  • Coming from this GigaBlue 800seplus : OpenPLi 7.2Star 20200526 1.17.0.1 thread, I promised to post my experiences with the OpenPli 8x with my new UHD Trio 4K deco here.

I own three other GB 800SE+ deco's each being flashing with the 7.3Star Image and using a rather unknown Copper-FHD skin.

I wanted to buy another 800UE+ deco but that sale was cancelled because of very uninterested seller. Since I know there's a lot of info on this forum I went looking for an alternative second hand one that could work with the OpenPli (and other) images.

I found the 4K deco's are better supported today and luckily one was available second hand for little more than I spent on the cancelled one.

That is the UHD Trio 4K. It came in near new state with remote and psu and even the original box and manual.

This one had OpenSpa 8.3 and the original factory image with multiboot.

I had already a long list of images so no need to make a backup.

The OpenPli 8.x Star Image is an emmc image which means I had to erase everything for this to work. The whole flashing procedure being a little different from what I was used to on the 800SE+ deco's, but I got the hang of it quickly.

This image comes with a I think it was called grey-brushed skin, something like that, which doesn't work. It has multiple py errors that provoke the dreaded green screen.

For those who try a skin causing that, the easy way to get out of the problem is not reinstalling, just use ftp to get on the box,

go to /usr/shared/enigma2 and delete the folder where the failing skin is located.

Next restart enigma2 and you'll have a working default skin again.

So I installed my old Copper-FHD skin and it worked. I only needed to adjust some py converter functions for things like satellite names etc.

Since the official OpenPli site also provides multiboot images, I will be trying some of those in the coming days and will post back here.

  • After a long day of doing configs and the likes I found the cccaminfo 1.6 didn't work on my deco. I searched for every possible way to get the 1.4 version which does work on my other deco. No luck.

So having multiboot is great to try another image which in this case was the official OpenPli 7.3. This one has the cccaminfo 1.4 and after installing and reconfiguring everything it did work without a glitch.

I had planned on trying the OpenPli 9.0 version but I've read about certain py function that were removed due to the change to python 3. I doubt very much if it will work so I won't try it for the time being. Maybe I'll try another image like openhdf or openvix just for fun but for now my working version will be the OpenPli 7.3 being the one that works best.
