The best, most popular and fastest has always been and will be OpenPLi.

If OpenPLi no longer supports old devices, it is only because the manufacturer has also ended hardware support (driver development + their bug fixes - for newer Linux kernels). Despite this, OpenPLi has been trying to support some old set-top box devices for a very long time, even if support from the set-top box manufacturer has already ended.

Userbouquets can be downloaded pre-created from the internet... so-called "settings"... although this name is incorrect, it is often used for userbouquets (channel lists).

I don't know your provider and your satellite, so I can't advise. But if you look, you will find it on the internet.

You can edit channels using a PC, if the set-top box is connected to the same LAN network as your PC. You can use the DreamboxEdit tool for this purpose. I recommend first performing a full scan of all available stations. Then, using DreamboxEdit, you can create a new userbouquet with your own name, and insert the necessary channels into it. You can download icons / logos for TV channels, for example, using the ChocholousekPicons plugin (you must first download it from the Internet and install it on the set-top box).

There is also a plugin Fast Scan for many providers and for many satellites. If installed, it will appear in MENU > channel tuning. Alternatively, it will appear in the plugins MENU. This plugin should be part of OpenPLi and if not, it should be possible to install it from the feed server (in the plugin list). This Fast Scan always updates or adjusts its own userbouquet (channel list) according to the current channels. It is a very fast tuning. The disadvantage is that the channel arrangement is already preset (if you want to change it, you have to create your own userbouquet list and arrange your channels there - for example with the help of DreamboxEdit, a PC application).

Try to find in Menu which image and version is installed. Can you connect with some FTP tool and attach some screenshots.

Sim2 released only 2013 drivers for that box, there is no newer ones for sure than the ones you already have in your box/image. Concerning the image OpenPLi, there is few versions, the 4.0 (official) and then no official ones 5.0, 6.0, 7.x and 8.x.

You can find out the Enigma2 version in many ways. One of them is to log in to OpenWebif (Web-GUI for enigma2, operating as an open source project for many years). Simply find out the IP address of your set top box in the information via MENU. And then in the web browser on your PC, enter this IP address as an http address. OpenWebif will open and there you will also find information about the image (in the left frame, somewhere at the bottom). You should also be able to get information about Enigma2 directly via MENU using RCU. But I prefer to use OpenWebif for this purpose :-D.

Try to find your sat provider in the FastScan. But I doubt that South Asia will be included there. I really don't know.

I don't know your country at all in terms of Linux satellite receivers. So I probably can't give you much advice.

Some decoding DVB systems with an access card may not work - I mean via SoftwareCAMs. In that case, you need to use not just the card, but the entire CI+ module in which the card is already inserted (HardwareCAM).

You will find out the version just logging into the box with telnet (it will give you the version),

I don't know if OpenPLi has somehow changed the default password... but it should be blank (just press ENTER on the PC keyboard in terminal connection). The login name is always the same and it is: root . Alternatively, try using: root as the password if ENTER doesn't work (i.e. if the blank password doesn't work).

Regarding OpenWebif, try checking in the MENU GUI, using RCU, whether this OpenWebif is enabled and active. It should be somewhere in the MENU under networks or somewhere under network services.

However, if you connect with SSH protocol, then a password is strictly required for data encryption and you will not be able to log in without a password.

Therefore, use Telnet protocol and the "ENTER" key for a blank password will work.

If you want, you can change your password after successful login (don't forget the new password!) with the command: passwd

Unfortunately, PuTTY displays the SSH vs Telnet protocol selection a bit confusingly - see my screenshot for an explanation:

Try to run / install the Password RESET plugin (IPK package) from the USB storage device. If it is not forbidden to run apps or install from a USB storage devices. Which is probably not forbidden.

I quickly searched, and found this: Enigma2 Reset Password Plugin When you run the plugin, use only the YELLOW button to reset the password. Do not use the backup, because the plugin is intended for another set-top box.

But there was also a pure password reset... a plugin for this purpose. I don't remember the name of the plugin. You need to look it up on the internet.
