope that is not the point :)

    What and How:

MAX CPU frequency is the top range (normally, non overclocked) available on your box.

MIN CPU frequency is the bottom range available on your box.

Scaling governor determines what happens and how between the above ranges.

Here is a very **brief** modus operandi of the governors:

performance -- Run the CPU at the maximum frequency.

powersave -- Run the CPU at the minimum frequency.

userspace -- Run the CPU at user specified frequencies.

ondemand -- Scales the frequency dynamically according to current load. Jumps to the highest frequency and then possibly back off as the idle time increases.

conservative -- Scales the frequency dynamically according to current load. Scales the frequency more gradually than ondemand.

By default, OSmios4K run all the time @1.5GHz, which is really not needed in 95% of the tasks, including DVB-S/T/C operation, as well as with ‘normal’ streams watching --> works well @300MHz

TEST option shows changes in live data, but note that temperature is based on some sensor on the SoC, not really in the CPU itself (the difference is usually quite larger), voltage is based on recent averages, etc.

    9bcac29820b9863b4ca18.jpg

    In short, without tech bla-bla:

Set Scaling governor to **conservative** or **ondemand** and be happy.

If running your box in really hot environment, one might consider lowering MAX CPU frequency.

Funny thing is that OSmio4Ks run decently in powersave mode (300MHz) as well, except that E2 restart takes more time, streaming channel to other boxes might be a bit of pain…

HiSilicon boxes already have this fine tune option, but it will be updated soon with more stuff."

    Enjoy!:beer1:

  • A clarification re. RECOVERY and USB files to flash your Edision with

Use recovery image from here http://www.pur-e2.club/OU/imag…dir=6.5/edision/Recovery/

    if there is

-an important update to those files

-problem with aligning various images in different partitions.

Recovery image will repartition the flash, it will erase everything on it and you must start from scratch.

It is used very rarely and sparingly, if one really must do it...

In all other cases one just flashes a USB image into a partition from here:

    http://www.pur-e2.club/OU/images/index.php?dir=6.5/edision/

    either by

-flashing via a USB stick (download the image onto your PC and put it into USB stick, i.e. offline) or

-flash online, directly from the net (you need USB stick or HDD/SSD attached to the box, then).

This is easy and better, as you have 4 partitions to play with. Just flash another version of PurE2 into the next partition.

When you know all is functioning well, you can delete the older image, from within PurE2.

Read more about it here: Flash your Zgemma H7x using RECOVERY and/or USB files

Also, in some detail, here: H7S MultiBoot "How To" - installing multiple images in H7S's internal flash!

Different box but the principle is the same....

PurE2 v. 6.5 has another update: "OSMio 4K* - experimental HW V4L2 internal player for Kodi."

  • Re. the aforementioned WiFi AP mode plugin Delfi made... From what little I know, he put quite a bit of his time into it - hence done with some pride... ;) With a bit of delay but hey, better now than never.... :) Here is Delfi's text, since he is the author and I haven't yet tried it...

Sooo.... say, you have a LAN cable drawn all the way to your STB but you could do with a further extension to your home network, in a wireless manner, to the parts of the house your modem does not cover well with its WiFi capabilities, it's just too far, the walls are just too thick etc. So, use this app, switch it on and you may have a really good WiFi connection in your loft or in your garden, in a bath-tub etc. :)

    WiFi AP

    Acces Point / Hotspot

Makes most sense on boxes with built in WiFi (osmio4k*, sf8008, ustsym4k, viper4k, etc..)

Works on most of other boxes with added USB WiFi adapter (Zgemma H7, etc)

Low RAM impact and CPU strain.

In the feeds: MENU--> PurE2 plugins --> Setup WiFi AP (enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-wifiap)

Preset Value should work in most cases, if the adapter/wifi device is 5GHz capable or can function in a best mode possible (a very rough guess, with wifi, permutations and surprises are... many), that is a preferred mode.

Due to almost countless combinations of interaction between the kernel and wifi drivers, it is possible to setup non working stuff in "Advanced" mode, so... beware. This is still, sort of beta stuff.

    ==========================================================

    Boring Tech notes:

Should work on most boxes like DMMs, VUs, that have some features in the kernel enabled or do not practice some protection via Ethernet iface.

Some USB adapters on some kernels cannot work in AP/hotspot mode. For example Mediatek mt7601u driver does not work, but on a different/older kernel mt7601uSTA might be ok. Similar situation is with once popular Alfa AWUS036H long range based on 8187B wifi chipset. Commercial AP devices and routers usually have custom drivers that work in a one of 2-3 dedicated modes. Sadly, miracles can not happen all the time.

Did not check old rt73, they could make problems as well, besides they need so much power that your PS might not be happy.

    ===========================================================

EDIT: just found old rt73 b+g Asus USB wifi stick lying in the dust, and it works ok on sf8008 as a 2nd WiFi adapter.

New rtl8812AU and similar AC1200 stuff seems to work very nice (again, on some kernels).

In the future release it ***might*** be possible to use active wifi adapter both as a client and an AP, but, again, not many drivers are capable of this. Therefore, as it is, it makes sense for users that have a box connected to a wire and might need an additional AP.

Due to some tech drama, this is not available for SH4 boxes, but we''ll try to solve it if possible.

Some older chipsets like rtl8182eu used in many boxes (well, depending on the HW revision), might support "n" mode in 5 GHz band. Whether it works in your individual case is, sadly a question of luck. 5 GHz band is probably a better choice due to 2.4 band congestion and speed, but, to really work decently, it needs a clear path between a client and AP, or, at least, multi antennae capability between both, the AP (your box) and client (your phone or laptop).

On the other hand, 2.4 GHz band is usually better with penetration thru obstacles like walls, etc.

    ============================================================

Really boring stuff about the channel choice for your AP:

Some Realtek (and other) devices are nice to suggest a best channel available. This sounds great, but actually it is not really, as these wild guess suggestions are based (usually) only on 20MHz bandwidth, or in the best case 40MHz, alas in some rather lazy mode. If one is curious, a check can be made from telnet:

    Code
    cat /proc/net/rtl8192eu/wlan0/best_channel

and, of course, adjust as per your device.

Usually it makes a senseless suggestion, so --> channel choice is up to you. There are decent apps for smartphones (wifi scanners) that might help you with the right choice.

    As always YMMW.

Have fun and may the wifi force be with you.

  • I have a question, I had the 12hr time options. I had it set on the 12hr clock mode. Now, the options are gone. I’m not sure what I would have done, to have lost the options. Would you have any idea what I need to download to get the options back? I’m not sure if this question is appropriate for this section. But, I figured I’d see if anyone has any idea.

  • Ok. Thank You. If I remember correctly, under the time settings, there were two more options there before. One being the 12/24 hr option.
the other option, I don’t remember what it was.
