  • You need to purchase separate tuner inbuilt fbc tuners cannot do blindscan.

  • Are These FBC tuners cheaper than say tuners previously fitted on a vu model?

    Hence why are used

  • If would not think they are cheaper.

  • When ever i mention that my signal levels are lower than on other models i seem to get shot down in flames. I am told its just an algorithm and to take no notice, but if you have been working with receivers for years you tend to know when you are getting a decent signal or not.

The older Quad4K is the same, around 12 - 15% lower signal displayed than I see on Vu+ Ultimo4K.

But the Quad4K uses the same tuners as the Ultimo4K (therefore the same values are used for the tuners), which means it's just the way the drivers display the info on the screen.

This is exactly the figures i had worked out. I've never said the tuners are weaker just the diplayed signal levels are much lower. It just seems an odd quirk, and if there was an easy fix hopefully they can do it.

That will never be fixed, it was like that many many years ago when i last used a giga. I don't get why it is so hard to adjust an algorithm if that is all it is.

How are you finding it in general now that you have had it a while ? Any other issues ??

I find the box to be pretty good. Its not as fast as i guess the vu duo 4k se would have been but its pretty zippy and stable. I managed to get a lot of the uk sd channels clearing the other day on the openatv 7.5.1. Its more stable watching channels like supersports 1-4 than my qviart dual. using a euroline.

The FBC tuner module is soldered on the motherboard. You cannot change it. Unless you want to blind scan, it is fine.

Again having fixed tuners compared to plug & play say on vu duo

Is it to keep price down or just a choice of manufacturer

I still do not understand the problem two different manufacturers one has inbuilt and choice of another plugin tuner, other can give you choice of all tuners even if one is built in and other is not they are the same fbc tuners manufactured from same company.

Personally when I had choice between gigablue uhd quad 4k and the vu duo 4k se i went for the gigablue fair enough not a quad core and less memory but I thought to much of a price difference.

The Solo 4K has the same configuration. FBC soldered and a legacy tuner socket. The other Gigablue receivers that support FBC are also the same.

Most importantly, I don't think Gigablue do FBC cable tuners, so it doesn't make sense for them to have an FBC socket.

Some of the zgemmas are same, instead of sockets, they are soldered on.

Anyway, it is what the manufacturer decided.

  • urie did you box ship? Thought they will all shipping on the 27th.

Still waiting mate hopefully tommorow , but do not know if you seen my last post email from impex on the 23rd of this month:
