Has he checked the port is open?
saying that, he should still be able to act as client only.
Can he not connect to anyone, even as a client?
-
Yeah mate tried 3 diff ones. he cant connect to any of them but i tried his box and its working away in my house. I didnt think you need a port open as a client i thought it was plug and play.
-
Have you checked that the stb is connecting to the internet?
May be a problem with the ethernet lead, or router etc

Correct, port doesnt need to be open if you are only a client.
In network settings check if DHCP is turned on.
Try testing whether the DM500 has connection to the internet, use DCC E1 to search the network to make sure the router has assigned an ip address.

I would have thought DHCP is on as it works at another property.

Has the box been assigned an IP address?

yeah got ip also logged in to him via team viewer and everything on router is ok and on his box. the only other thing i can think of is it must be the dish
