Sources for satellite info?

  • Are there any sources for satellite data, like lyngsat, preferably in json?

I'm mainly interested in the channel naming they use and want to apply those names in my setup.

For example, the German “Comedy Central” channel is labelled as “Comedy Central Deutschland”.

  • Hi. I'm in the US. I use tvrosat.com for my charts and channel naming. They also have the picon with the listings.
Don't know about an automated or json method. I've an extensive picons folder on my pc that synchronizes with E-Channelizer.
Usually I will just name the channel what it is in the chart. Of course you could also use a cable TV guide.
If the channel is listed Comedy Central Deutschland. Then it's probably what is should be named. Of course you're free to name it Comedy Central DL and name the picon accordingly.
Somebody may offer you a lamedb folder and picons folder that they have put extensive time into and, well, there you go.
Open it in your channel editor. Make sure the settings point to the correct picons list. Write it to the receiver. Ba-da-bing!

  • That's not really what I am after, but thanks.

I don't use e2, but I have also been looking at lamedb files as a possible source for renaming my channels.

This one seems like it renames channels how I like (adding regional info) and I will use it for the time being.

  • Is there a better lamedb than the one I posted?

I noticed some errors in it.

I also noticed some errors on lyngsat.

Flysat seems the most up to date.

For example, the channel Deluxe Rock on 19.2E.

On Lyngsat the SID is, 10553.

On Flysat it is 10606, which is correct.

  • I'm not sure why you need to know my setup?

    I use TVHeadend.

To be clear, I have no issue getting the service names OTA… It's just I don't like the service names.

For example, instead of “SkySpMainEv”, I'd prefer “Sky Sports Main Event”.

Instead of 50 different “Comedy Central” channels, I'd like them to be easily identifiable by region, e.g. “Comedy Central Hungary”.

The lamedb I linked to does this, but it's not without its errors.

  • I'm out. Simple question. From cheap chinaboxes to commercial rack mounts. Narrowing down what you're using shouldn't be a NSA secret.
If you don't like the service names then change them. That's what the intended-for-reception-by cable operators will do. They do have the black boxes to do the job. Good luck with your venture, Mr. Bond

  • Maybe I should have explained.

The reason my setup shouldn't matter is that I am capable of scripting a solution.

For example, I have scripted a solution that allows me to use the names from an e2 lamedb in TVH.

All I am after is a good source of data.
